CeX Return Policy: 2-Day Store Returns, Online Refunds and Warranty
CeX’s UK return policy depends on where you bought and why: unwanted store purchases can come back within 2 days for vouchers, at management’s discretion after testing. Unwanted online orders need notice within 14 days of delivery, then return within a further 14 days. Faults have 30-day remedies and a five-year warranty with exclusions.
Key facts
- Store goodwill returns require proof of purchase and offer vouchers within 2 days, at management’s discretion after testing.
- Online buyers can notify within 14 days of delivery, then return within 14 more; direct store returns within 14 days need no advance notice.
- Unwanted return postage is disputed between CeX’s help pages: confirm the cost before using a label.
- Faults have separate 30-day remedies and a five-year warranty, introduced on 1 November 2024, with exclusions for consumables and physical, liquid or rooting/jailbreak damage.
- CeX’s Christmas Updates help category showed no 2026 return extension when checked on 28 October 2026.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to CeX?
CeX allows 2 days for unwanted store purchases; online buyers normally notify within 14 days of delivery and return within a further 14 days. Faults follow separate 30-day and warranty rules; first identify how you bought.
CeX store purchases: the 2-day goodwill return
CeX’s store goodwill policy offers vouchers within 2 days of purchase, subject to management discretion and testing. Bring proof of purchase and the item in the same condition; any CeX store can handle an eligible return.
CeX does not explain day counting, hourly cut-offs or closure allowances. Go back the next day rather than assuming an exact 48-hour deadline. GOV.UK confirms there is no general statutory change-of-mind refund for purchases made in person.
Online orders: notify within 14 days, then 14 more
CeX’s online policy requires notification within 14 days of delivery, followed by a further 14 days to return by post or to a store. Alternatively, take the unwanted order to any CeX store within 14 days of delivery without notifying first.
Example: Assuming an eligible online item and notice within the delivery-based window, the second 14-day period begins when you notify CeX. It does not automatically start when the first period ends.
Include all accessories and preserve as-sold condition. CeX does not specify whether its postal deadline means dispatch, scan or arrival: post early and retain proof. Separately, the Consumer Contracts Regulations normally require sending back or handing over within 14 days after cancellation notice. Shop-like inspection is allowed; excessive handling can reduce a statutory refund. For a console or games purchase comparison, see the Argos return policy.
Can you cancel a CeX order before it’s dispatched?
Contact CeX as soon as possible through the Contact Us form named on its cancellation page, using the email address attached to your account. CeX cannot stop an order once it has been dispatched. If it has already shipped, use the online cancellation process above.
Does Click & Collect follow the store or online rules?
CeX’s Click & Collect FAQ points to online return instructions but publishes no separate return-clock start or duration. Treat collection as the start of a 14-day clock to be safe, and ask CeX if unsure; this is precautionary advice, not a confirmed CeX deadline.
An account is required to buy online, and Click & Collect needs online membership. The two-day period for collecting an order is not a return window.
Is there a CeX Christmas return extension for 2026?
CeX’s Christmas Updates category contained no 2026 returns-extension notice when checked on 28 October 2026. Use the standard windows and check that category before relying on extra time for a gift. No seasonal purchase range, return deadline or exclusions are published there.
Will CeX Give You Cash or Vouchers?
CeX gives vouchers for accepted store goodwill returns. For verified faults, its store policy offers a refund to the original payment method, repair, replacement or equal-value exchange; a refund therefore need not mean cash.
A refund reached under the post-30-day warranty process also goes to original payment. CeX’s accessible help does not publish the refund destination for unwanted online goods or mixed voucher/card allocation: ask before relying on a particular split. Separately, cancellation law requires original-payment reimbursement unless expressly agreed otherwise, without a reimbursement fee.
Exchanges and replacements at CeX
CeX’s store fault remedies include equal-value exchange. For a faulty postal return, state whether you want replacement or refund; CeX says refund is the default without a preference, subject to assessment and later warranty rules.
CeX publishes no unwanted direct-exchange procedure, stock guarantee, price-difference rule or exchange fee. A store voucher is not a right to swap an unwanted item directly.
Does CeX Charge for Return Postage?
CeX’s unwanted-order page says customers pay to return unwanted goods. CeX’s return-instructions page words it differently: it describes free Royal Mail collection and Freepost services without saying they exclude unwanted orders.
Budget to pay for a change-of-mind parcel, or take it to any CeX store within 14 days of delivery to avoid posting. Ask through Submit a ticket, under General/Order Queries, before relying on a prepaid label.
CeX’s return pages do not list a restocking fee or a store/per-parcel fee schedule. That does not establish that every return costs nothing. Under cancellation law, return costs usually fall on the consumer unless the trader agrees to pay or fails required disclosure; fault-rejection law places reasonable postal return costs on the trader.
Original delivery charges and the six-month rule
CeX refunds the original individual delivery charges on eligible unwanted online refunds. Its postage-refund page says the shipping fee is refunded on unwanted returns and on returns in the first six months, but not on returns after six months.
For orders paid wholly by voucher, shipping comes back as a separate voucher. Refunding outbound delivery does not settle the cost of sending goods back, particularly a higher-value parcel.
Insurance on higher-value parcels
CeX’s postal instructions describe £150 cover on its Royal Mail routes and recommend higher cover for higher-value orders. CeX also disclaims responsibility for loss or damage in transit; that is CeX’s statement, not a conclusion about legal liability.
Example: Assuming a £300 parcel sent with only the described £150 cover, the gap against its value is £150. This is cover arithmetic, not a predicted claim payout.
CeX says higher-value insured postage, such as Special Delivery, can be reimbursed by cheque or Faster Payments bank transfer, excluding unwanted items. No reimbursement cap is published; confirm arrangements before choosing the postal route.
How to Return a CeX Order
CeX offers store returns, Royal Mail drop-off/collection and self-arranged postage. Identify the order, include the return reason and keep postage evidence; first resolve any unwanted-return label cost with CeX. If your return tracking hasn’t updated within 48 hours, contact CeX through Submit a ticket.
At any CeX store
- Find a branch using the official store locator.
- Bring proof of purchase; for an online order, bring the invoice.
- Explain whether the item is unwanted or faulty and expect testing before a decision.
Unwanted online orders can come straight to a store within 14 days of delivery, no notice needed; CeX’s instructions still apply eligibility checks.
Royal Mail Tracked 48 Freepost
CeX describes this service for mainland UK in its return instructions. Follow the linked Royal Mail label route, print the label or present the emailed QR code at a participating Post Office, and retain proof of postage. Write the order number on the outside of the parcel as well as inside it.
The label page returned an error when checked on 28 October 2026, so its contents and eligibility are not confirmed here. If it fails, use CeX’s contact form. Confirm unwanted-return costs before using this or collection.
Royal Mail home collection
Follow CeX’s collection instructions: create the returning-to-CeX label first, then book Royal Mail collection. Use the WeSell returns route, rather than WeBuy, which is for selling goods to CeX. Do not alter the label; self-arranged postage uses the address below.
Posting it yourself
Include the order number and reason inside the parcel. CeX’s postal return address is:
CeX Returns Order #[order number]
Unit A, Greycaine House
21 Greycaine Road
Watford WD24 7GP
Replace the bracketed instruction with your order number. Consider insured postage for a higher-value item and keep proof of postage.
Can You Return to CeX Without a Receipt?
CeX requires proof of purchase for all store returns. Its accessible help publishes no receipt or membership lookup, gift-receipt procedure, ID-only return or no-proof voucher option. Keep your receipt or invoice; postal online returns need the order number and reason.
Separately, GOV.UK says legal proof can include a bank statement or packaging that establishes the purchase. This is evidence for a statutory claim, not a verified CeX lookup facility. Proof alone does not remove product restrictions.
What Can’t You Return to CeX?
CeX’s store policy and unwanted online policy name these restrictions:
- New items such as CeX Basics and SIM cards are excluded from store goodwill returns.
- Items with “(s)” in their name and titles exclusively for online play are restricted from unwanted returns.
- Unwanted online goods must include all accessories and remain in as-sold condition.
Game buyers comparing restrictions elsewhere can read the Smyths Toys return policy.
CeX publishes no additional general box, tag, sale-item, opened/used or hygiene rules in the accessible returns text: return everything supplied. Separately, GOV.UK lists cancellation exceptions for unsealed recordings/software and opened sealed hygiene goods. A pre-owned disc is not automatically newly unsealed software. Fault remedies require a separate assessment.
Faulty CeX Items in the First 30 Days
CeX’s store policy offers refund to original payment, repair, replacement or equal-value exchange for verified faults not caused by the customer, with proof required. Its online fault page says faults within 30 days “of purchase” can be tested and refunded in store or returned by post. State your requested remedy inside a postal parcel.
The law sets its own clock: Consumer Rights Act section 22 generally counts 30 days from the day after delivery, ownership transfer and any required installation have all occurred, rather than purchase. A retailer’s policy cannot shorten that right. Report promptly, ideally within 30 days of purchase to meet both readings; ask CeX about your order and seek Citizens Advice help if needed.
For statutory rejection, clearly notify CeX that you reject the faulty goods. Section 20 guidance places reasonable postal return costs on the trader and requires a refund without undue delay, within 14 days of agreement that you are entitled. Delivered damage needs evidence before disposal.
What if your CeX order arrived damaged or wrong?
CeX asks customers to report damage or a wrong item promptly through its contact form.
- Submit the issue via Submit a ticket.
- Retain the item and packaging; for damage, supply photographic or physical evidence.
- For damage, follow courier-specific instructions. For a wrong item, follow online returns or take the order to a store.
A fault developing later may instead enter the warranty process.
How Does the CeX Five-Year Warranty Work?
CeX’s five-year warranty is automatic and costs nothing extra for eligible purchases. It began on 1 November 2024; eligible purchases between 1 November 2022 and 1 November 2024 also qualify automatically.
Consumables are excluded. CeX’s warranty FAQ excludes clothing; its store and faulty-online pages describe coverage as everything except consumables. Do not count on five-year cover for clothing or wearables sold as apparel: confirm with CeX and use applicable 30-day remedies or statutory rights.
CeX also excludes physical/liquid damage and rooting/jailbreak damage. Removable-battery faults are not covered beyond 30 days; third-party repairs void its warranty.
After 30 days, CeX first attempts repair or replacement; if neither works, it refunds to original payment. Claims can go to any CeX store; online and Click & Collect orders can also be returned by post. If you bought in a shop and can’t reach a store, ask CeX before posting it. Statutory rights continue separately. If you are weighing pre-owned tech from CeX against new electronics, compare the Currys returns policy.
What is a CeX warranty refund worth after six months?
CeX’s warranty refund rule uses the original price if the item comes back within six months of purchase; if it comes back after six months, the refund is the lower of the original price and CeX’s current sales price, once the refund remedy is reached.
Example: Assume a covered fault, an item returned more than six months after purchase, repair or replacement unavailable, an original price of £250 and a current CeX price of £180. The warranty refund is £180. CeX does not refund original shipping after six months. This warranty valuation is not a cap on a statutory claim.
CeX Refunds: How Long Do They Take?
CeX does not publish testing, refund-issue or bank/provider posting times in its accessible help. A return deadline is not a payment-speed promise.
| Stage | Store goodwill | Online unwanted | Faulty/warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return window | Within 2 days of purchase | Notify within 14 days of delivery; return within 14 more | CeX: 30 days of purchase, then five-year warranty; exclusions apply |
| CeX testing and refund issue | Testing; time: Not published | Checks; time: Not published | Fault assessment; time: Not published |
| Bank/card/voucher posting | Not published | Not published | Not published |
CeX tests and checks returned goods; unverified or uncovered postal returns go back to the registered address.
Legal deadlines: Cancellation refunds are due without undue delay, no later than 14 days after receipt of goods or earlier evidence of sending. If the trader offered collection, the usual trigger is cancellation notice. Fault-rejection refunds are due within 14 days of agreement of entitlement. These are statutory limits, not CeX service estimates or bank-posting times.
CeX’s Klarna help publishes no return-allocation or payment-pause process; see the Klarna question in the FAQ.
Your UK Consumer Rights vs CeX’s Own Policy
| Topic | CeX policy | UK law |
|---|---|---|
| Unwanted store goods | Two-day discretionary vouchers | No general change-of-mind right |
| Online cancellation | Delivery-based 14 + 14 | Possession-based notice; then send/hand back |
| Refund deadline | Unpublished | Statutory triggers apply |
| Fault rejection | Online: purchase-based | Delivery conditions govern |
| After six months | Warranty valuation | Statutory rights remain |
| Second-hand goods | Warranty exclusions | Fault rights remain |
GOV.UK explains the six-month fault presumption and rights beyond warranty expiry; not every failure qualifies. Citizens Advice distinguishes faults from wear and misuse. Its England page links other UK nations’ advice.
CeX’s policy does not guarantee unwanted cash refunds in store, free unwanted-return postage, a refund speed or clothing warranty coverage. The terms text could not be read and the label portal was unverified; see how StoreReturners checks policies for the evidence approach.
CeX Return Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money
The CeX return policy requires matching both the purchase channel and reason:
- Waiting beyond 2 days on an unwanted store purchase: the online cancellation window does not apply.
- Expecting cash for store goodwill: accepted returns give vouchers after testing, at management’s discretion.
- Using a “free” label without checking: unwanted-postage wording conflicts; ask CeX first.
- Posting without timely cancellation notice: notify within 14 days of delivery; the no-notice option is a direct store return within that window.
- Using a third-party repairer: CeX says this voids its warranty.
- Underinsuring a valuable parcel: compare its value with CeX’s stated £150 cover before sending.
FAQ
Do I have to return a CeX item to the store I bought it from?
No. CeX allows eligible store returns and warranty claims at any CeX store. An unwanted online order can also go straight to any branch within 14 days of delivery without advance notice. Bring proof of purchase or the online invoice; the item’s eligibility still matters.
Can I test a graphics card and send it back if it doesn’t suit my PC?
CeX gives no product-specific approval here. Store purchases depend on two-day goodwill, at management’s discretion after testing. Online cancellation requires timely notice within 14 days of delivery, accessories and as-sold condition. Statutory inspection permits shop-like handling; it does not establish an unrestricted home trial.
Does a CeX membership give me longer returns?
CeX publishes no membership return extension or fee waiver. Exchange and Full Membership concern selling to CeX, rather than extra purchase-return rights. An account is needed to buy online, and Click & Collect requires online membership. Keep purchase evidence instead of relying on membership as a return benefit.
Will my Klarna payments pause while CeX checks a return?
CeX’s payment help does not publish a payment-pause procedure, refund allocation or instalment-adjustment timing. Contact Klarna and CeX about the order before assuming payments have stopped. CeX’s refund inspection and a payment provider’s account adjustments are separate stages; neither has a verified processing time in the accessible help pages.
Do I need the original box to return to CeX?
CeX requires accessories and as-sold condition for unwanted online goods, but the accessible returns pages do not publish a separate original-box requirement. Return everything supplied and preserve the packaging if your delivery arrived damaged. A missing-box situation should be confirmed with CeX rather than treated as automatically accepted or refused.
