Halfords Returns Policy: 30 Days, Bikes, Collections and Refunds
The Halfords returns policy gives most unused goods bought directly from Halfords in the UK 30 days, with original packaging and proof; online terms use 28 days from receipt to cancel. Refurbished goods have 14 days; e-scooters go to stores only. Change-of-mind postage and collections cost you; Halfords’ returns page says store refunds are triggered immediately.
Key facts
- Halfords’ returns page gives 30 days for most unused goods; online sale terms use 28 days from receipt to cancel.
- General proof includes a receipt, confirmation email, e-receipt, order number or confirmation text. Five tech brands require a till receipt or e-receipt.
- Refurbished goods have 14 days; used bikes have a separate 14-day route. E-scooters and hazardous goods go to stores only.
- The returns page quotes £40 large-item collection and £15 bike collection; other official documents word the charge differently.

This guide covers goods bought directly from Halfords in UK stores, garages, online and by phone. Approved Partner sales, Halfords Ireland and service bookings, including MOTs, are outside its scope. Browse more UK store guides for other retailers.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Halfords?
30 days is the main returns page period. The online/telephone sale terms, section 10 word it differently: 28 days after receipt to cancel, then 14 to return; the linked printable slip also says 28 days. For online or phone orders, send Halfords a clear cancellation message through customer support within 28 days of receiving the goods (for split deliveries, the last item) and keep a copy; then return the goods within 14 days of that message. Return shop purchases well inside 30 days of purchase. Your terms and Halfords support determine the route.
Halfords does not define day units, purchase-day inclusion or whether posting by day 30 suffices. It says late distribution-centre returns are not processed. Post tracked, well before day 28 for online orders, rather than relying on dispatch alone.
Eligible distance purchases have a statutory 14-day cancellation minimum: consumer rights.
60-minute Click and Collect: 30 days from collection
Halfords’ 60-minute service terms start the 30 days at collection, requiring unused goods, packaging/tags, order confirmation and ID. The main page makes late store credit discretionary; the service terms word it differently: late goods qualify for store credit. Ask the store before relying on late returns. Its terms say refunds or store credit are typically processed within five days.
The main page directs pre-collection cancellation through order tracking; the 60-minute terms instead say no cancellation after payment. Try tracking and ask support; the 30-days-from-collection return route remains.
Is there a Halfords Christmas returns extension for 2026?
Halfords had not published a 2026 Christmas extension as of 28 October 2026. The Christmas delivery page shows gifts bought 1 October–24 December 2025, returnable by 31 January 2026. Those dates do not cover 2026 purchases.
Follow the standard window and keep packaging/proof; check for a current notice before relying on an extension.
What Condition and Proof Does Halfords Need?
Halfords requires unused, clean goods in original packaging, with accessories and proof for goodwill returns. Missing accessories can prevent refunds; large items/bikes need original packing notes/invoices. The accepted general proofs are:
- Till receipt.
- Confirmation email.
- E-receipt.
- Order number.
- Confirmation text showing the order number.
Retrieve a receipt from Halfords account order history. Gift-receipt treatment, card/ID lookup and no-proof approval are unpublished; ask support. For statutory fault claims, GOV.UK accepts other evidence, including bank statements; that does not establish goodwill approval.
Nextbase, Xiaomi, TomTom, Garmin and Pioneer: receipt requirements
Halfords requires a till receipt or e-receipt for these brands for serial checks; an order number alone is insufficient. If you are choosing where to buy a dash cam or sat nav, compare Currys’ tech returns rules.
Example: Assume a complete, unused home-delivered accessory within time: its confirmation email is accepted. A Nextbase dash cam instead requires the till receipt or e-receipt.
Where Can You Return a Halfords Order?
Halfords’ return route depends on the item and delivery method:
- Check the item’s branch on the official returns page, including exceptions.
- Gather the required proof, packaging and every accessory.
- Choose an allowed route using the store/garage locator or contact support; use order tracking for cancellation enquiries.
- Keep tracking or collection confirmation to trace receipt.
In a Halfords store or garage
Halfords store purchases and store collections go to retail stores. Home-delivered goods can also use stores, subject to category restrictions. Garage collections can go to a selected garage or retail store; exchanges are retail-store only. Check the route chart.
By post
Halfords requires the returns slip linked from its policy inside the parcel and recommends tracked postage at your expense. Halfords’ returns instructions publish no prepaid label, QR code or self-service portal.
Confirm the slip’s current postal destination with Halfords support before posting. The returns guidance allows up to two weeks’ transit.
Arranged collection for large items and bikes
For eligible home deliveries, the returns page quotes £40 for large items and £15 for bikes. Other documents word it differently: the printable slip still linked there says £7 for large goods including adult bikes, while sale terms say the cost is quoted by size/location. Budget for the page price; get support’s binding quote before booking.
Halfords requires at least two working days’ notice, Monday–Friday collection excluding bank holidays, 09:00–18:00, someone to sign and secure repacking. Bikes must be unbuilt and boxed. Fee basis and payment/deduction method are unpublished; ask when booking.
Example: Assume an approved unused home-delivered bike return, £200 goods refund and confirmed £15 collection, excluding delivery/build refunds or other adjustments. Recovery is £185, whether collection is paid separately or deducted.
For bulky goods, compare B&Q’s large-item returns guidance.
E-scooters, hazardous items, trailers and fitted products
Halfords’ category routes:
- E-scooters: retail store only, unused, with packaging, charger and accessories.
- Hazardous goods: store only, including flammable, pressurised, corrosive or harmful substances; contact support for returns from outside the UK. Halfords’ delivery page words it differently, referring to dispatch-note instructions and transport labels for sending products back; follow the returns page, use a store, and get item-specific instructions from support before arranging any transport.
- Trailers: selected stores or arranged collection; ask support which store accepts yours.
- Mobile Expert fitted goods: contact Mobile Expert support to arrange the return.
Does Halfords Charge for Returns?
Halfords makes change-of-mind post/courier returns your expense. Its main returns page lists no store-return charge or universal free-returns/restocking-fee guarantee. The older slip linked there labels in-store returns free; do not treat that as a universal current guarantee. Confirm any charge before travelling. Returns-page charges:
| Route | Cost |
|---|---|
| Ordinary store return | Main page: no charge listed or universal free-returns promise; linked older slip: free in-store returns, not a universal current guarantee |
| Post/courier you arrange | Your expense |
| Arranged large-item collection | £40 page quote; confirm booking price |
| Arranged bike collection | £15 page quote; confirm booking price |
Cancellation terms include delivery charges in refunds; distance-selling law requires at least standard outbound delivery, excluding a premium upgrade difference. Partial-order allocation and non-cancellation delivery refunds are unpublished; ask support. Motoring Club outbound delivery benefits do not establish free returns.
Can You Return a Used Bike to Halfords?
Yes, within 14 days of purchase, under the detailed used-bike route, if clean and as new apart from minor surface dirt. The Returns FAQs word full refunds differently, requiring unused bikes and deducting wear. A full refund is unconfirmed: ask the original store—or nearest for online purchases—for the amount before handing it over.
Bring receipt/online confirmation, manuals, components and, for e-bikes, charger and battery key. The concession excludes commercial-use bikes, mechanical bikes bought before 25 December 2021 and e-bikes bought before 25 June 2021.
The 14–30-day branch requires an unused bike, original packaging and accessories. Home-delivered bikes can use stores or courier/collection, unbuilt and boxed; shop purchases/collections return in store. Halfords includes paid build costs in approved refunds when purchase was less than 30 days ago.
Example: Assume a ten-day-old personally used bike, clean/as new with parts and proof: confirm its refund. At twenty days, it fails the unused condition.
Refurbished Items, Sat Navs and Other Exceptions
Halfords’ returns page and terms specify:
- Refurbished: return within 14 days of purchase to the collection store/garage, unused, packaged, seal intact, with proof. The refurbished FAQ describes a three-month manufacturer warranty, including Nextbase, additional to statutory rights.
- Sat navs: the main page gives 30 days for small goods; the sat-nav FAQ words it differently at 28 days from purchase, and terms exclude unsealed sat-nav cancellation. Return within 28 days, sealed if unused, with till/e-receipt; confirm your order’s position with support.
- Personalised/made-to-order: no change-of-mind refund/exchange unless faulty.
- Sealed goods: terms exclude cancellation for unsealed memory cards, audio/video recordings and software, plus goods inseparably mixed after delivery. These contractual restrictions do not remove fault rights. Halfords’ list is contractual: opening hardware packaging, such as a sat nav box, to inspect it does not by itself remove a statutory cancellation right, as GOV.UK explains. The statutory exception covers sealed audio, video and software that has been unsealed; excessive handling can reduce a refund.
- Promotional bundles: return every item in online BOGOF, half-price, 3-for-2 or buy/get-free offers; multibuy exchanges also require all items.
Halfords publishes no extra sale/clearance exclusions or blanket bans on child seats, opened tools or batteries; ordinary condition/hazardous rules apply. Compare Screwfix’s tool returns rules.
Halfords Refunds: How Long Do They Take?
Halfords’ returns page says store/garage refunds are triggered immediately. For warehouse returns, the main page says within two working days after receipt and confirming the correct goods, then initiation next working day; the FAQ words it differently, allowing 30 days’ processing then usually 3–5 working days’ bank posting. The cancellation terms instead require refund within 14 days of their applicable trigger. Chase support with your order number after main-page timings pass; statutory deadlines still apply.
Halfords’ FAQ says it may take your name, address and postcode when processing a refund.
| Clock | Published timing | What to track |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Return window | Ordinary page: 30 days; online terms: 28 days to cancel + 14 to return; 60-minute collection: 30 days from collection | Applicable start event and required action |
| 2. Halfords processing | Store/garage: triggered immediately (returns page); 60-minute Click and Collect terms: typically within five days. Warehouse: within two working days after confirmed receipt, trigger next working day; FAQ allows 30 days | Postal transit: up to two weeks before receipt |
| 3. Payment-provider posting | Guaranteed separate stage: Not published. FAQ: usually 3–5 working days | Tables below include earlier stages |
Payment-table postal/courier timings start at distribution-centre receipt:
| Payment | Store return | Post/courier return |
|---|---|---|
| Credit/debit card | 5 days | 8 days |
| PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay | 3 days | 6 days |
| Halfords gift/e-gift card | 1 or 3 days | 3 or 6 days |
The branch tables give gift cards 1/3 days; the summary and refund help word it differently at 3/6: plan on longer figures; confirm with support. Main tables say “days”; help says 3–8 working days. Do not add these figures, processing and bank estimates; ask support to trace the stage.
Terms refund the original card unless expressly agreed otherwise; vouchers may return as vouchers. Split-payment allocation, Cycle2Work destination/timing and cash posting mechanics are unpublished: confirm with support.
Refunds for gift-card payments
For non-Halfords gift cards, the main page says a Halfords gift card, except One For All refunded to its original card. The FAQ words it differently, also offering cash if preferred. Expect the main-page route; ask at the till before relying on cash.
Exchanges at Halfords
Halfords offers retail-store exchanges within 30 days, subject to stock, with unused, packaged goods, accessories and proof. Garages/distribution centres cannot exchange goods. Under terms, pay any higher-price difference or receive the lower-price difference back.
After 30 days, inspection/manager discretion apply; see Click and Collect above. Multibuy exchanges require every involved item. Raise faults separately from ordinary exchanges.
Faulty, Damaged or Wrong Items
Under Halfords’ fault procedure, bring goods, accessories and proof in store: manufacturing faults assessed within 30 days lead to refund/replacement. Later faults are assessed for repair/replacement, sometimes by manufacturers; other damage may incur repair charges.
Nextbase, TomTom and BlackVue require supplier returns merchandise authorisation (RMA) before refunds; after 30 days, they direct you to manufacturers. Scooter routes:
- Xiaomi: later faults go to a repair agent; bring till/e-receipt, charger and accessories.
- Carrera/INDI: manufacturing repairs are free; other damage may be chargeable.
- Segway Ninebot, Micro, Unagi, Inmotion: store-arranged repair/replacement.
For wrong or delivery-damaged goods, Halfords suggests a local store with proof; add photo ID if financed. Bring the whole set for a damaged component, but only damaged goods from mixed orders; contact support if unable to visit.
Faulty fitted goods go to the fitting store/garage or support; Hydepark Corner installations need a revisit arranged through store/support. Your statutory rights apply alongside these procedures.
If Halfords refuses a remedy or a refund doesn’t arrive
Check the refunded amounts for the goods, delivery and any collection charge against the applicable terms and your confirmed quote. Keep proof of purchase, photographs, return tracking and messages showing what Halfords agreed. Raise a complaint through Halfords’ complaints procedure and keep its unique reference. After a final response, unresolved Halfords Limited retail complaints can go to Consumer Arbitration through the retail ADR route, within 12 months of receiving that response. Halfords Autocentres has a separate route; use the section for the business handling your complaint.
Your Rights Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally gives 30 days to reject non-conforming goods, starting the day after the last of these: ownership or possession passes to you, the goods are delivered, and, where the contract requires Halfords to install the goods or take another action so you can use them, Halfords tells you that action has been taken. Clearly tell Halfords you reject them. Refunds are due without undue delay, within 14 days of agreement, by the same payment means unless expressly agreed otherwise, without fees.
Halfords pays reasonable return costs, except personal returns to the original collection point. Repair/replacement must be at Halfords’ expense, reasonably prompt and without significant inconvenience, unless impossible or disproportionate. Faults appearing within six months are presumed present at delivery unless Halfords disproves this or the presumption is incompatible with the fault. After one failed repair/replacement, unavailable remedies, unreasonable delay or significant inconvenience, choose price reduction or final rejection. If you exercise the final right to reject within six months, the refund generally cannot be reduced for use, except for motor vehicles. For this restriction on deductions, the six months start the day after the last of the same events listed above. Manufacturer referrals/warranties do not remove seller liability.
For eligible distance purchases, Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give 14 days after receipt to cancel, then 14 to send back. Refunds are due within 14 days of receiving returned goods or earlier posting evidence if collection was not offered; otherwise within 14 days of cancellation. Properly disclosed direct return costs can be yours.
Unpublished deadline milestones, day counting, partner rules and postal destinations need confirmation from your terms/support; statutory rights remain separate.
Motoring Club Members and Partner Sales
Halfords does not publish a longer goods-return window or free return postage for Free/Premium members; check membership terms and support. Reinstate used benefits through the account’s Chat with an Expert route; reinstatement is not automatic.
Premium membership has separate 14-day cooling-off from start/renewal; used-benefit deductions apply, with possible refusal if benefits exceed fees. Online Exclusive delivery means supplier dispatch, not necessarily a partner sale. Halfords does not publish Approved Partner return rules; check the named seller and ask for its procedure before returning.
Halfords Returns Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money
Check the item’s branch on the official returns page before you travel or post:
- Posting an e-scooter/hazardous item: use a store.
- Taking refurbished goods elsewhere or after 14 days: use the collection location promptly.
- Bringing only an order number for named tech brands: obtain till/e-receipt.
- Omitting chargers, battery keys, manuals or bundle items: return everything required.
- Booking collection without a quote or with a built bike: confirm price and box the unbuilt bike.
- Assuming every online order has 30 days from delivery: cancel within the applicable terms’ deadline.
See how StoreReturners checks retailer pages; confirm your order’s position with Halfords.
FAQ
Can I get my bike build fee back?
Yes. Halfords says a paid build charge is included in an approved bike refund when purchase was less than 30 days ago. The bike must still meet its applicable return conditions; a build charge does not extend the used-bike route. Ask the store to confirm both amounts. Bike return guidance.
Can I return an online Halfords order to a store?
Yes, Halfords allows home-delivered small and large goods to go to retail stores, subject to category conditions. Refurbished goods must return to their collection location; trailers need selected stores or collection. Check the item branch before travelling, and bring the required proof and accessories. Official route charts.
Will Halfords refund delivery charges?
Yes, cancellation refunds under Halfords’ sale terms include delivery charges. Statutory distance cancellation requires at least the standard-delivery cost, excluding any premium upgrade difference. Partial-order allocation and delivery treatment beyond cancellation are not published, so ask support how your particular refund will be calculated. Sale terms and distance-selling rules.
Can I cancel a Click and Collect order before I collect it?
Try order tracking: Halfords’ main page directs cancellation there, while the 60-minute service terms say no cancellation after payment. Ask support which applies to your order rather than assuming cancellation succeeded. The service still provides 30 days from collection to return eligible goods. Main page, service terms.
Can I return personalised or made-to-order items?
Halfords excludes personalised and made-to-order goods from ordinary change-of-mind refunds and exchanges unless faulty. Check the specification before ordering; choosing the wrong personalisation does not create an ordinary return route. If goods are faulty or not as described, raise that separately with Halfords as seller. Returns information.
Do I get my Motoring Club benefit back after a return?
Reinstatement is not automatic. Halfords directs members to dedicated support through Chat with an Expert in their account after returning an order or cancelling a booking. Contact that team about the benefit. The Halfords returns policy treats goods refunds separately from membership cancellation. Benefit reinstatement help.
