Screwfix Return Policy: 30 Days, No Receipt, Refunds and Faults

Screwfix’s UK return policy gives you 30 days from delivery or collection to tell Screwfix you’re cancelling, then 14 days to return the goods. Most unwanted items can go back to any Screwfix store with the order reference. Custom-made, personalised and opened hygiene items such as toilets are excluded, and faulty goods have longer protection.

Key facts

  • The 30-day notification clock starts at delivery or trade-counter collection; split orders count from the last shipment.
  • Goods must go back within 14 days after cancellation; notice can be given by post, phone, email or in store.
  • Most items can go to any store with the order reference; call 03330 112 112 if a store isn’t practical.
  • Refunds normally use the original payment method; the FAQ estimates 3–5 working days for cards and 5–10 for PayPal.
  • Exclusions include cut, mixed, made-to-order or personalised goods, opened water pumps, toilets and macerators, and gift cards.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Screwfix?

Screwfix gives you 30 days to notify cancellation from delivery or collection, then requires return without undue delay and within 14 days after cancellation. For split deliveries, the notice clock starts with the last shipment, under clauses 8.1–8.4.

The voluntary policy doesn’t define day-counting inclusivity, a time-of-day cutoff, or whether dispatch or arrival satisfies the return step. Notify a few days early, return promptly and keep proof. Eligible distance consumers also have a separate statutory 14-day cancellation right, explained below.

If you’re weighing up a B&Q purchase instead, see our B&Q returns guide.

How Do You Tell Screwfix You’re Cancelling?

Screwfix accepts notice by post, phone, email or in store. The model cancellation form is optional and supplies notification contacts; it isn’t a parcel label or permission to send goods to that address.

Split deliveries, refurbished and Sprint orders

Screwfix counts split orders from the final shipment. Refurbished purchases have the same 30-day guarantee and a one-year warranty, subject to the product’s Warranty tab. Sprint purchases can be refunded or exchanged in store, subject to product eligibility.

Is There a Screwfix Christmas Returns Extension for 2026?

Screwfix had not published a 2026 Christmas returns extension in the official material checked on 28 October 2026, though that can’t rule out a later announcement. Use the standard rules and check again in November; promotion dates aren’t return deadlines.

What Condition Do Items Need to Be In?

Screwfix’s cancellation terms require original packaging, all components, promotional free gifts and discounted additional products. Screwfix can deduct loss of value caused by handling beyond what’s necessary to establish the goods’ nature, characteristics and functioning.

A universal tags-attached or sealed-box rule isn’t published in the verified material, nor is unrestricted acceptance of used goods. Keep unwanted items unused, complete and packaged where possible. Eligible distance buyers can inspect goods as in a shop under statutory rules; opened hygiene packaging has a specific exclusion.

How to Return to Screwfix

Screwfix’s published routes are stores and arranged collections; supplier deliveries need an item-specific check. If tools in your project came from Argos too, use the separate Argos return policy guide.

Route Best for How to start Cost Notes
Store Ordinary eligible goods Take order reference No store-return charge listed Any store; supplier exceptions
Arranged collection No nearby store; awkward item Call 03330 112 112 Conflicting wording; ask Arrange before sending
Supplier collection Supplier-direct goods Contact Screwfix Some unwanted collections up to £20 Fee basis unpublished
Post Not verified Ask Screwfix Not verified Current postal route not verified; older instructions unconfirmed

Returning to any Screwfix store

Ordinary purchases from stores, online or by phone can usually go to any store, according to the returns FAQ.

  1. Check eligibility and whether an approved supplier delivered the item.
  2. Pack the goods, components and promotional extras.
  3. Bring the original order reference to a store found through the store locator.
  4. Ask for the refund or exchange details before leaving.

For online PayPal purchases, staff request a central refund; an exchange, replacement or system credit may be arranged instead. Don’t expect automatic cash at the counter.

Arranging a collection

Call 03330 112 112 when no store is nearby or the item is difficult to carry. The FAQ describes free collection, while clause 8.4 puts cancellation returns at your cost, with some supplier charges also allowed. Screwfix’s pages word this differently: confirm any charge when booking. An eligible store return avoids collection costs.

Approved-supplier deliveries

Screwfix Direct Ltd remains the seller when an approved supplier delivers. The returns FAQ and one supplier-help answer allow some store returns according to red product-page instructions; another supplier-help answer says supplier deliveries cannot go to stores.

Don’t travel unless the item’s red return text permits it; otherwise contact Screwfix to arrange supplier collection. The product page and customer services must confirm your item’s route. Some unwanted collections cost up to £20 depending on the goods; whether that cap is per item, order or collection isn’t published. Ask for the actual charge.

Can You Post a Return to Screwfix?

Screwfix’s current help doesn’t confirm a postal returns route, label, parcel-shop or locker option. An older Screwfix returns form described a postal option, but it couldn’t be confirmed against current help, so don’t rely on it: use a store or call 03330 112 112 for collection instructions. That form also gave fuel and lithium-battery transport instructions; ask Screwfix whether they still apply before arranging transport.

Can You Return to Screwfix Without a Receipt?

Screwfix asks for the order reference and doesn’t publish a voluntary no-receipt refund route, but account records can help recover the paperwork. Staff can find your account by customer number or name and postcode; finding an account doesn’t guarantee a refund.

Photo ID alone, a bank statement alone, gift receipts and automatic store credit aren’t published voluntary routes. For legal-rights claims, GOV.UK accepts other purchase evidence, including a bank statement or packaging identifying the purchase.

How to get a copy of your Screwfix invoice

Follow Screwfix’s account-help instructions:

  1. Sign in and open Order History.
  2. Select the order and choose View Order Details.
  3. Choose Email Invoice.

Copies can also be requested by phone, email or post. Invoices are retained for 18 months before archiving; archived retrieval needs the order reference. App receipts also last 18 months, with store/contact-centre help for older records. Check despatch-email attachments too; Trade UK invoices appear in its portal in 2–3 days. These are record-retention periods, not return windows.

Does Screwfix Charge for Returns?

Screwfix lists no store-return charge or general flat restocking fee in its terms. Collection wording conflicts: the FAQ says free collection, but the terms put cancellation returns at your cost; some unwanted supplier collections cost up to £20. Confirm the charge before booking.

Whole-order cancellation refunds standard original delivery, or only its standard-equivalent amount if you paid for premium delivery. Partial cancellation refunds none of the original delivery charge. Faulty or incorrect goods use Screwfix’s nominated carrier at its cost. Foundation donations aren’t refunded, and excess handling can reduce the goods refund.

Example: Assume £60 of goods, £5 standard delivery, £8 paid for premium delivery and no deductions. Whole-order cancellation refunds £60 + £5 = £65; the £3 premium excess isn’t promised. Separately, returning only one £20 item from an order with £5 delivery refunds £20, assuming no adjustments; delivery remains charged.

How Long Do Screwfix Refunds Take?

Screwfix’s FAQ estimates 3–5 working days for cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, or 5–10 working days for PayPal. The terms’ payment deadline is a different clock.

Stage Screwfix’s published figure
1. Return window Notify within 30 days of delivery/collection; return within 14 days after cancellation
2. Screwfix pays Within 14 days after notice if goods weren’t received, after goods arrive back, or after proof of return if goods haven’t arrived
3. Money reaches you FAQ: 3–5 working days for cards/mobile payments; 5–10 for PayPal; exact start and stage coverage unpublished
Bank/provider posting alone Not published

Don’t add these figures together: Screwfix doesn’t say whether the FAQ estimates cover bank posting alone or the whole process. For overdue refunds, contact Screwfix with order and refund details, including the payment method.

PayPal, gift card and eGift card refunds

Refunds normally use the original payment method; PayPal customers can choose refund or customer credit. Under the gift-card terms, goods paid for by gift card refund to that card, or a new one if unavailable. eGift purchases returned in store refund to a physical gift card.

Mixed tenders, gift-recipient refunds and expired payment cards aren’t covered by published instructions; ask Screwfix how your payment will be handled.

How Rewards discounts change your refund

Screwfix’s Spend & Save reward-list terms spread money-off across the order and deduct the returned item’s allocated discount from its refund.

Example: Assume a £10 code on a £100 two-item order, £6 allocated to a £60 item, and no other deduction. Returning that item gives £60 − £6 = £54. Coin reversals and code reissue aren’t verified, and no longer membership window is published.

Exchanges at Screwfix

Screwfix offers direct exchanges under the 30-day guarantee and recommends visiting a store. Stock reservation, postal exchanges, price differences and a new return clock aren’t published. Agree any price difference at the counter and keep the replacement receipt. Product exclusions still apply.

What Can’t You Return to Screwfix?

Screwfix’s terms and gift-card terms exclude these from ordinary cancellation:

  • Goods cut or mixed to requirements, made to measure/order or personalised: examples include made-to-order radiators, preassembled kitchens, mixed paint, keyed-alike/master-keyed locks and embroidered goods.
  • Items marked on the website or catalogue as outside the 30-day policy.
  • Screwfix Foundation donations.
  • Gift cards/eGift cards: no return or exchange for cash or credit.

Fault rights remain separate. A blanket exclusion for opened boilers, boiler parts or spares isn’t established by the current verified UK terms; check the actual listing rather than assuming eligibility.

Opened toilets, water pumps and macerators

Screwfix excludes these hygiene-sensitive items from cancellation once product packaging is opened after delivery or collection. Keep the box closed until you’re sure. The FAQ’s used-item examples don’t promise acceptance of opened-but-unused items; faults require a separate assessment.

Faulty Screwfix Items: Refund, Repair or Replacement

Screwfix’s terms offer a full refund or replacement for problems reported within 30 days of delivery or collection. The installed-item FAQ instead says purchase. Report within 30 days of purchase where possible and ask Screwfix to confirm the applicable route; the separate statutory clock isn’t shortened by FAQ wording.

For a fault in an item that’s already installed, Screwfix’s returns FAQ suggests first checking for a manufacturer helpline, repair service or warranty, then contacting Screwfix or a store if none is available or you need help. That’s a practical first step, not a condition of your legal rights against Screwfix as the seller.

Arrange faulty-goods carriage through Screwfix’s nominated carrier at its cost. Manufacturer warranties add to legal rights; they don’t replace later remedies.

What If a Fault Appears After 30 Days?

Screwfix says repair, replacement, price reduction or refund may apply after 30 days, including where no manufacturer service exists. Its faults FAQ describes free repairs for selected power tools through stores/customer services, and Apelson collection-for-repair for selected Titan, Erbauer and Mac Allister garden tools and pressure washers. Check product information for eligibility.

Screwfix can contact the manufacturer for you. Some extended warranties require registration within 28 days of purchase; that isn’t a return deadline. Refurbished items retain after-30-day fault support. If comparing after-sales arrangements before buying tools or garden machinery, consult our Halfords returns guide.

Damaged or wrong deliveries

Report damage or incorrect goods as soon as possible with the order reference and item details; supplier help asks for photographs where possible. Store-collected goods should go back to that store for assistance.

UK law gives consumers separate protections. GOV.UK explains that in-store change-of-mind refunds generally depend on retailer policy. Eligible online/phone consumers normally have 14 days after receipt to cancel, then 14 days to send goods back without undue delay, subject to legal exceptions.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, reimbursement normally falls due within 14 days of goods receipt or earlier proof of sending when the trader hasn’t offered collection; otherwise the notice starts the clock. Refunds use the same payment method unless expressly agreed otherwise, without a reimbursement fee.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally gives 30 days to reject qualifying faulty goods, beginning the day after ownership/possession, delivery and required trader setup are complete. Later remedies generally involve repair/replacement, then potentially price reduction or final rejection. The six-month presumption that a fault existed at delivery isn’t six months of automatic refunds.

For statutory rejection, the seller bears reasonable return costs, except the cost of returning in person to the place where you originally took possession. Refund is due within 14 days of agreeing entitlement.

Screwfix’s guarantee offers more change-of-mind protection in store than the law requires, but doesn’t define all fault rights. Product exclusions and unpublished counting details limit a general guide: use the terms and customer services for order-specific answers. See how StoreReturners checks policies.

If a return, fault claim or refund stays unresolved, complain through Screwfix’s help and contact page. That page says an unsatisfactory response can be reviewed by its Customer Resolutions team, and it points to Citizens Advice for further support. Keep the order reference, customer details and earlier correspondence.

Do Trade Customers Get the Same Rights?

Consumer status depends on buying wholly or mainly outside your trade, business, craft or profession. A Trade UK account or Screwfix Card alone doesn’t decide it. No longer return window for members was verified in Screwfix’s terms.

Screwfix Return Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money

Avoid these errors under the return policy Screwfix publishes in its terms:

  • Counting from purchase rather than delivery/collection, or missing the separate 14-day return step.
  • Driving supplier-delivered goods to a store without checking red product-page instructions.
  • Expecting original delivery back after cancelling only one item.
  • Opening a toilet, pump or macerator box before deciding.
  • Assuming a manufacturer warranty is the only option after 30 days.

FAQ

Can I return a Screwfix gift card?

Screwfix’s gift-card terms don’t allow gift cards or eGift cards to be returned or exchanged for cash or credit, while preserving statutory rights. Returning goods bought with a card is different: eligible goods refund to the original card or a new card, with in-store eGift returns refunded to a physical card.

Is a Screwfix Foundation donation refunded if I cancel my order?

No. Screwfix’s terms exclude Foundation donations from order-cancellation refunds. If you cancel the whole order, the refund covers the goods and the standard delivery charge, less any handling deduction, but not the donation. Cancelling part of an order doesn’t return the donation or the original delivery charge either.

Do I have to register a warranty to keep my rights?

Some extended manufacturer warranties require registration within 28 days of purchase, so check the product documentation for that additional cover. Your statutory consumer rights don’t depend on registering a warranty, and expiry of manufacturer cover doesn’t itself end a fault claim against the seller. The remedy depends on the circumstances.

Does a Screwfix Card or Rewards membership give me longer to return?

No longer return window was verified for Screwfix Card, Rewards, Trade UK, Electricfix or Plumbfix members in the sale terms, Rewards terms or Screwfix Card FAQ checked. Use the standard cancellation stages unless Screwfix confirms a specific offer. Rewards discounts can still reduce the refund amount, and consumer status is a separate question.

Who pays to send back a faulty item that was delivered?

Screwfix’s terms say it meets return-delivery costs for faulty goods and nominates the carrier, so arrange transport through Screwfix before booking your own courier. Statutory rejection also generally puts reasonable return costs on the seller. Keep this fault route separate from change-of-mind collection charges under the Screwfix return policy.
