Tesco Return Policy: 30 Days, No Receipt, F&F and Marketplace

The Tesco return policy in the UK gives most products 30 days for a refund or replacement with proof, subject to exceptions. F&F online returns start within 30 days of delivery: free at larger stores or £2.50 by Evri. Marketplace returns go to the seller, never a Tesco store.

Key facts

  • 30 days with proof of purchase for a refund or replacement, subject to category exceptions; Tesco does not say whether most items count from purchase or delivery.
  • Express purchases can go to any Tesco store; Extra/Superstore purchases only to an Extra or Superstore. Faulty items cannot go to Express.
  • Clubcard used at purchase allows transaction lookup for up to 30 days afterwards; without receipt or Clubcard, as-new items qualify for exchange at their current scanned price.
  • F&F online returns are free at larger stores or £2.50 per return by Evri, deducted from the refund. Online orders cannot be exchanged.
  • Card credits take 3–5 working days to show after processing; F&F Evri returns add up to 5 working days in transit.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Tesco?

30 days with proof, subject to exceptions. Tesco does not specify the generic start, day units or posting/arrival deadline. Return well inside 30 days of purchase.

Tesco publishes no longer window or fee waiver for Clubcard or Clubcard Plus members, so assume the ordinary rules. Where Tesco shows an order-specific deadline, it appears in My Orders. Compare non-food supermarket policies: Sainsbury’s returns guide.

Does the 30 Days Start at Purchase or Delivery?

Channel clocks differ:

  • General Tesco: start event not published.
  • F&F in store: purchase.
  • F&F online: delivery; start the return within 30 days.
  • Marketplace: contact within 30 days; start event not published. Check My Orders’ countdown and confirm dispatch deadlines with the seller.
  • Online ink cartridges/electronic toothbrushes: delivery, with different remedies before and after 14 days.

Counting/bank-holiday rules are unpublished: act early.

Is There a Tesco Christmas Return Extension for 2026?

When checked on 28 October 2026, Tesco’s seasonal help links for store, F&F online and Marketplace purchases led to general FAQ pages with no dated 2026 terms: no qualifying purchase dates, deadline, exclusions or channel coverage. That does not rule out an extension later. Until Tesco publishes 2026 terms, use the ordinary rules and ignore older or Tesco Ireland dates.

Which Tesco Store Can You Return To?

The store-purchase rules and faulty-product rules specify:

  1. Express purchases: any Tesco store, subject to product exceptions.
  2. Extra/Superstore purchases: only an Extra or Superstore; original store preferred.
  3. Faulty items: Extra/Superstore, never Express.
  4. Grocery after delivery/collection: Extra/Superstore.
  5. F&F online: larger stores, not Express.
  6. Store medicines: purchasing store; store cosmetics: Extra/Superstore.

Check Tesco’s store locator.

Can You Return to Tesco Without a Receipt?

A Tesco return without receipt depends on Clubcard use at purchase, under the no-receipt guidance:

  • Clubcard used: Tesco can search the transaction for up to 30 days after purchase and offer a refund, subject to product eligibility.
  • Neither receipt nor Clubcard: an as-new change-of-mind item can be exchanged for another product of equal value at the current scanned price. Cash or card refunds are not promised.

Example: Assume an eligible as-new item cost £20 but now scans at £12. The exchange value is £12, not £20.

No Tesco-wide bank-statement, card, ID or receipt-photo lookup is published for change of mind; ask before travelling. Bank statements support faulty-goods claims under GOV.UK guidance.

Personalised Your Clubcard Prices Need the Receipt

Tesco’s no-receipt FAQ offers 30-day Clubcard lookup, but the Clubcard terms, Your Clubcard Prices clause require a valid receipt for personalised-offer returns. The pages word it differently: keep the receipt and do not rely on lookup for personalised offers; ask Tesco customer service to confirm your purchase’s treatment. This concerns personalised offers, not ordinary Clubcard Prices.

Returning Tesco Grocery Orders and Food

Home Delivery and Click+Collect

Cancel or amend the order in your Tesco account before the amendment cut-off in your order confirmation. Tesco’s product terms do not accept cancellation by email.

Tesco’s online-purchase guidance lets you hand unwanted items to the driver or collection colleague for a payment-card refund. The Freshness Guarantee also covers unsatisfactory fresh food or flowers at handover.

Afterwards, take eligible items to an Extra/Superstore with the delivery note or confirmation email; some hygiene products are excluded. A minimum-basket charge is refunded only when the whole shop is refunded, not a few items.

Whoosh Rapid Delivery

Tesco says Whoosh drivers cannot take individual unwanted products back: accept delivery and call 0800 323 4040 for a refund. The product terms separately allow refusing the entire order and returning non-perishables to a store.

Can You Return Chilled or Frozen Food to Tesco?

No, Tesco excludes chilled/frozen change-of-mind returns in store and after grocery handover. Other perishables must remain within their use-by/best-before date. Quality complaints follow the Freshness Guarantee at handover or the faulty-goods route below.

Statutory cooling-off excludes rapid perishables and qualifying regular grocery delivery rounds; do not assume every food order gets 14 days.

How Do You Return F&F Clothing to Tesco?

Take F&F bought in store to a larger Tesco store within 30 days of purchase. For F&F bought online, start the return within 30 days of delivery, then return it free at a larger store or by Evri for £2.50 per return. Compare clothing policies: M&S returns guide.

F&F Bought in a Tesco Store

Tesco’s F&F store policy requires proof, saleable clothing, original packaging and tags at a larger store. Clothing must be unworn except for trying on; underwear is included under these conditions.

F&F Bought Online: Free Return at a Larger Store

Tesco’s online F&F store instructions give these steps:

  1. Open your account orders and select Return to Tesco store.
  2. Take the clothing to a larger store, not Express, and show the barcode.
  3. Ask the colleague to use your Clubcard if the barcode fails.

No online return form is needed. Items must be unworn except try-on, packaged and tagged; pierced jewellery is excluded. The product terms also require clothing to be unwashed.

F&F Bought Online: Evri Drop-Off for £2.50

The F&F overview lists £2.50 per return, deducted from the refund under the product terms. Follow Tesco’s Evri instructions:

  1. Open account orders and select Return online.
  2. Choose items and reasons; obtain the emailed QR code.
  3. Print the label at drop-off or at home, package securely and drop at Evri.

Multi-parcel/order fee handling and post-initiation dispatch/arrival deadlines are unpublished. Confirm before splitting; drop off the day you start.

Example: Assume one accepted change-of-mind return of £40 merchandise, one £2.50 fee and no other adjustments: £40 − £2.50 = £37.50. Tesco does not publish whether original delivery charges are refunded or how the £2.50 applies to a faulty item sent by Evri, so ask Tesco before sending a faulty item that way.

The F&F School Uniform Quality Guarantee

Tesco’s school uniform guarantee covers manufacturing/workmanship faults for one year from purchase, including school shoes. Take proof to a larger store for replacement, or a similar item/refund if unavailable.

Exclusions include coats, accessories, socks/tights/underwear, wear, accidental/deliberate damage, misuse, foreign substances, accessory loss/damage and consequential loss. This quality guarantee is not a one-year change-of-mind window.

Tesco Marketplace Returns Go to the Seller

Marketplace items are sold and dispatched by separate sellers; check your order’s seller. Tesco’s Marketplace return promise says contact the seller within 30 days:

  1. Open My Orders and the order receipt.
  2. Select Return products to raise a Return Request.
  3. Follow the seller’s next steps for address, carrier and label.

Clock start and dispatch limits are unpublished: check your account deadline and seller instructions. The product terms say never send items to Tesco or take them to its stores: they will not be accepted and may not be recoverable.

  • Condition: Return unused, undamaged items in original condition with parts, labels and packaging where required. Put the return label on outer packaging; excessive handling or retail-packaging damage can reduce the refund.
  • Exclusions: Personalised/perishable/live/chilled/frozen products are excluded after delivery; hygiene seals must stay intact, and clothing/underwear must remain saleable, unworn except try-on and tagged. Faulty rights remain.
  • Refused return: For refusals, obtain the reason, contact the seller, then escalate to Tesco.

Who Pays for Marketplace Return Postage?

Ask the seller about labels, collection and charges; no universal Marketplace fee is published. Its refund guidance says standard delivery is usually refunded if the item is returned within 14 days of purchase; express reimbursement is capped at the standard rate.

That purchase-based wording differs from statutory cancellation’s receipt/notice clock below. For eligible non-faulty legal cancellations, disclosed direct return costs normally fall to you unless the trader agrees to pay.

Tesco Refunds: How Long Do They Take?

Tesco’s refund FAQ gives 3–5 working days for card posting after processing, excluding transit and processing.

Route Clock 1: return window / transit Clock 2: Tesco or seller processing Clock 3: bank/provider posting
General Tesco Generally 30 days; start not published Not published 3–5 working days
F&F online, store Start within 30 days of delivery Within 1 working day 3–5 working days
F&F online, Evri Start within 30 days of delivery; transit up to 5 working days Within 1 working day of receipt 3–5 working days
Marketplace Contact seller within 30 days Seller receipt/authorisation time: Not published; then processed within 3–5 working days Not published

F&F checks can take longer for missing/unexpected items. Marketplace processing starts after seller receipt and authorisation, not dispatch. Cash-refund timing and lost/expired-card fallback are unpublished; ask Tesco.

Where Does a Tesco Refund Go?

Tesco refunds cards to the same card, gift/money cards to a Tesco gift/money card, and online vouchers as points. F&F online follows card/points routing; Marketplace uses the original card. Discounted items use the offer price paid; partial multi-buy returns can remove the promotion and adjust the refund.

The refund FAQ excludes online groceries from earned-points deductions, while Clubcard terms clause 10 reserve removal for returns/refunds without that exception. The pages word it differently: assume earned points may be removed, check your account afterwards, and ask Clubcard customer service through Tesco help for your transaction’s treatment.

For in-store purchases, the FAQ prioritises voucher value as points, then gift card, then card; Clubcard terms clause 8 cover in-store and online purchases, allocating the voucher-funded eligible-basket share to points and the remainder to original payment. The pages word it differently: keep the payment-split receipt and ask Tesco before a partial return.

Exchanges at Tesco

Tesco offers replacements/refunds and store exchanges subject to conditions. Exchange fees, price differences and stock guarantees are unpublished.

F&F online orders cannot be exchanged or replaced, even in store: return for refund and reorder.

What Can’t You Return to Tesco?

Tesco’s change-of-mind exclusions vary by category:

  • Chilled/frozen food after handover or bought in store.
  • Some hygiene products bought online, such as toothbrushes; unused electronic toothbrushes follow the narrower rules below.
  • F&F online pierced jewellery.
  • Gaming software cards.
  • Tesco and third-party gift cards.
  • Store Essentials/No-contract SIMs.
  • Marketplace personalised and perishable products after delivery.

For small electrical purchases, compare our Argos returns guide.

Ink Cartridges and Electronic Toothbrushes

Tesco’s ink/toothbrush policy allows unused store purchases to be exchanged with proof. Unused online purchases qualify for refund or exchange in store up to 14 days after delivery; after 14 and within 30 days, exchange only, with proof.

Medicines, Cosmetics and DVD or Game Discs

Medicines must be sealed in original packaging with proof; store medicines go to the purchasing store, and Pharmacy over-the-counter purchases only through Tesco Pharmacy. Store cosmetics need proof, sealed/unopened saleable condition and undamaged original packaging at Extra/Superstore; contact Tesco for online cosmetics instructions. DVD/game discs must be unused and sealed.

Returning Tesco Mobile Phones and SIMs

The SIM-free/PAYG guidance directs shoppers to Customer Helpline collection; contracts go through Tesco Mobile. Follow Tesco Mobile’s channel instructions:

  • Store PAYG phones: return to store within 30 days of purchase with receipt, original undamaged packaging and accessories.
  • Online/phone orders: book collection through Tesco Mobile.
  • Northern Ireland: book through the care team.
  • Store top-up vouchers: return within 30 days of purchase with receipt, original undamaged packaging and unused credit.

Online/app/phone top-ups: notify within 14 days for unused-credit refunds.

For pay monthly, Tesco Mobile help says 14 days from receipt, while general terms section 14.2 say 14 working days. The pages word it differently: act within 14 calendar days of receipt and obtain Tesco Mobile confirmation for your order. Usage charges may apply. Under the pay monthly terms (January 2026), notify Customer Care (or use the cancellation form on Tesco Mobile help) first, then return the handset within 14 days of notice; a cancelled SIM-only contract needs no SIM return; in-store cancellation requires the handset at the original store that day. A handset bought on a credit agreement has its own cooling-off terms.

Faulty Tesco Items and Your Consumer Rights

Tesco’s faulty-item procedure counts from receipt: within 30 days, or a perishable’s use-by period, choose repair, replacement or full refund. After 30 days and within 12 months, Tesco offers repair, then refund if repair fails; after 12 months, contact Tesco. Take faulty items to Extra/Superstore, never Express.

Faulty F&F online has a full-refund promise within 12 months of receiving the order. Marketplace faults go to the seller: support runs for 12 months from delivery, with a full remedy in the first six months; afterwards proof of an original fault may be needed. After 12 months, contact the seller directly. Damaged/missing deliveries also go to the seller first, then Tesco if unresolved.

For TVs, Tesco sends troubleshooting, repair and spare-part questions to the manufacturer, but your faulty-goods rights against Tesco still apply.

What Does UK Consumer Law Add?

In-store change-of-mind refunds are voluntary. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally allows 30-day faulty-goods rejection after delivery/ownership/required installation; perishables have shorter periods. You must tell the seller clearly that you are rejecting the goods. Remedies can continue beyond a guarantee. Sellers bear necessary repair or replacement costs, including postage. For rejected goods, sellers bear reasonable return costs, except the cost of taking goods back in person to where you received them. Rejection refunds are due within 14 days of agreement.

For eligible distance orders, Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 allow cancellation notice within 14 days after receipt; return within 14 days of notice. Whole-contract refunds include standard delivery. Without collection, refunds are due within 14 days of returned goods or earlier dispatch evidence. Rapid perishables, personalised goods, unsealed hygiene goods/software and qualifying regular grocery rounds are excluded. Disclosed non-faulty return costs fall to you unless the trader agrees otherwise.

This guide covers Tesco’s published UK rules as checked on 28 October 2026. It cannot see your order’s countdown, a seller’s instructions or your Clubcard balance, and the store, seller or Tesco customer service makes the final decision on acceptance. You can ask about your order without giving up your statutory rights. See how we check retailer policies.

Tesco Return Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money

  • Wrong store: take Extra/Superstore purchases and faulty goods to Extra/Superstore, not Express.
  • Wrong seller: send Marketplace returns only where the seller instructs, never Tesco.
  • Avoidable courier fee: compare £2.50 Evri with a free larger-store F&F online return.
  • Expecting a size swap: F&F online requires refund and reorder.
  • Relying on lookup: ask within 30 days of purchase; retain personalised Your Clubcard Prices receipts.
  • Ignoring a multi-buy adjustment: ask how returning one item changes the promotion before assuming the refund amount.

FAQ

Do Clubcard Plus members get longer to return items?

Tesco publishes no longer return window or universal fee waiver for Clubcard Plus in the reviewed guidance. Use the ordinary category/channel deadline unless Tesco confirms a specific offer for your purchase. Membership promises neither extra days nor free courier returns.

Can I swap an F&F online order for a different size?

No. Tesco says F&F online orders cannot be exchanged or replaced, including when returned at a larger store. Return the clothing for a refund and place a new order for the size you want. Check availability before placing your next order.

Does Tesco charge a restocking fee?

No universal restocking fee is listed, but Tesco does not establish that all returns are free. The published F&F Evri charge is £2.50 per return; larger-store F&F online returns are free. Marketplace fees are not published universally, so confirm the seller’s instructions before sending anything.

Can I return a gift bought at Tesco without the buyer’s receipt?

Tesco publishes no general gift-receipt or recipient-refund procedure. Ask Tesco before travelling. Clubcard lookup requires Clubcard to have been used for the purchase; otherwise eligible as-new items may qualify for exchange at current scanned value. A cash or card refund to the gift recipient is not promised.

Can I return F&F underwear?

Tesco’s in-store F&F policy includes underwear if unworn except for trying on, saleable, tagged and in original packaging, with proof within 30 days of purchase. Marketplace underwear has separate seller conditions, including tags. Online, only pierced jewellery is excluded for hygiene; that is not a ban on returning clothing.

Will returning part of a multi-buy change my refund?

It can. Tesco says returning part of a multi-buy can remove the promotion and adjust the refund; discounted goods are refunded at the offer price paid. Keep receipts; ask about adjustments. The Tesco return policy does not promise the undiscounted shelf price.
