TK Maxx Return Policy: 28 Days, Receipts and Christmas Exchanges
The TK Maxx return policy in the UK gives 28 days to return unused items with tags and a receipt or despatch note. Store purchases count from purchase; TK Maxx’s pages word the online start differently. Eligible online orders go to a store or by post at your cost. 2026 festive exchanges run 1 October 2026–14 January 2027.
Key facts
- Store refunds allow 28 days from purchase. Online pages say despatch, receipt or purchase: count from the order date to be safe.
- Standard proof is the store receipt or online despatch note. A Treasure card or account is not proof.
- Ordinary online postage is your cost; online items at £499.99 or more are post-only with a prepaid label.
- The 2026 festive notice offers in-store exchanges or same-value gift cards, not an extended refund window.
- Refunds use the original payment method. TK Maxx estimates 3–5 working days without stating the starting event.

How Long Is the TK Maxx Return Window?
28 days from purchase is TK Maxx’s refund window for store purchases. Its returns policy requires unused goods in original condition, with packaging, labelling and tags attached. Items that have been used, or whose tags have been removed or tampered with, fall outside the voluntary policy.
TK Maxx does not define calendar versus working days, inclusive counting, time of day or weekend adjustments. Return a few days early.
When Does the 28 Days Start for an Online Order?
TK Maxx’s pages word the online start three ways: the returns FAQ says despatch, the online purchase terms say receipt, and the festive refund notice says purchase. Count from the order date to be safe, rather than relying on the later despatch or delivery date; at the latest, work from the despatch-note date. Ask through the Contact Us form for the binding answer for your order before relying on a later deadline.
Pre-loved accessories specifically use the despatch-note date, but that does not settle the general wording conflict.
Does a Posted Return Have to Arrive Within 28 Days?
TK Maxx does not say whether posting, carrier acceptance or warehouse arrival must happen within 28 days. Post well inside the window and keep the proof of postage required by its instructions.
Where Can You Return a TK Maxx Item?
TK Maxx store purchases can go to any TK Maxx store; eligible online purchases can go to a store or by post. The official policy makes high-value online goods and (RE)FOUND menswear exceptions.
Returning to a TK Maxx Store
TK Maxx accepts standard store purchases and eligible online orders in store. Bring the unused item with packaging and tags, plus the store receipt or online despatch note.
- Check the category exceptions below.
- Choose a shop using the Store Finder.
- Take the item and its purchase document within the applicable window.
Checkpoint: confirm you have the receipt or despatch note before travelling. Avoid taking a £499.99+ online item to a store, or (RE)FOUND to a different store. Store purchases have no general postal route.
Posting an Online Order Back
TK Maxx’s ordinary postal route covers eligible online orders at your cost. Gather the item, packaging and despatch-note form or written substitute below.
- Follow the despatch note, including its return-to-store indicator and any item-specific label instructions.
- Complete the return form, choosing a reason code from TK Maxx’s list (Faulty, Incorrect item delivered, Arrived too late, Unwanted gift, Unsuitable, Doesn’t fit, Other), or include the missing-note details below.
- Pack securely and address it to TK Maxx Returns, DHL Supply Chain, Unit 1, Waver Way, Rugby, CV23 0XF.
- Post the parcel and keep proof of postage.
Checkpoint: retain the posting evidence. Do not assume a portal or QR code replaces the paperwork: TK Maxx publishes no general portal, mandated carrier, collection service or return-authorisation requirement in these instructions.
Items at £499.99 or More: Post Only, With a Prepaid Label
TK Maxx online items priced £499.99 or more per item must go back by post using the supplied prepaid label. Include original packaging, certificates and tags.
- Check the item’s price.
- Pack its packaging, certificates and tags with it.
- Follow the supplied label instructions and keep proof of postage.
Checkpoint: use the prepaid postal route, rather than travelling to a store. Example: assuming otherwise eligible online items, £499.99 meets the threshold; £499.98 does not, but that does not make its postage free.
Pre-Loved Handbags and (RE)FOUND Menswear
TK Maxx pre-loved accessories and handbags allow 28 days from the despatch-note date, in the condition received, with packaging, tags and supplied authenticity stickers/cards. Its men’s (RE)FOUND range allows 28 days but requires the original purchase store, purchased condition, red tag and receipt; that category text does not separately define the clock’s start or day-count convention.
- Keep the category’s tags and authenticity documents.
- Use the prepaid postal route for pre-loved online items at £499.99 or more.
- Take (RE)FOUND menswear to the original store with its receipt.
Checkpoint: distinguish the high-value postal restriction from the same-store menswear restriction. Removing the red tag or discarding authenticity cards can prevent the relevant return.
Can You Return to TK Maxx Without a Receipt?
TK Maxx does not publish a store-return route without the receipt. Its standard proof is the store receipt or online despatch note. Older guides still promise store credit with photo ID or personal details; TK Maxx’s UK pages do not offer that, and card lookup, bank-statement change-of-mind returns, reprints and digital-copy substitutes are not documented either.
A Treasure card or online account expressly does not prove purchase under current Treasure term 8(g). Find the receipt or ask TK Maxx before travelling; compare Primark receipt and return requirements if you are checking another value-fashion purchase.
For faulty goods, the law is separate: GOV.UK says proof such as a bank statement or packaging can support statutory rights. That does not guarantee a change-of-mind return without a receipt.
Lost Your Despatch Note? The Postal Workaround
TK Maxx permits a written substitute for a missing despatch note for postal returns. Include all seven details: name, billing address, phone number, account email, order number, item description and a reason for return from those codes. Retrieve the order number from My Account; this is not a published substitute for store proof.
Returning a Gift With a Gift Receipt
TK Maxx allows gifts with a receipt or gift receipt to be exchanged for goods or an equal-value TK Maxx/Homesense gift card. A gift receipt does not promise a cash or card refund. The 2026 festive notice offers the same two remedies.
Does TK Maxx Charge for Returns?
TK Maxx lists no restocking, inspection or administration fee, but ordinary postal returns are at your cost. Its policy publishes no fixed postage tariff or per-item, order or parcel deduction; absence of a fee listing does not guarantee every route is free.
| Situation | Return postage | Original delivery refunded? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary voluntary return | You pay; £499.99+ online items have prepaid labels | No; return costs also excluded | Returns policy |
| Full statutory cancellation | Normally yours if properly informed, unless retailer agrees to pay; eligible store route free | Standard delivery, excluding faster-delivery extra | Cancellation terms and regulation 35 |

TK Maxx Christmas Returns 2026: The Festive Exchange Window
TK Maxx’s 2026 festive notice publishes 1 October 2026 to 14 January 2027 for in-store exchanges for goods or a same-value gift card. Store and online purchases are covered, with a full or gift receipt and normal conditions; gift cards themselves are excluded.
Refunds still need the full receipt and original payment method within 28 days from purchase. For online orders, that purchase-date wording differs from the despatch and receipt wordings explained above; count from the order date if you want a refund rather than an exchange.
A separate purchase cutoff is not published: keep the gift receipt and exchange well before 14 January 2027. The notice does not explain the festive route for £499.99+ online items, which are normally post-only; ask TK Maxx first.
Example: assume a jumper bought in store on 20 November 2026, unused with tags, is given with a gift receipt. By 5 January 2027 more than 28 days have passed, closing the refund route, but the date falls within the festive span: the recipient can exchange in store for goods or a same-value gift card. The notice offers no extended cash/card refund.
Gift buyers can also check Matalan’s Christmas return provisions.
How Long Do TK Maxx Refunds Take?
TK Maxx estimates 3–5 working days for refunds, without stating what starts that clock. Its refund FAQ does not split retailer processing from bank posting.
| Stage | Store return | Postal return |
|---|---|---|
| Return window | 28 days from purchase | 28 days; three start wordings; posting/arrival deadline unpublished |
| TK Maxx’s refund estimate | 3–5 working days; start unstated | 3–5 working days; start unstated |
| Retailer processing separately | Not published | Not published |
| Bank/provider posting separately | Not published | Not published |
Do not add the estimate to invented warehouse or bank stages.
Gift Card, PayPal and Click & Collect Refunds
TK Maxx refunds to the original payment method, including PayPal balance back to that balance. Gift-card-funded goods are refunded to a gift card; store returns of eGift-funded goods receive a new TK Maxx/Homesense gift card.
For an uncollected Click & Collect order, contact TK Maxx once it confirms the order has reached the store, then allow 10 working days for the refund (Click & Collect help). Collected returns use the ordinary policy. Mixed-payment allocation, lost-original-card alternatives and Apple Pay-specific rules are unpublished: ask before returning if affected.
Can You Exchange an Item at TK Maxx?
TK Maxx does not offer direct exchanges for ordinary online orders: return and reorder. Gift receipts support exchanges, the festive notice expressly permits online purchases to be exchanged in store, and confirmed faults may receive an exchange after assessment.
Other year-round store exchange fees, stock guarantees and price-difference handling are unpublished; ask TK Maxx before choosing a replacement.
What TK Maxx Won’t Take Back
TK Maxx’s voluntary exclusions, unless faulty, are:
- Perishables.
- Jewellery worn in a piercing.
- Unsealed hygiene-protected items.
- Customisable goods.
Gift cards cannot be returned or exchanged for cash. No separate sale/clearance return rule is published; follow the standard policy, while statutory sale-goods rights remain.
TK Maxx publishes no universal manuals/accessories checklist. Ask about missing components before returning; packaging, tags and named category certificates remain explicit requirements.
Cancelling a TK Maxx Gift Card Bought Online
Voucher Express sells TK Maxx/Homesense gift cards online and by phone. Under its physical-card and eGift terms, unspent orders can be cancelled within 14 days of purchase via tkmaxx@voucherexpress.net or 0371 384 1013.
The supplier initiates the original-payment refund within 14 days of the request; no need to post the physical card back. This separate seller and clock do not govern faulty merchandise.
Faulty, Damaged or Wrong Items: TK Maxx’s Route and Your Rights
TK Maxx’s order help recommends taking faulty purchases to a store with the despatch note for assessment; confirmed faults receive a refund or exchange. Excessive wear, misuse and malicious damage are excluded.
For arrival damage, TK Maxx suggests a store refund or its Contact Us form with order number, item details and photos. Use that form for wrong items too. For £499.99+ post-only items, ask for instructions before visiting. Prepaid faulty labels, reimbursement procedures and large-item fault collection are unpublished: contact TK Maxx before paying for an expensive return.
Statutory rights are separate. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, sections 19–24, generally gives a 30-day short-term right to reject faulty goods, starting after ownership/possession transfer, delivery and necessary installation are complete. Notify TK Maxx clearly; perishables can have shorter periods, and repair/replacement can pause the clock.
Repair or replacement rights can remain afterwards, at the retailer’s necessary cost, within reasonable time and without significant inconvenience; later remedies depend on statutory conditions. For valid rejection, TK Maxx bears reasonable return costs except your cost of personally returning goods to where you took physical possession.
A rejection refund is due without undue delay and within 14 days beginning when TK Maxx agrees entitlement, using the same payment method unless expressly agreed otherwise, without a refund fee. GOV.UK confirms alternative purchase evidence and sale-goods rights, while ordinary shop purchases have no general legal change-of-mind refund right. The voluntary 28 days does not cap faulty-goods rights.
Cancelling an Online Order Within 14 Days
The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulations 28–35, allow eligible online cancellations by the end of 14 days after receipt, using the last goods received for split deliveries. A clear statement suffices; TK Maxx publishes customerservice@tjxeurope.com for cancellation notices. The right does not cover every item: the regulations exclude, for example, goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised, goods liable to deteriorate rapidly, and sealed goods unsuitable for return for health-protection or hygiene reasons once unsealed after delivery. That legal list is not the same as TK Maxx’s voluntary exclusions, and fault rights apply either way.
Send or hand goods back without undue delay, within 14 days after notifying. TK Maxx offers a free store route for eligible goods; direct postage is normally yours if properly informed, unless it agrees to pay. Full cancellation includes standard outbound delivery, excluding faster-delivery extras.
TK Maxx’s cancellation summary asks for unused goods in original packaging, reserves refusal and measures reimbursement from receipt. The regulations go further than TK Maxx’s summary: inspection like a shop is allowed; excess handling can justify a diminished-value deduction. If TK Maxx has not offered to collect the goods, the refund is due without undue delay and no later than 14 days after it receives them or you supply evidence of sending them back, whichever happens first, to the original payment method unless expressly agreed otherwise. Keep goods as new where possible, and send your proof of postage to TK Maxx if you want that earlier trigger to apply.
Example: assume one eligible, non-exempt order arrives together on 28 October 2026, cancellation information was properly provided and no special circumstances apply. Notify by 11 November 2026; if notifying that day, send or hand back by 25 November 2026. This statutory calculation does not settle TK Maxx’s voluntary deadline.
Return Policy TK Maxx Shoppers Get Wrong: 6 Costly Mistakes
TK Maxx return decisions can fail when shoppers overlook these conditions:
- Counting from delivery: official online pages use different starts; count from ordering for safety.
- Relying on Treasure: the card/account is not purchase proof; find the receipt.
- Taking a £499.99+ online item to a store: use its prepaid postal label.
- Returning (RE)FOUND elsewhere or removing its red tag: keep the tag and use the original store.
- Expecting a January cash refund: festive relief is exchange/gift card; refunds keep the 28-day rule.
- Discarding paperwork and posting evidence: retain both, or use the documented lost-note postal substitute.
The online start remains unresolved; postal deadline action and a separate festive purchase cutoff are unpublished. Legal passages draw on original official legislation and GOV.UK guidance, not a consolidated legal review. Read how we check retailer policies.
FAQ
Can I Return TK Maxx Underwear or Earrings?
TK Maxx excludes unsealed hygiene-protected items and jewellery worn in a piercing unless faulty. That wording does not create a blanket ban on all underwear, earrings or opened products. Keep hygiene seals intact for a change-of-mind return and check the item’s condition against the published exclusions.
Will TK Maxx Refund My Delivery Charge?
TK Maxx does not refund original delivery or return costs under its ordinary voluntary policy. On a qualifying full statutory cancellation, standard outbound delivery is refunded, excluding the extra paid for faster delivery. Cancellation terms distinguish that entitlement from the postage normally payable to send goods back.
Can I Return a TK Maxx Sale or Clearance Item?
TK Maxx publishes no separate sale or clearance return window or blanket final-sale rule in its general policy. Use the standard requirements and ask about any item-specific conditions before relying on a return. Sale goods retain statutory rights, as GOV.UK’s refunds guidance confirms; a discount does not remove those rights.
Does Treasure Membership Give Me Longer to Return?
TK Maxx’s Treasure terms and FAQs publish no extended return window or return-fee benefit. Plan around the standard policy rather than expecting membership to extend it. A Treasure card or online account is also expressly excluded as proof of purchase: keep the receipt or despatch note.
How Do I Contact TK Maxx About a Return?
Use TK Maxx’s Contact Us form for return queries; its 5–7-working-day response aim is not a refund timeline. Cancellation notices can go to customerservice@tjxeurope.com. The TK Maxx return policy pages publish no merchandise-returns phone number; Voucher Express’s number above is specifically for its gift-card orders.
