Zara Return Policy UK: 30 Days, £2.95 Drop-Off and No Receipt

The Zara return policy in the UK gives you 30 days to return items bought directly from Zara in original condition with all labels attached, counted from shipping for online and app orders or from purchase in a store. Store returns are free, including online orders; drop-off costs £2.95 per return request, deducted from your refund.

Key facts

  • Online/app returns count from shipping; Zara’s terms say receipt of the Shipping Confirmation. Store purchases count from purchase.
  • Store returns are free; HOME items can also go to Zara Home. Drop-off costs £2.95 per request.
  • Zara QR, an E-Ticket or the phone number supplied at purchase can replace a paper receipt.
  • Standard refunds use the original payment method. Parcel returns are processed within 72 hours of reaching Zara; bank receipt can take up to 14 days.
  • Zara had published no Christmas 2026 return extension for the UK as of 28 October 2026.

Read Zara’s return instructions, open account Returns, find a store or contact Zara through chat or WhatsApp. For other retailers, browse our UK return-policy guides.

How Long Is the Zara Return Window?

Zara’s returns help page counts 30 days from shipping online or purchase in store; the purchase terms, section 17, say receipt of the Shipping Confirmation. The pages word it differently: count from the shipping date shown in that email and check account Returns or your order email for the order’s deadline.

Zara does not publish inclusive counting, cut-off times or the ordinary clock for split shipments. Avoid calculating a last-minute deadline from delivery. Returns must stay in the purchase market; if you ordered from the US site, use our Zara US return-policy guide.

Do You Have to Post It by Day 30 or Must It Arrive?

Zara does not specify an ordinary post-by, carrier-scan or warehouse-arrival deadline. Its help page says to manage the return before the deadline; section 17 of the purchase terms says timely cancellation notice through WhatsApp or webchat within 30 days of receiving the Shipping Confirmation is sufficient.

Create the request and drop off with days to spare. Near the limit, message Zara before day 30, ask when the goods must be sent and keep the reply. Zara does not say that creating a request extends the time to send the parcel.

What Happens If You Miss the 30 Days?

Zara may accept a late change-of-mind return at its discretion; an accepted late return is refunded by Voucher under its purchase terms. Items faulty when bought fall outside that Voucher rule; use the faulty-goods route below.

Does Zara Extend Returns for Christmas 2026?

Zara had published no Christmas 2026 extension on its UK pages as of 28 October 2026. Zara may announce one later; check its UK returns page and your order before relying on one. Until confirmed, use the ordinary 30 days.

Does Zara Charge for Returns?

Zara store returns are free, including online orders; ordinary drop-off returns cost £2.95 per return request, deducted from the refund. Zara’s returns page does not describe that charge as per item or per parcel.

A restocking fee and separate charges for extra parcels or repeated requests are not listed. Check the request’s fee. Bulky HOME collection and eligible exchange originals have no extra cost. A self-arranged courier is at your cost and risk, and freight-collect or cash-on-delivery costs may be charged back under the terms.

Example: Assume one eligible £50 item, a full merchandise refund, one drop-off request and no other deductions or delivery refund. Drop-off produces £50 − £2.95 = £47.05; a free store return produces £50.00. Travel costs are separate. To compare another high-street chain’s methods, read our Next return-policy guide.

Is the Original Delivery Charge Refunded?

Zara’s terms reimburse original delivery when statutory cancellation is timely and every item in the relevant parcel is returned. Regulation 34 covers basic standard delivery; the extra cost of a delivery upgrade need not be refunded.

Zara publishes no delivery-refund entitlement for partial voluntary returns or later change-of-mind returns outside that cancellation period. Check before including delivery in your expected refund.

How to Return a Zara Order

Choose a method for your purchase channel and product using Zara’s return instructions; follow the order-specific label and location instructions.

Returning to a Zara store

Zara stores accept online and store purchases free; HOME items can also go to Zara Home.

  1. Use the UK store finder.
  2. Take eligible items with labels and any required product packaging.
  3. Show Zara QR, your receipt or the E-Ticket digitally or printed; a linked purchase phone number is another route.

An in-store device order paid at the till must return to a store. If paid online, it can use a store or the website/app route.

Returning at a drop-off point

Drop-off is for online/app purchases and costs £2.95 per return request.

  1. Open Returns in your account, or use the order-email link as a guest.
  2. Select the items. Several orders may share one shipment: select each order’s items and declare the package count.
  3. Choose a drop-off option. Available carriers appear in the request; Zara publishes no universal UK carrier list.
  4. Follow the emailed instructions: print a supplied label, or use the barcode/QR route without printing.
  5. Pack and seal the items. A replacement outer box is allowed, subject to product packaging rules.
  6. Leave the receipt out; Zara says none is needed inside the parcel.
  7. Keep your drop-off proof.

Zara does not say that combining orders consolidates separate request fees.

Collection for bulky Zara Home items

Zara offers collection at no extra cost for bulky HOME items unsuitable for drop-off, under section 17.2(c) of its terms.

  1. Contact Zara by WhatsApp or webchat to arrange collection.
  2. Keep the item in original condition, in its sealed original packaging.
  3. Follow Zara’s collection instructions.

This route does not cover ordinary clothing.

Sending it with your own courier

Zara’s terms permit a self-arranged carrier for online returns at your cost and risk.

  1. Check section 17.2 and the order instructions before booking.
  2. Package eligible goods securely and pay the carriage yourself.
  3. Keep dispatch evidence.

Do not send freight-collect or cash-on-delivery: Zara may charge those costs back.

Can You Return to Zara Without a Receipt?

Often yes, if Zara can link the purchase to you. Its store-receipt instructions provide alternatives to a paper receipt:

  1. Linked phone number: give the same number you supplied when buying at the till.
  2. Zara QR or E-Ticket: find the linked e-receipt through the app or mobile website account, as explained in My Zara QR.
  3. Receipt recovery: use Zara’s official E-Ticket page. Have an item reference, the credit/debit/gift-card number used to pay and the purchase date. Enter card details only on Zara’s official page; StoreReturners does not request them.

Online returns use the account or order-email record; no paper receipt goes in the parcel. For an unlinked cash purchase with a lost receipt, Zara publishes no voluntary refund route, nor an ID-only or bank-statement-only route. Ask Zara what it can retrieve before travelling. Bank statements or packaging can support legal claims under GOV.UK guidance; that does not establish ordinary change-of-mind eligibility.

Returning a Zara gift

Zara’s Gift Receipt help directs store-bought gifts to a store for a Voucher. Online gifts can return in store for a Voucher Receipt or through the website for an emailed Voucher.

The gift-receipt help says Vouchers do not expire; Zara’s purchase terms, physical-store appendix, instead say three years or until the balance is used. The pages word it differently. Treat the Voucher as potentially expiring, use it well within three years and ask Zara through chat or WhatsApp if expiry matters.

Gift Card payments have separate refund destinations below.

Condition Rules: Labels, Wear and Packaging

Zara requires original condition and all labels attached. Its terms, section 17.1, exclude washing, soiling, damage, alterations and wear beyond trying on.

Zara’s terms say handling beyond what a shop allows can reduce the refund for lost value; they do not describe it as grounds for refusal. A replacement shipping box is allowed if securely sealed, but it does not replace the category-specific packaging requirements below.

Items Zara Won’t Take Back, or Only Sealed

Zara’s special return conditions distinguish departments and packaging. The purchase terms add cancellation exclusions.

Category Zara’s rule What to keep
Swimwear Hygiene sticker must remain Sticker
Women’s underwear Original condition with bag/protective sticker Bag/protective sticker
Men’s underwear Excluded Fault rights remain separate
Kids’ underwear Excluded except socks, tights, tops, bodysuits and vests in original packaging Original packaging for exceptions
Accessories Original bag or cardboard intact Bag/cardboard
Fragrances and candles Sealed original packaging Seal and packaging
Cosmetics Sealed original packaging and original condition; Standard Procedure excluded Seal and packaging
HOME Original condition, sealed original packaging Sealed packaging
Packs (any department) Return the whole pack; items cannot be returned separately Every item in the pack
Re{form} Zara by John Galliano; special packaging Original packaging; accompanying accessories in the same condition Packaging and accessories
Magazines Excluded Fault rights remain separate
Personalised/made-to-specification Excluded from cancellation Order specifications for any dispute
Unsealed audio/video/software; unsealed health/hygiene goods Excluded from cancellation Seals for change-of-mind eligibility

An unused Gift Card has a 30-day return period; Zara.com returns do not require posting the card. Zara’s Gift Card terms, section 17 start that period at purchase for physical cards bought in store and for virtual cards kept in your account, at the Shipping Confirmation for physical cards ordered online, and at dispatch for virtual cards sent to someone else; the terms in force when the card was bought apply. Zara publishes no separate sale-item window or universal final-sale rule; check the item rather than assuming unconditional eligibility. These are change-of-mind restrictions: faulty goods follow the rights section below.

TikTok Shop and Pre-Owned purchases

TikTok Shop purchases follow TikTok Shop’s terms; Zara’s purchase terms treat goods from that channel sent to Zara as erroneous returns. Use the purchase platform’s route.

Pre-Owned peer sales sit outside this direct-sales policy. Zara’s Second Hand help publishes no current seller-specific return or dispute rules; check your transaction’s terms rather than applying the direct-sale refund timetable below.

Zara Refunds: How Long Do They Take?

Zara processes carrier returns within 72 hours of arrival at its facilities, then emails confirmation. Its refund help gives up to 14 days after the return for bank-dependent receipt of the money. The 72 hours starts at Zara, not at drop-off.

Standard refunds go to the original payment method; store staff advise an alternative if that is impossible.

Channel Return window Zara processing Bank/provider posting
Online/drop-off 30 days from shipping Within 72 hours of arrival; confirmation email follows Up to 14 days after return, bank-dependent
Store purchase returned in store 30 days from purchase Not published Not published

If the money has not arrived after the stated bank-dependent period, show the refund confirmation to your bank. Store processing is not promised to be instant. Legal cancellation has a separate timetable: Zara’s terms say refund within 14 days of notice, but allow withholding until goods or dispatch evidence arrive, whichever is earlier.

Partial refunds from several boxes

Zara can process separate boxes at different times, producing staged refunds and separate confirmations. Its partial-refund FAQ explains this, so compare each email with the items in that box before treating a partial payment as a final shortfall.

Refunds to a lost card or a Zara Gift Card

Zara directs online shoppers who no longer hold the payment card to their bank. For Gift Card payments, Zara’s help says online returns replenish the card and email a virtual copy; its Gift Card terms, section 11, instead say a Voucher Card is emailed when the original card no longer exists. The pages word it differently, so ask Zara through chat or WhatsApp which applies before relying on either. Store refunds use the original Gift Card or a Voucher; staff offer alternatives if the card is lost. Exchange requests have different payment restrictions.

If Zara does not resolve a refund problem

If a confirmed refund has not appeared after Zara’s 14-day bank period, show the confirmation email to your bank. For a missing, short or disputed refund, contact Zara via chat or WhatsApp, with:

  • Your order or return-request number.
  • Confirmation emails.
  • Drop-off or dispatch proof.

Keep copies so Zara can trace what was returned. Zara’s terms, section 31, name RetailADR as the escalation route once Zara’s complaints procedure has ended without resolution.

How Do Zara Exchanges Work?

Zara offers free size/colour exchanges in store or by website/app request, subject to eligibility. Its exchange help applies the same 30-day channel clock, condition and purchase-market rules. HOME cannot be exchanged.

Online exchanges are unavailable for:

  • PayPal, Gift Card, Apple Pay, Android Pay or Diners payments; the help also lists iDEAL, Bancontact and P24, which may not be offered in the UK.
  • One-size products or unavailable items.
  • Orders with a Gift Receipt.

Use the website/app exchange option. Zara’s exchange help allows two requests at once, five items each; the terms, section 17.3, set the limit at two simultaneous requests for the same order and describe a size exchange as the same item at a current price at least equal to what you paid. Originals must reach Zara within 14 calendar days of the request, or Zara may charge for the replacement. This explicit arrival rule applies to exchanges, not ordinary refunds.

The terms, section 17.3, provide a free prepaid return label for exchange originals and no extra delivery charge for the replacement. For another fashion retailer’s approach, see our H&M return-policy guide. If the item is faulty, use the assessment route instead.

Faulty Zara Items and Your UK Consumer Rights

Zara’s faulty-item help directs online shoppers with faults, including defects found after use, to contact Zara or visit a store. Store purchases go to a store for assessment. Contact Zara through WhatsApp or webchat, provide proof such as the shipping E-Ticket and follow its store/drop-off instructions. Accepted defective returns receive a full refund including delivery to the original payment method under section 17.4 of the terms.

Separate legal rights include:

  • Distance cancellation: the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 generally allow notice within 14 days after delivery of eligible goods, or the last goods for an order delivered separately. Send goods back without undue delay, within 14 days after notice; disclosed direct return costs can fall on the shopper.
  • Cancellation refund: regulation 34 generally requires reimbursement within 14 days of goods or earlier dispatch evidence where collection was not offered; collection-offer cases use 14 days after notice.
  • Faulty goods: Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 22 generally gives a 30-day short-term right to reject, starting after the relevant ownership, delivery and installation conditions are met. Section 20 places reasonable return costs on the trader, except personal travel to the original purchase/collection location.
  • Later faults: GOV.UK says repair/replacement may apply; within six months the retailer must show the fault was absent at purchase. Ordinary wear or shopper-caused damage is separate.

GOV.UK also explains that in-store change of mind has no automatic legal refund right and sale goods retain statutory rights. Zara’s shipping-based 30 days and delivery-based legal cancellation are different clocks; hygiene and tag rules do not remove fault remedies. This guide explains published rules, not legal advice on a specific claim. See how StoreReturners checks policies.

Zara Return Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money

Zara return policy costs and deadlines depend on the route. Check these points before submitting:

  • Paying £2.95 unnecessarily: compare a free store return with drop-off, allowing for travel costs.
  • Assuming one parcel means one fee: combined orders are allowed; fee consolidation across requests is not confirmed.
  • Removing protection: keep swimwear stickers and sealed HOME packaging for change-of-mind eligibility.
  • Missing an exchange arrival deadline: originals must reach Zara within 14 calendar days of requesting the exchange.
  • Posting TikTok Shop goods to Zara: use the purchase platform’s terms.
  • Waiting until day 30: the ordinary physical-return milestone is unpublished; request and drop off early, or contact Zara before the limit.

FAQ

Can I return Zara items bought abroad to a UK store?

No: Zara requires returns in the market or region where the purchase was made. A UK store is therefore not the supported route for an overseas purchase under the published return conditions. Check the original market’s instructions and contact Zara there before arranging shipment or travelling.

Do I need to print a Zara return label?

Only if Zara supplies a label requiring printing. The return instructions say barcode or QR returns need no printout. Follow the email for your request and chosen drop-off option rather than assuming every UK location supports the same format. No receipt needs to go inside the parcel.

Can I return a Zara Gift Card?

Yes, if unused. Zara’s Gift Card help gives a 30-day return period, and a Zara.com return does not require posting the card. Its Gift Card terms count from purchase for store-bought cards and virtual cards kept in your account, from the Shipping Confirmation for physical cards ordered online, and from dispatch for virtual cards sent to someone else.

Can I return Zara swimwear if I’ve tried it on?

Zara requires the hygiene sticker to remain in place and the item to meet its original-condition rules. Trying on does not remove those conditions; avoid wear beyond a shop-style inspection. The category policy governs change-of-mind eligibility, while a fault should be raised separately through Zara’s faulty-item route.

Does having a Zara account get me longer returns?

The Zara return policy publishes no account or loyalty-tier extension, fee waiver or category exemption in the UK return conditions. An account helps access Returns and linked purchase records; it does not establish extra eligibility. Plan around the ordinary deadline and check any order-specific information with Zara before relying on different terms.
