Bloomingdale’s Return Policy: 30 Days, Exceptions and Refunds

Bloomingdale’s return policy gives 30 days from receipt for most items sold by Bloomingdale’s, unused and unworn with original tags, returned by UPS (online orders) or at a full-line store, refunded to the original payment with proof of purchase. CHANEL, Gucci, pre-owned jewelry, rugs and furniture follow special rules; third-party sellers handle their own returns. Read the official policy.

Key facts

  • Most direct merchandise has a 30-day window from receipt. Top of the List and Top of the List Unlocked members have unlimited windows on most saleable items, with special-department exclusions.
  • Eligible US online returns get a free UPS label, excluding gift cards, furniture, mattresses, mirrors, lamps, wall art and Michael Aram 25th Anniversary Sculptures. Original shipping is nonrefundable.
  • Eligible online orders can go to full-line stores, never Bloomingdale’s Outlet.
  • A store can issue no-receipt merchandise credit at the lowest selling price in the previous 180 days.
  • Direct refunds are issued immediately after store processing or generally 5–10 days after facility receipt by mail, followed by 3–5 business days for bank posting.

This guide is part of our US store return guides.

How Long Do You Have to Return to Bloomingdale’s?

Bloomingdale’s gives most direct purchases online, in its app or at full-line stores 30 days from receipt. Brand/category exceptions, registry gifts and the two highest Loyallist tiers have different clocks.

When does the 30-day clock start and stop?

Bloomingdale’s main policy starts the clock at receipt. The published instructions do not define calendar versus business days, inclusive counting, cutoff time, or whether initiation, a UPS scan or warehouse arrival meets the deadline.

Hand the parcel to UPS several days before day 30; creating a label alone does not establish compliance. For a department-store comparison, see Macy’s return policy.

Who gets unlimited returns at Bloomingdale’s?

Only Top of the List and Top of the List Unlocked receive unlimited return windows on most saleable items, according to the Loyallist help page. The benefits footnote retains special-department exclusions.

The program terms set annual net-purchase thresholds at $5,000 and $15,000 respectively; returns reduce net purchases. Treatment after status loss, purchases made at a lower tier and exact seller interactions are not published. Confirm eligibility before relying on an extended window.

Registry gifts: 365 days after the occasion

Bloomingdale’s registry policy allows almost any registry gift back in saleable condition within 365 days after the occasion, for store credit. This does not extend every online order to a year.

Use the registry purchase list, receipt or proof-of-purchase label. Without any of those, credit uses the lowest selling price in the previous 180 days. Bloomingdale’s recommends a Registry Concierge appointment.

Is there a 2026 holiday return extension?

As of October 28, 2026, Bloomingdale’s had not published a 2026 holiday extension, eligible purchase-date range or extended deadline on its policy, Return Center or returns help index. Follow the standard rules unless an official notice for your purchase says otherwise; we will update this guide if one appears.

What Condition Do Returns Need to Be In?

Bloomingdale’s requires items to be unused, unworn and undamaged, with original tags and packaging. Bloomingdale’s decides whether merchandise is saleable under its return requirements.

These items must also remain unopened and sealed: strollers, car seats, highchairs, playpens, bouncers, changing tables, dressers, cribs, bassinets, food processors and LYMA products.

Return any gift with purchase alongside the qualifying item; otherwise the gift’s value may reduce the refund or the return may be refused. No relaxed opened/used-cosmetics allowance is published, so the general unused rule applies. Beauty shoppers comparing retailers can consult Sephora’s return policy.

Items Bloomingdale’s Won’t Take Back

Bloomingdale’s final-sale exclusions, gift-card FAQ and furniture policy cover:

  • The Final Offer items (no returns or exchanges).
  • Altered, customized, monogrammed or personalized goods.
  • Food and beverages.
  • Sexual wellness products.
  • Breast pumps sold directly by Bloomingdale’s; seller-sold pumps have a separate rule below.
  • Gift cards unless full value remains intact and they are returned in store.
  • Clearance or As Is furniture and mattresses.
  • Special-order furniture more than seven days after the sale date.

Designer merchandise also needs a brand-specific check before returning.

Designer, Pre-Owned Jewelry and Rug Rules

Bloomingdale’s Special Return Guidelines restrict both deadlines and locations. “Any store” is unsafe advice for these categories.

Brand/category Window and start event Where to return Special condition
CHANEL handbags, accessories, ready-to-wear, women’s shoes 14 days from store purchase Not published; ask before traveling Markdowns not returnable
Gucci 30 days from store purchase or online delivery Handbags, shoes, jewelry: purchase location Not published
Saint Laurent Store: 30 days from purchase; online: ship within 30 days of delivery 59th Street, Roosevelt Field, Century City or South Coast Plaza accessory boutiques; online mail Use the channel-specific route
REBAG Store: 14 days from purchase; online start differs by page (below) White Plains, NY; Short Hills, NJ; Boca Raton Town Center, FL; Fashion Valley, CA boutiques; online mail to seller Online guideline specifies dispatch within 14 days of delivery
myGemma / pre-owned fine jewelry Store: 14 days from purchase; online start differs by page (below) In-store route; online seller instructions Check purchase-date reading below
Trunk shows 14 days; start event not published Purchase location Confirm start event before waiting
Area rugs 14 days after delivery Store purchases: purchase location Original saleable condition

Fine jewelry may require longer inspection before refund, with no published maximum, according to the store refund help page. Shoppers weighing designer purchases elsewhere can check how Saks Fifth Avenue handles returns.

Pre-owned jewelry: purchase date or delivery date?

Bloomingdale’s main policy counts 14 days from purchase for pre-owned merchandise. Its special guidelines and seller page instead count online myGemma/REBAG from delivery; REBAG’s online instructions specify dispatch within 14 days of delivery.

The pages word it differently. Count from purchase, the earlier and stricter reading, and confirm your order’s instructions with customer service.

How to Return a Bloomingdale’s Order

Bloomingdale’s describes three routes for eligible online orders: UPS label, UPS label-free QR code or full-line store. Its help page also describes paid pickup in three cities, subject to availability.

Return by mail with a UPS label

Follow Bloomingdale’s return-label instructions:

  1. Sign in through the Return Center, or use guest Order Lookup / Purchases & Returns.
  2. Select items, return reason and refund option, then submit.
  3. Print the label and confirmation.
  4. Enclose the confirmation in the parcel.
  5. Attach the single-use UPS label.
  6. Drop the parcel at UPS.

Keep the drop-off receipt or tracking as your checkpoint. Never reuse a label for another parcel.

Use a UPS label-free QR code

Bloomingdale’s return instructions describe choosing label-free at step 3, submitting, then showing the emailed QR code at The UPS Store. Package the items first: label-free still requires a box.

Return an online order to a store

Eligible online purchases can go to a full-line store, subject to brand and seller restrictions. Bloomingdale’s Outlet cannot accept online or full-line purchases.

The Outlet window and mail-back route for purchases carried home from a store are not published; take ordinary store purchases to a full-line store. Off-price shoppers can compare Nordstrom Rack’s return policy.

Can you schedule a return pickup?

Bloomingdale’s pickup help page describes Deliv in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco for a flat $6.95. Current bookability for a particular order is unverified.

The described service covers online and store search-and-send orders, excluding buy-online-pickup-in-store orders, furniture, mattresses and packages over 50 lb or 40 × 24 × 12 inches. A signature and printed label are required. Multi-parcel pricing and how the charge is collected are not published; confirm these before booking.

Can you exchange instead of returning?

Bloomingdale’s publishes no universal direct-merchandise exchange window or mail-exchange process. Ask a full-line store, or return and reorder; third-party seller items cannot be exchanged. Final-sale items cannot be exchanged either.

Does Bloomingdale’s Charge for Returns?

Most eligible US online returns get a free UPS label, but Bloomingdale’s does not promise every return is free. Label exclusions are gift cards, furniture, mattresses, mirrors, lamps, wall art and Michael Aram 25th Anniversary Sculptures.

Charge When it applies Amount Source
Original shipping/handling Ordinary return Nonrefundable Return instructions
Label-excluded categories Listed above Not published Label help
Deliv pickup Eligible, available pickup $6.95; multi-parcel basis unclear Pickup help
Furniture preference return Eligible preference return Budget for 15%; wording differs below Furniture policy
Furniture collection (customer pick-up) Collected by delivery company Area-dependent; quoted by an associate Furniture policy
Furniture delivery Preference return Delivery fee retained; protection plan refunded Furniture policy
Mattress reselection Comfort reselection 15–50%, $110 pickup, new delivery fee unpublished Mattress policy
Loyallist points deduction Insufficient points/Rewards after return Refund may fall by $0.01 per 2 points Program terms
Standard-merchandise restocking General merchandise Not published Main policy

The dedicated furniture policy says 15% will be assessed; the special guidelines say it may apply. Budget for 15% and confirm the order’s charge with the furniture team. Fee-free store returns and separate marketplace shipping charges are also not published.

Can You Return to Bloomingdale’s Without a Receipt?

Yes, a store can accept an eligible no-receipt return for merchandise credit at the lowest selling price in the previous 180 days; acceptance is not guaranteed. The dedicated FAQ requires your name, phone number and address, while How to Make a Return says credit may go to a Bloomingdale’s account or merchandise credit and name/address may be needed. Expect merchandise credit, bring those details and ask the register which credit form your transaction produces.

Bloomingdale’s FAQ says the details collected may be used for security and marketing purposes, subject to its privacy policy.

Photo ID requirements and card, phone or Loyallist purchase lookup are not published; do not rely on them as receipt substitutes.

Example: Assume an accepted, eligible no-proof return originally cost $200, with a hypothetical lowest prior-180-day selling price of $120. Merchandise credit would be $120, or $80 less than the purchase price.

Returning a gift from Bloomingdale’s

Bloomingdale’s gift FAQ provides merchandise credit with a receipt or proof-of-purchase label; without proof, the lowest prior-180-day price applies. Registry gifts follow the separate registry section above.

When Will You Get Your Bloomingdale’s Refund?

Bloomingdale’s issues eligible direct store refunds immediately after processing; most direct mail refunds take 5–10 days after facility receipt, then banks need another 3–5 business days. Ordinary refunds go to original payment with proof; gifts and Rewards have separate treatment.

Stage In store: direct purchase By mail: direct purchase Third-party seller
Return window Most: 30 days from receipt Most: 30 days from receipt Most: 30 days from receipt
Retailer/seller processing Immediate after store processing 5–10 days after facility receipt; day unit undefined Conflicting: 3–10 business days / 3–14 business days / 5–10 unqualified days after seller receipt
Bank posting Another 3–5 business days, bank dependent Another 3–5 business days, bank dependent Not published

See mail refund instructions and store refund timing. Transit time before facility receipt and maximum fine-jewelry inspection time are not published.

How Loyallist rewards and points change your refund

Bloomingdale’s FAQ says the Reward-paid portion is reissued as a Loyallist Reward, usable the next day. Under the program terms, returns remove earned points; insufficient points reduce outstanding Rewards by $0.01 per 2 points, then may reduce the refund at that rate.

An earned promotional gift card’s value/refund can shrink if returns drop qualifying spending below the threshold. Payment made with a promotional gift card is refunded to a mailed gift card.

Third-Party Seller Returns at Bloomingdale’s

Look for “Sold and shipped by” in product details or your bag. Bloomingdale’s seller policy gives most seller items 30 days from receipt, with proof, unused/unworn/undamaged condition, tags and packaging.

Start through the return tool so merchandise goes to the seller; bHelpful can forward it. The seller decides acceptance and may decline or send merchandise back. No exchanges or price adjustments are available: return and reorder with customer-service assistance.

Seller breast pumps must be unopened in original packaging. Seller pre-owned luxury items must be unaltered, with tags attached, all original paperwork, the receipt and original packaging.

The seller page says processing takes 3–10 business days after seller receipt; Bloomingdale’s pages word it differently in the special guidelines, at 3–14 business days, and return instructions, at 5–10 days without a defined unit. Allow up to 14 business days after seller receipt and check binding seller details in your order; the separate bank-posting interval is unpublished. Store forwarding does not produce an immediate refund.

Bloomingdale’s Furniture and Mattress Returns

Bloomingdale’s dedicated policy requires contacting customer service or a sales associate within 3 days of delivery for an as-new furniture preference return. Call 1-800-323-7857. Budget for the 15% restocking fee discussed above; original delivery is retained and the protection plan refunded.

Furniture you picked up yourself must be returned or exchanged at the original pickup location; if the delivery company collects it instead, an associate quotes an area-dependent pickup charge.

Outdoor furniture bought or delivered on or after June 27 is excluded from preference returns. The year and annual reset are not published; ask the furniture team how the cutoff applies to your order.

Mattress comfort reselection fees

Bloomingdale’s allows notification to a sales professional within 365 days after delivery for credit toward one mattress comfort reselection. This is not a cash refund.

Time after delivery Reselection fee on original price
First 3 months 15%
Months 3–6 20%
Months 6–9 30%
Months 9–12 50%

Exact month-boundary counting is unpublished. Original delivery is nonrefundable; a new delivery fee applies, amount unpublished, plus $110 pickup, waived for a manufacturer defect.

Example: Assume an eligible $1,000 mattress is reselected in the middle of month four, without a manufacturer defect. The 20% fee is $200; adding $110 pickup gives $310 in specified charges, plus the unpublished new delivery fee.

Special orders, clearance and As Is furniture

Special-order furniture requires a 33% deposit. Cancel within seven days of the sale date for a deposit refund; afterward, cancellation, return and exchange are prohibited and the deposit is forfeited.

Clearance and As Is furniture/mattresses cannot be returned or exchanged. The policy’s manufacturer-defect exchange route requires authorization and an irreparable defect, with no exchange fee; check clearance/As Is restrictions before relying on it. Warranty disclaimers do not eliminate legal rights, and delivery problems need prompt reporting.

Damaged, Defective or Missing Deliveries

Bloomingdale’s delivery-issue procedure requires reporting damaged, defective, wrong, missing or undelivered merchandise within 30 days of the tracking delivery date. Bloomingdale’s says late reporting prevents its refund; that describes its procedure, not the removal of legal rights.

Call 1-800-777-0000 or use customer-service chat; furniture/bedding uses 1-800-323-7857. Get issue-specific instructions first. Universal faulty-item label waivers, shipping refunds and later-defect remedies are not published.

Federal protections are separate:

  • The FTC Cooling-Off Rule does not cover entirely online purchases or ordinary purchases completed at permanent stores.
  • For delayed shipment, sellers must let you either agree to the delay or cancel for a full refund. Unshipped orders require a full refund rather than store credit under the FTC’s non-shipment guidance.
  • Certain credit-card billing errors, including non-delivery, require a written dispute within 60 days after the first erroneous statement is sent. Contact the issuer; quality disputes differ, and this does not extend the store return window.

Bloomingdale’s Return Policy Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming ordinary purchases have a one-year window: most have 30 days from receipt.
  • Printing a label on day 30 and treating the deadline as met.
  • Taking Gucci bags to the wrong location or missing CHANEL’s 14-day store window.
  • Taking online/full-line purchases to an Outlet.
  • Omitting the free gift from a qualifying return.
  • Expecting immediate credit when a store forwards seller merchandise.

Bloomingdale’s official pages word four details differently: no-receipt credit, seller processing time, the pre-owned start date and furniture fee certainty. Each is shown above with the safer reading. This guide is based on Bloomingdale’s published pages; order-specific seller terms and live pickup booking are not covered there. See how we check each policy; confirm these details with customer service before relying on them.

FAQ

Can I return a Bloomingdale’s gift card?

Bloomingdale’s allows a gift card itself to be returned in store only while its full value remains intact, according to its gift-card FAQ. The original buyer receives the refund. This is separate from returning merchandise that was paid for with a gift card; do not assume a partly spent card qualifies.

What happens if I return an item that came with a free gift?

Bloomingdale’s requires the promotional gift to accompany the qualifying merchandise. Its gift-with-purchase rule says a missing gift may cause a deduction equal to its value or refusal of the return. Pack both together before mailing or visiting a store; the item alone may not produce the expected refund.

Can I return a Bloomingdale’s Outlet purchase at a full-line store?

Bloomingdale’s published Outlet FAQ does not establish a complete Outlet window or a clear full-line return route for Outlet purchases. Ask the purchase store before traveling. The reverse direction is explicit: online and full-line purchases cannot be returned or exchanged at Bloomingdale’s Outlet stores.

Do returns affect my Loyallist tier status?

Yes. Bloomingdale’s Loyallist terms use net purchases, so returns reduce spending counted toward the $5,000 Top of the List and $15,000 Top of the List Unlocked thresholds. The published benefit pages do not explain unlimited-window treatment after status loss or for purchases made at a lower tier; confirm before relying on that benefit.

How can I tell if an item was sold by a third-party seller?

Bloomingdale’s seller-identification FAQ directs shoppers to the “Sold and shipped by” information in product details or the shopping bag. Seller listings also show only a shipping option, with no store pickup, at checkout. Bloomingdale’s return policy gives seller merchandise a separate acceptance and refund process, even when bHelpful forwards the parcel from a store.
