Dick’s Return Policy: 90-Day Window, Exceptions and Refunds

Under the Dick’s return policy, DICK’S Sporting Goods accepts most items bought in US stores or online for 90 days, counted from the store purchase date or the original online shipment date, and DICK’S must receive the item within that window. Store purchases go back to a store; bikes, final-sale and sealed items have stricter rules.

Key facts

  • Most DICK’S, CALIA, VRST and Golf Galaxy purchases have 90 days; DICK’S Warehouse and Going, Going, Gone! outlets have 30 days.
  • Online returns run from original shipment and must reach DICK’S within the window.
  • Store purchases return to stores; eligible online orders can return in store or by mail.
  • Approved no-proof returns require valid ID and receive lowest-selling-price credit for in-store merchandise only.
  • Most refunds follow the original payment, but PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm and mixed-tender purchases receive a DICK’S gift card.

The DICK’S policy covers DICK’S, CALIA, VRST and Golf Galaxy; outlets differ. Browse more US store return guides when comparing retailers.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to DICK’S?

90 days applies to most regular-channel purchases: from purchase for store sales and original shipment for online orders. DICK’S must receive the return within that period, so opening a return request does not preserve eligibility.

The return pages we checked don’t state calendar-versus-business-day counting, day-one conventions, cutoff time zone or weekend/holiday grace. Return well before day 90 and allow mail transit. The return pages we checked also don’t state the ordinary buy-online-pickup start event; conservatively count from the earlier order/shipment date, and confirm with support.

Before buying expensive outdoor gear, compare REI’s return rules; for an existing DICK’S online order, identify its shipment date first.

When does the 90-day clock start for online orders?

DICK’S main policy starts the ordinary online window at original shipment, not delivery, and requires DICK’S to receive the item within the window.

Example: Assume an eligible regular item was ordered October 1, shipped October 3 and delivered October 8, 2026. Its window runs from October 3; no exact final day is calculated because the return pages we checked don’t state counting conventions.

DICK’S Warehouse and Going, Going, Gone! outlets: 30 days

DICK’S gives these outlets 30 days on most products. The main policy requires receipt within 30 days of purchase or original shipment for Going, Going, Gone! returns. Check the outlet’s own policy for category restrictions; Rapsodo’s method differs by selling brand, as explained below.

Is there a 2026 holiday return extension at DICK’S?

No 2026 holiday return extension, eligible purchase range or seasonal deadline appears in DICK’S official return material checked on October 28, 2026. Use the standard applicable window unless DICK’S announces otherwise; check its return-policy page before relying on extra time. Seasonal timing does not remove product restrictions.

Can You Return Opened or Used Items to DICK’S?

Sometimes. DICK’S says it may accept items that were opened, tried on or tested if they are clean, resalable and in good condition, outside the restricted categories below. Acceptance is at DICK’S discretion, so this is not a guaranteed wear-and-return trial.

The return pages we checked don’t state a universal tags-attached or shoebox requirement. Bring available packaging, tags and parts, and check the stricter category rules before opening anything.

Electronics, sealed items and massage guns

DICK’S requires electronics’ original packaging, manuals, parts and accessories. Its opened-package restrictions bar returns after opening or breaking seals on:

  • Football helmets and air beds.
  • Electronic scooters and bikes.
  • Face coverings and mouthguards.
  • Ice rinks and portable lavatories.
  • Whoop fitness trackers.

Opened Hyperice and Theragun products have 30 days, excluding refurbished products. The return pages we checked don’t state their start event or required deadline action: confirm both promptly with support, keeping your purchase proof.

Returning to DICK’S Without a Receipt

DICK’S can accept several proof formats, and support may recover a receipt. A true no-proof return, if approved, receives restricted store credit rather than an original-payment refund. Try to recover proof before asking for an ID-only return.

What counts as proof of purchase at DICK’S?

DICK’S accepts an order number, order-confirmation email, original sales receipt, packing slip or return barcode. For online returns, enter the order number and billing ZIP code in Start Your Return Here.

For a missing store receipt, call 1-877-846-9997 or use customer-service chat. Support may send a copy if available; recovery is not guaranteed.

ID returns and lowest-selling-price store credit

Approved no-proof returns receive credit at DICK’S lowest selling price, usable only for in-store merchandise. Accepted identification includes a US or Canadian driver’s license, US state ID, US military ID or US passport.

Example: Assume you paid $80, DICK’S determines the applicable lowest selling price is $60, and approves your return. You receive $60 store credit, $20 less than paid; both prices are hypothetical.

The return pages we checked don’t state the price lookback period. DICK’S records ID and return activity and can limit or deny returns even with proof.

Gift receipts and ScoreCard receipt-free returns

A DICK’S gift receipt supports a gift card or even exchange. ScoreCard advertises receipt-free returns, so check with DICK’S which membership tiers qualify and how the receipt lookup works before relying on it. The return and benefits pages we checked don’t describe card-only lookup or receipt-retention periods; keep your receipt or order email for the return steps.

How to Return to DICK’S

DICK’S routes store purchases to stores; eligible online orders can use stores or mail. Check category restrictions before selecting a method.

Return a store purchase at a DICK’S store

Bring the item, proof and the credit card or gift card used to pay to an open location using the US store locator. Before leaving, check the refund destination shown for your transaction. Mailing a store purchase is not an available route.

Return an online order at a store or curbside

Generate an in-store return barcode through Start Your Return Here, or show your order-confirmation email. Check that the order shown matches the item.

For curbside, pickup help says to call the store, dial 0 and provide the receipt or order number. Confirm local availability before traveling; do not assume every store offers curbside returns.

Mail back an online order

Follow DICK’S mail-return instructions:

  1. Start the return using your order number and billing ZIP code.
  2. Pack in original packaging with paperwork, parts and accessories.
  3. Remove old shipping labels.
  4. Enclose the completed Return Reason Form from the packing slip.
  5. Attach the supplied label and use its designated service, or pay your own carrier and retain tracking. C.O.D. packages are not accepted.

DICK’S publishes this address: DicksSportingGoods.com, Returns Department, 1314 Conklin Rd, Ste B, Conklin, NY 13748. If your return instructions show a different address or label, use those.

Check Track My Return for receipt; “Return received” confirms the warehouse milestone. Avoid shipping near day 90: arrival must fall within the window.

Oversized items delivered by freight

Call 1-877-846-9997 to arrange freight pickup. Repack all paperwork, parts and accessories, then place the item at the front door as instructed. Confirm pickup arrangements and possible charges with support; do not send freight as an ordinary parcel.

Can you return an Instacart order from DICK’S?

Yes, Instacart purchases have a 90-day in-store route with the Instacart receipt and government-issued ID. DICK’S main policy calls the refund store credit, usable for in-store merchandise; Instacart help calls it a DICK’S gift card without that restriction.

The pages word it differently: plan to spend the value in store and ask at checkout which instrument is being issued before leaving. The return pages we checked don’t give rules for other third-party sellers; confirm with the seller rather than assuming direct-order terms or costs.

Does DICK’S Charge for Return Shipping?

DICK’S pickup help advertises free mail returns on most online purchases, not every order. The return help pages we checked don’t state a general label charge, charging basis or exemptions; read your order’s label instructions before printing.

Cost or method Published rule
Store return General fee schedule: Not stated on return pages
Supplied mail label Free on most online purchases; general charge/exemptions: Not stated on return pages
Own carrier You pay shipping
Freight pickup May be at your cost; amount: Not stated on return pages
Original online shipping Not refunded
Ultra 1 DICK’S lists $250 shipping + $1,500 restocking deducted from iFIT’s reimbursement to DICK’S; shopper charge: Not stated on return pages

The return and benefits pages we checked don’t say ScoreCard shipping perks cover return labels. The return pages we checked don’t state a universal no-restocking-fee rule; confirm applicable deductions before returning.

When Will You Get Your DICK’S Refund?

DICK’S says in-store refunds to the original payment can take up to 14 business days, a single figure that does not split its processing from your bank’s. Mail credit is usually issued 2–3 weeks after receipt, including item price and sales tax; order-status help separately says within 30 days of warehouse receipt.

Clock Published timing
Return window Most regular items: 90 days; DICK’S must receive them
DICK’S processing Mail: usually 2–3 weeks after receipt; help expectation within 30 days. In-store: up to 14 business days, a combined statement with no retailer/bank split
Separate inspection stage Not stated on return pages
Bank/provider posting after issuance Not stated on return pages

The estimates are not consecutive stages to add together. After more than 14 days for an in-store refund, DICK’S says to contact your bank first, then DICK’S if unresolved. Use Track My Return; “Return received” and “Credit issued” are distinct statuses.

Where do PayPal, Klarna and gift-card refunds go?

DICK’S uses gift cards for several payment exceptions, even with proof. The refund rules distinguish:

Original payment or transaction Refund destination
Most cash, credit/debit card, DICK’S gift-card purchases Original payment form
PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm DICK’S gift card
Non-DICK’S gift cards; mixed tender DICK’S gift card
Exchanges; other original-method refunds not feasible DICK’S gift card

Support can replace an unavailable original DICK’S gift/e-gift card for the refund. A ScoreCard Reward or coupon adjusts the refund; the return pages we checked don’t give allocation or reward-reissue formulas, so confirm the amount.

Example: Assume an accepted ordinary return paid through PayPal with valid proof. DICK’S issues a gift card; no exact amount is assumed. Product restrictions still determine eligibility.

Items DICK’S Won’t Take Back

DICK’S product exclusions override the ordinary window.

Item DICK’S rule What to do instead
Trading cards Final sale Confirm before buying
Custom, personalized, special-order items Final sale Check details before ordering
Autographed collectibles/memorabilia Final sale Confirm before buying
Fuel/gasoline-requiring items Final sale Confirm suitability before buying
Gift cards Final sale Check intended recipient/amount
Airbeds Final-sale and opened-package wording coexist Treat as final sale; ask before buying
Used baseball/softball bats Not returnable; unused only Keep unused while deciding
Sealed categories listed above No returns after opening/broken seal Keep seals intact
Rapsodo DICK’S: store only Follow selling-brand instructions

For airbeds, the main policy lists final sale but separately bars opened air beds; Going, Going, Gone! also excludes airbeds. These wordings do not establish unopened eligibility. Treat airbeds as final sale and ask the store before buying if returnability matters.

For Rapsodo, DICK’S says store only; Going, Going, Gone! says mail only. Follow your selling brand’s rule and confirm its instructions before dispatch. Bikes and fitness equipment have further exceptions.

Bikes: the 24-hour size and color check

DICK’S generally excludes bike returns. Unused bikes with original tags/labels may qualify for its 24-hour size/color verification; riding/testing is not permitted, and approval is not guaranteed.

Bike arrangement 24 hours starts at
Store-assembled, bought in store Purchase
Picked up store-assembled Pickup
Shipped home, then assembled at store Pickup
Shipped home boxed, unassembled Delivery

Example: Assume two unused, tagged bikes: one collected store-assembled and one delivered boxed. The first clock starts at pickup, the second at delivery; neither guarantees acceptance.

If bike returnability decides where you buy, compare how Academy Sports handles returns.

Peloton and NordicTrack Ultra 1 treadmill returns

DICK’S directs Peloton Bike, Bike+ and treadmill buyers delivered within the last 30 days to Peloton. After more than 30 days delivered, but less than 90 days purchased, use a DICK’S store. The return pages we checked don’t clarify the exact 30-day boundary; confirm your route with support.

For NordicTrack Ultra 1, call concierge (435) 225-8093 to initiate within 30 days of delivery. Within three business days of the request, concierge schedules an inspection visit. iFIT authorizes returns at its discretion for undamaged, working machines, followed by removal; do not take the machine to DICK’S.

DICK’S policy says iFIT reimburses DICK’S minus $250 return shipping and a $1,500 restocking fee (10% of the $15,000 MSRP), $1,750 in total, an estimated 15 business days after initiation. The return pages we checked don’t say how much of that, if any, comes out of your refund, where the refund goes or when you are paid; ask concierge before scheduling the inspection.

Seven-day exchanges: pre-owned, demo, refurbished and Nike Adapt

DICK’S allows exchanges within seven days of purchase for these categories, in the condition sold and subject to approval. Ordinary shoes do not share this seven-day rule.

The category paragraph accepts usual proof formats, while the same page’s opened/used FAQ requires the original sales receipt. Keep that receipt; an order email alone may not suffice. Confirm proof with the store before traveling. Nike-direct purchases follow Nike’s own return policy.

How Do Exchanges Work at DICK’S?

DICK’S exchanges eligible store and online purchases in store, honoring the original purchase price; online-only products cannot be exchanged. For a remote online exchange, DICK’S instructions say to mail back the original, then call 1-877-846-9997 for a new order at the original price.

Exchange refunds use a DICK’S gift card where applicable. The return pages we checked don’t state fees, replacement-stock guarantees or price-difference handling: confirm these before returning. A damaged item may instead need the defect or repair route.

Damaged, Defective and Protection-Plan Returns

DICK’S damaged-item FAQ permits returns under its 90-day policy, subject to return limits. Store purchases still go to stores. Repairs go to the manufacturer or authorized service center; DICK’S can supply contacts on request.

The return pages we checked don’t state a damaged-on-arrival deadline, photo requirements, shipping waiver or exclusion overrides. Contact customer service before sending an excluded damaged item.

After a deadline, FTC guidance recommends gathering proof/warranty records, explaining the defect and requested remedy to the seller, and keeping communications; the manufacturer may be the route. The FTC Cooling-Off Rule excludes online sales and purchases at permanent stores. A protection plan has its own cancellation route.

No Sweat Protection Plans

DICK’S accepts plan returns within 30 days of purchase; a mailed item received within that period automatically returns its associated plan. After 30 days, contact Asurion online or 866-257-6545. Confirm plan handling separately from the merchandise return.

Dick’s Return Policy Mistakes to Avoid

  • Counting from delivery: ordinary online returns start at original shipment.
  • Mailing on day 89: receipt by DICK’S must fall inside the window.
  • Mailing a store purchase: take it to a store.
  • Expecting PayPal or installment-account credit: PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm refunds use DICK’S gift cards.
  • Riding a new bike: the limited 24-hour check requires an unused bike.
  • Opening restricted products: preserve helmet, mouthguard and Whoop seals; treat airbeds as final sale.

DICK’S says it can limit or deny returns. Its return material checked on October 28, 2026 doesn’t state label fees or bank posting times and shows no holiday extension. Check your order page or ask the store before relying on a deadline. See how StoreReturners checks retailer policies.

FAQ

Can you return used shoes to DICK’S?

DICK’S may accept clean shoes in good condition that were tried on or tested, outside restricted categories. Acceptance is discretionary, so the general policy does not promise a worn-shoe trial. Nike Adapt shoes instead have a seven-day exchange provision, in the condition sold and subject to approval.

Can you return a baseball bat to DICK’S after using it?

No. DICK’S accepts baseball and softball bats only if unused; using a bat removes that ordinary return option. Golf Galaxy’s own policy is stricter and bars bat returns once packaging seals are broken, so check before unwrapping a bat bought there.

Does ScoreCard extend returns or provide free return labels?

The return and benefits pages we checked don’t state a longer merchandise window or general free return-label benefit for ScoreCard, Gold or ScoreCard+. Its benefits page advertises receipt-free returns; check with DICK’S which tiers qualify and how the lookup works. Keep proof and check order-specific label instructions rather than relying on membership alone.

Is a ScoreCard+ membership fee refundable?

No. DICK’S ScoreCard+ information says annual membership fees are nonrefundable. Disabling auto-renewal keeps benefits active through the current term; it does not refund the fee. That subscription rule is separate from merchandise eligibility and does not create a longer return period for items bought during membership.

Does the FTC give you three days to cancel a DICK’S purchase?

No, the FTC Cooling-Off Rule excludes entirely online sales and sales at a seller’s permanent business location. Those ordinary purchases do not gain three cancellation days under that rule. Use Dick’s return policy for the voluntary return route; a defect may involve separate manufacturer repair or warranty handling.
