Nike Return Policy: The 60-Day Trial, Exceptions and Refunds
The return policy for Nike in the US gives most items bought directly from Nike stores, Nike.com, the Nike App and SNKRS a 60-day trial: return or exchange them for any reason with proof of purchase. Nike Members mail returns free through UPS; guests pay their carrier. Clearance-store sales, pre-orders, SNKRS Reserve orders and custom jerseys are final.
- Most items have 60 days. Store purchases count from purchase; Nike’s online wording differs, so count conservatively from your order date.
- Proof is required, but paper isn’t: an order number, order barcode or Member order history can provide it.
- Member UPS returns are free; pickup costs extra, guests pay postage, and ordinary original delivery fees aren’t refunded.
- Nike issues refunds within six business days after receipt; cards, Apple Pay and PayPal can take up to 10 additional days.
- Later defect inspection generally covers two years from manufacture, not purchase; it is separate from the trial.

Start with Nike’s return policy, your order history (choose Start a Return or Exchange), the store-return finder or Nike customer service. Bought Nike from another store? Our US return-policy guides cover other retailers.
How Long Is Nike’s Return Window?
60 days is Nike’s ordinary return or exchange window for eligible purchases, for Members and guests alike. Nike store purchases count from purchase; Apple Watch accessories have only 14 days.
Nike does not define calendar versus business days, day-zero counting, time zones or cutoffs for its 60-, 14- and 21-day periods. Act several days early, especially for a mailed return.
When does the 60-day clock start for online orders?
Nike’s main policy counts online orders from delivery. Nike’s online-to-store page words it differently, counting from purchase; its warranty instructions also use purchase.
For safety, count 60 days from your order date, especially for a store return. Check whether Start a Return or Exchange remains available in order history, or ask Nike customer service for the answer that applies to your order before relying on the delivery date.
Does the 21-day UPS drop-off give you extra time?
No published rule establishes extra time beyond the return window. Nike’s Member instructions require UPS drop-off within 21 days of starting the return or exchange.
Nike does not say whether a mailed return must be started, dispatched, scanned or received by day 60, or whether that 21-day allowance can end after day 60. Start and drop off well before the underlying deadline; ask Nike about boundary cases.
Is there a 2026 holiday return extension?
As of October 28, 2026, Nike had published no 2026 holiday extension, eligible purchase range or extended deadline on its return policy page. Older guides still quote holiday dates; use the ordinary 60-day rules instead.
Check Nike’s policy again in November before relying on a holiday extension.
Can You Return Worn Nike Shoes?
Generally, yes, within the 60-day trial for eligible shoes. Nike’s Member benefits expressly describe testing shoes and gear; the trial permits returns for any reason, subject to exceptions and authorization.
Nike publishes no universal ordinary-goods rule covering original boxes, attached tags, accessories, washed items or hygiene. Return everything that came with the product, and ask Nike about uncertain condition issues. Jewelry must be unworn with its specified packaging, and LEGO sets must remain sealed.
Nike can limit returns, so testing permission does not guarantee acceptance of every item. After 60 days, ordinary wear and tear is not a defect, and Nike publishes no general entitlement to return unused goods indefinitely.
Returning to Nike Without a Receipt
Nike requires proof of purchase, but return instructions accept alternatives to a paper receipt:
- The order number.
- The order barcode from order history.
- The original store receipt.
Members can use purchase records saved in order history. A store purchase can appear there when the Member pass was scanned at checkout. Guests access an order with its number and the purchase email address.
Nike does not publish an ID-only return, payment-card lookup, standalone gift-receipt procedure or automatic store-credit promise. Government ID may be requested and captured electronically for authorization; it does not replace proof.
How to Return a Nike Order
Nike offers three main routes: a Nike store, Member UPS shipping or guest-arranged shipping. Membership status and your distance from an eligible non-Clearance store determine the practical choice; use the official instructions alongside these steps.
Returning an online order to a Nike store
Members and guests can take eligible online orders to most Nike stores.
- Check the store-return finder.
- Bring the item, original form of payment and order barcode or number.
- Present the purchase for a return or exchange.
This route avoids buying return postage. Clearance stores cannot accept the return; also follow the earlier order-date precaution explained under the online clock.
Mailing a return as a Nike Member
Members can use Nike’s prepaid UPS route for eligible linked orders.
- Sign in to order history, open the purchase and select Start a Return or Exchange.
- Choose the items and reasons, then box the goods.
- Take the boxed return and QR code to The UPS Store, or print the prepaid label for an eligible UPS location, including UPS Access Points.
- Drop off within 21 days of starting, while acting well before the underlying return deadline.
Bring the QR code or attach the printed label as appropriate. The return transportation is free; optional UPS pickup costs extra, with no amount or charging basis published. A QR code alone does not work at an Access Point. To retrieve the QR code later, open the order and choose View Return, then UPS Dropoff and Get a QR Code.
Mailing a return as a guest
Guests arrange and pay for their chosen carrier.
- Open the order through Nike’s orders page using the order number and purchase email.
- Start the return and follow the instructions to print a label.
- Box the item and pay your carrier for shipping.
If using a label other than Nike’s, write the return order number from the return email on at least two sides of the package. Nike publishes no fixed guest return fee; the cost is whatever your carrier charges.
Returning a Nike store purchase
Eligible store purchases can go to any Nike store except Clearance, with proof.
- Locate your receipt or linked Member purchase record.
- Take the item and proof to an eligible store.
- Alternatively, open a linked purchase in order history and follow the Member mail steps above.
The mail alternative requires a Member pass scanned at checkout and the purchase appearing in order history. Nike documents no equivalent route for unlinked store purchases; contact Nike before mailing one.
Does Nike Charge for Returns?
Nike Member returns are free through the UPS QR-code or prepaid-label process. Guests pay their chosen carrier, UPS pickup costs extra, and Instagram mail returns are customer-paid.
Original delivery fees are not refunded for ordinary preference or fit returns. Nike’s exceptions page names incorrect items as the shipping-refund exception, while its US Terms of Sale promise the purchase price and any shipping costs for justified defect claims or orders that do not conform on receipt. The terms posted when you bought govern your purchase; Nike customer service must apply them to your case.
For defective, damaged or wrong items, contact Nike before shipping, keep photos and the order record, and obtain confirmation before counting on shipping reimbursement. Nike does not publish who advances or reimburses a guest’s self-arranged defect-return postage.
If an item is missing from your delivery, it isn’t a return: check order status in case it is arriving in a separate shipment, check around the delivery location, then contact Nike if every shipment has arrived and the item is still missing.
Example: Assume a $100 item plus a separate $8 delivery charge, returned for fit, with the $100 approved for refund and tax excluded. The $8 delivery charge is not refunded under the ordinary shipping-fee rule; a defective or wrong-item case changes the analysis.
Nike publishes no ordinary restocking-fee schedule or universal no-fee guarantee. The Terms of Sale allow restocking fees, refused returns and suspended benefits for purchases Nike determines are intended for resale.
Exchanging Nike Items
Nike supports exchanges at eligible stores; Members can select eligible replacements shown in the online return flow. Guests should contact Nike for exchange help.
For mailed exchanges, Nike ships the replacement after receiving and inspecting the return. A store exchange can avoid that shipping-and-inspection wait if the desired replacement is available; Nike does not promise a stock hold.
Price differences, guaranteed replacement availability and exchange fees are not published. Confirm the options before committing, especially for items on the exceptions list.
What Nike Won’t Take Back
Nike’s exceptions depend on product and order type, rather than a blanket ban on SNKRS or discounted purchases.
| Item type | Nike’s rule | What you can do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Clearance-store purchases | Final; no returns, exchanges or price adjustments | Check final-sale status before buying; Clearance stores also refuse other returns |
| Pre-orders and SNKRS Reserve | Nonreturnable | Check the order type before purchase |
| Gift cards or marked nonreturnable items | Nonreturnable | Check the item designation before buying |
| Jersey By You | No returns or exchanges | Check personalization before ordering |
| Apple Watch accessories after 14 days | Outside the category window | Ask Nike about the specific issue |
| Opened LEGO brick sets | Ineligible for ordinary returns | Use LEGO’s replacement service for missing or broken pieces |
| Jewelry missing required condition or packaging | Does not meet the jewelry rule | Ask Nike before shipping |
Regular SNKRS orders and discounted goods generally are not named exclusions. Nike publishes no current Hyperice store-specific restriction; potentially defective Hyperice items go directly to Hyperice.
Nike By You sneakers vs Jersey By You
Nike By You sneakers follow the 60-day policy, including free Member returns through UPS. Personalized Jersey By You soccer jerseys cannot be returned or exchanged; the word “custom” alone does not determine eligibility.
Jewelry, Nike x LEGO and Apple Watch accessories
Nike jewelry must be unworn, in original condition, with its original box, pouch, inserts and tags; no separate jewelry window is published. Nike x LEGO brick sets must be sealed and unopened within the 60-day period.
Apple Watch accessories have 14 days from delivery or store purchase.
When Will You Get Your Nike Refund?
Nike issues refunds within six business days after receiving the return; cards, Apple Pay and PayPal may take up to 10 additional days to show the funds. Nike’s refund guidance separates those stages and emails you when the refund starts.
| Stage | What happens | Nike’s published time |
|---|---|---|
| Return window and transit | Establish eligibility, start and send the return | Usually 60 days; Member UPS drop-off within 21 days of starting. Transit: Not published |
| Nike processing | Nike receives the return and issues the refund | Within six business days after receipt |
| Card, Apple Pay or PayPal posting | Provider shows funds after initiation | Up to 10 additional days; calendar/business unit not stated |
| Gift-card or product-voucher posting | Value appears after initiation | Usually within 24 hours |
| Klarna posting | Klarna issues the refund | Not published |
| In-store or cash posting | Separate store/payment handling | Not published |
Treat these as separate stages, not a guaranteed total. Store handling is faster than shipping according to Nike, but Nike gives no separate cash or in-store bank-posting deadline. Refunds normally go to the original payment method, with named gift-card exceptions.
To check a return’s status, Members sign in to order history; guests open the order with the order number and purchase email. Keep your UPS or carrier drop-off receipt until the refund arrives.
Gift card, voucher and Klarna refunds
Nike gift-card and product-voucher refunds usually appear within 24 hours after initiation. Klarna issues refunds for Klarna-financed purchases; contact Klarna directly with refund questions rather than applying the card timetable.
Gifts, Social Orders and Nike Bought Elsewhere
Nike gift recipients can take the item and proof to a non-Clearance Nike store within 60 days of store purchase or delivery for a Nike gift-card refund, according to the gift instructions. Call Nike if no store is nearby.
Instagram orders use the Instagram order number and purchase email. Mailing is customer-paid; store returns require the order number and refund to a Nike gift card. Google orders also use order number and email: Members may contact Nike to link the order for a prepaid label; otherwise mailing is customer-paid.
Nike bought elsewhere normally goes back to the original seller. Use our Dick’s Sporting Goods return guide or Foot Locker return instructions if that retailer sold your purchase.
Nike publishes no separate Nike-hosted marketplace seller schedule; do not apply direct-Nike rules to Amazon or eBay sellers. For a defect in Nike gear bought from an authorized retailer, see the defect section below.
Defective Nike Items After 60 Days
Nike directs flawed items within the initial 60 days through normal returns. Afterward, Nike may inspect material or workmanship flaws within two years of the manufacture date on the tag, under its warranty procedures.
Normal wear and tear, misuse, excessive wear or dirt are not material/workmanship defects. Altered goods and unauthorized-seller purchases are excluded from inspection. Nike does not publish a universal remedy or claim-shipping cost for every direct-Nike claim; confirm instructions and shipping reimbursement before sending.
For authorized-retailer purchases, approach the seller first. If unable to return there or referred to Nike, use Nike’s claim form. Prepare the purchase place/date, manufacture date, style code, receipt amount and mailing/shipping address. Approved claims in this branch receive an emailed Nike gift card, and the flawed item is recycled.
Claim processing takes 5–7 business days after receipt at Nike RLC, separate from ordinary refund processing. Specific written guarantees require a dated receipt and original warranty card; the receipt should identify date, store, product/style and price. Check the category before relying on the general manufacture-date period.
Does the two-year period start at purchase or manufacture?
Manufacture, as shown on the tag, starts Nike’s general two-year defect-inspection period. NikeSKIMS has a different rule: one year from purchase for potentially defective or flawed items; contact Nike.
Example: Assume two otherwise identical pairs bought the same day have different manufacture dates on their tags. Their general inspection cutoffs can differ despite matching purchase dates; neither gains a second change-of-mind window.
Hyperice, LEGO and specialty categories
Nike’s specialty warranty guidance identifies these routes:
- Hyperice: Contact Hyperice directly for flaws, even within 60 days; Nike’s FAQ describes a one-year warranty.
- LEGO: Use the LEGO replacement-parts route described by Nike for missing or broken pieces in opened sets.
- Tennis: Selected styles carry a six-month rubber Outsole Durability Guarantee, identified by an in-box warranty card.
- Nike Vision: Sunglasses bought from a Nike-authorized Vision dealer have a one-year manufacturing-flaw route: go to the seller first, then Nike Vision if the seller refers you. Scratched lenses and lost items are excluded; prescription frames go through your eye care provider.
- Swimwear: Authorized-retailer material/workmanship claims have a one-year-from-manufacture route on retailer referral, using Nike Swimwear/Perry Ellis support. Direct Nike swimwear and sunglasses follow the standard policy.
- Components: Removable laces, charms, insoles and spikes are not eligible for separate replacement.
What If Nike Refuses Your Return?
If Nike refuses a return, keep the order record, emails and photos, and ask Nike customer service in writing to review the decision and explain it. Nike can decline or limit returns using electronically captured ID and return-activity records, and reserves refusal rights for purchases it determines are intended for resale.
The FTC’s complaint guidance supports contacting your state consumer office if unresolved; the FTC does not resolve individual complaints. The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule doesn’t cover purchases made entirely online or at a seller’s permanent store, so it adds no extra Nike return window.
Nike does not publish complete return handling for US territories, Alaska/Hawaii or cross-border purchases; contact Nike. This guide can’t settle what Nike doesn’t publish: day-counting rules, boundary-day cases and defect-postage arrangements. Your order page and Nike customer service decide those (see how we check retailer policies).
Mistakes to Avoid With the Return Policy for Nike
- Counting from delivery for an online-to-store return: Nike’s pages differ; use the earlier order date for safety.
- Starting on day 58 and assuming 21 extra days: The UPS instruction does not establish permission to return beyond day 60.
- Taking a QR code to an Access Point: Use The UPS Store for the code, or a printed label at an eligible location.
- Buying at, or returning to, a Clearance store: Sales there are final, and those stores refuse other returns.
- Treating two years as another trial: The later route concerns defects and generally counts from manufacture.

FAQ
Can I use my Nike UPS QR code at a UPS Access Point?
No. Nike’s return QR codes work only at The UPS Store, with the return already boxed. A printed prepaid UPS label can be used at eligible UPS locations, including Access Points. Choose the label route if your intended drop-off point cannot accept the QR code.
Are SNKRS purchases returnable?
Regular SNKRS purchases fall within Nike’s policy for most eligible direct purchases: a 60-day trial with proof of purchase. The named exclusions are pre-orders and SNKRS Reserve orders, which cannot be returned. Check the order type rather than assuming every purchase made through SNKRS is final.
Can Nike ask for my ID when I make a return?
Yes. Nike may require valid government ID, capture the information electronically and use return-activity records to authorize returns or exchanges. Nike can limit returns with or without receipts and says the captured information is not sold. ID does not replace the separate requirement for proof of purchase.
Can I return Nike sale or discounted items?
Sale pricing alone is not a named exclusion from Nike’s ordinary policy. Clearance-store sales are final, and items marked nonreturnable are excluded. Nike publishes no separate general sale-item rule, so check your order’s return options and the product exceptions before relying on the ordinary 60-day trial.
Do I have to pay for Nike Membership to get free returns?
No. Nike Membership is free, and the documented free return route uses the Member UPS QR code or prepaid label. Optional UPS pickup costs extra. Receiptless Member returns still rely on proof saved in order history; a store purchase is linked when the Member pass was scanned.
