Micro Center Return Policy: 15/30 Days, Bundles and Refunds

The Micro Center return policy gives most eligible merchandise 30 calendar days, but desktops, laptops, tablets, standalone CPUs and motherboards, drones, cameras, projectors, cell phones and 3D printers get 15 days. Store purchases count from purchase and shipped orders from delivery. Micro Center charges no restocking fee, but mailed returns need an RMA and prepaid return shipping.

Key facts

  • Short-window electronics get 15 days; other eligible goods and bundles get 30. Microsoft Surface stays at 15 with no extension.
  • PriorityCare+ doubles eligible windows; availability may vary by store.
  • An Insider account or validated contact details supplied at purchase can replace a paper receipt.
  • No restocking fee; mail-return postage and original shipping are not refunded.
  • Refunds go to original payment; mail RMAs can take up to two weeks to process before payment posting.

This guide covers Micro Center store purchases and orders shipped by Micro Center; third-party seller rules are unpublished. Browse more US store return guides for other retailers.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Micro Center?

Micro Center allows 30 calendar days for most eligible goods; the listed short-window products get 15.

Which products get only 15 days?

Micro Center’s detailed policy assigns the table’s short-window products 15 days. Surface has no extension.

Micro Center’s pages word other categories differently: the detailed policy omits them from its shortened list, while the return-policy page adds microphones and 3D scanners; the Help Center FAQ adds camera lenses, VR headsets, headphones and certain simulator accessories; and a product-page policy block adds phone accessories and CD/DVD duplicators. Treat these as 15-day items. Before buying, or if your item isn’t listed, open its product page on microcenter.com and check Support Resources for its return period, as the return-policy page directs. Use the period printed on your receipt or order or ask the store or live chat to confirm your exact SKU.

Graphics cards appear on none of those 15-day lists, so eligible GPUs use the 30-day default. Shopping the same laptop or camera elsewhere? Compare the window in our Best Buy return policy guide.

When does the clock start for store and shipped orders?

Micro Center counts store purchases from purchase and shipped orders from delivery, rather than the order date. Micro Center does not say whether the purchase or delivery day counts as day one, what the daily cutoff is, or whether closed days extend the deadline; return a few days early.

Example: Assume an eligible short-window item was ordered October 20 and delivered October 24, 2026. The clock starts October 24; day counting remains unspecified.

Bundles: CPUs and motherboards bought together

Micro Center gives bundles 30 days, including CPUs and motherboards otherwise limited to 15 days. Micro Center’s detailed policy requires every component back together for a refund; its product-page policy block words it differently, limiting refunds to complete, unused bundles. If you have opened or installed any bundle part, confirm refund eligibility with the store or live chat before you travel. A defective component may be exchanged separately if a suitable replacement is available; no partial refund or stock is guaranteed.

Can You Get Extra Return Time at Micro Center?

Yes: Micro Center publishes doubled windows for eligible PriorityCare+ purchases.

PriorityCare+ doubles eligible return windows

PriorityCare+ doubles eligible periods: 15 days becomes 30, and 30 becomes 60. Surface systems are excluded. Availability may vary by store; the membership page shows a coming-soon notice for some stores.

Example: Assume membership applies to an eligible 30-day non-Surface item. The period becomes 60 days. Enrollment, retroactive use and extension stacking are unpublished; confirm before buying. Members comparing paid programs can see how Costco handles electronics returns.

Does a free Micro Center account still add 14 days?

An older official policy page and archived check-in guidance offered another 14 days, but the current policy and Member Pricing page do not mention that entitlement. So the extra 14 days is neither confirmed nor withdrawn; work to the standard deadline unless Micro Center confirms otherwise for your purchase.

Is there a 2026 holiday return extension?

Micro Center has not published the 2026 purchase range or extended deadline; its holiday notice says the eligible period will be announced. The previous-season FAQ covered November 1–December 25, 2025 purchases through January 15, 2026. Those dates do not apply to this season.

The detailed policy excludes Surface from extensions, while the holiday notice says “Microsoft Surfaces or Laptops” stay at 15 days. Assume any laptop stays at 15 days during the holiday period until Micro Center clarifies the 2026 rules for your purchase.

What Condition Must a Micro Center Return Be In?

Micro Center requires original, resalable condition with packaging, manuals, documentation, accessories and cables. Shipped-return instructions require undamaged goods, the original carton/UPC and included materials. Opened hardware is not automatically final sale, but Micro Center does not promise to accept used, damaged or incomplete goods.

The detailed policy’s general checklist requires packaging, while its installed-item FAQ says packaging “if available”; the return-policy page also uses softer wording. Bring the box and everything included. A boxless return is not guaranteed: ask the store or live chat before traveling if packaging is missing.

Assembled PCs, installed parts and 3D printers

Micro Center requires assembled goods to be disassembled, restored to like-new condition and repacked; uninstall components before bringing them back. Staff removal help may incur a service fee; see the charges table.

A printer’s originally included filament spool is a consumable and need not come back. The policy says nothing about opened filament bought separately.

Practical tip: Inspect parts when they arrive, before installing them. Have the rest of your build ready so you can test a 15-day standalone CPU or motherboard well inside its return window.

Micro Center’s device-preparation rules require these steps before return:

  • Remove personal data.
  • Unlink cloud accounts and disconnect paired devices.
  • Perform a factory reset where applicable.

Items Micro Center Won’t Take Back

Micro Center’s exclusion list rules out:

  • Trading card games.
  • Opened software, including activation cards scanned at checkout.
  • Electronic software downloads, subject to the ESET wording below.
  • Stored-value activation cards.
  • Micro Center gift cards, except where law requires.
  • Customer-caused damage, including drone damage caused by pilot error.

Sale, clearance, refurbished and custom-build labor rules are unpublished; confirm purchase-specific terms.

Earbuds and ESET renewals: where Micro Center’s pages differ

The detailed policy allows defective earbuds to be exchanged only. The product-page policy block describes a defective return within 15 days without naming the remedy; the return-policy page places earbuds under both a 30-day heading and its non-returnable list. Do not count on a change-of-mind refund. Report a defect within 15 days of purchase and ask the store or live chat to confirm the exchange for your item.

The detailed policy excludes downloads without exception, while shipped-order help excepts ESET renewals without stating a period or remedy. Treat downloads as non-returnable; ask live chat promptly about any ESET renewal.

Can You Return to Micro Center Without a Receipt?

Often, yes: Micro Center waives the paper receipt for an Insider account or validated name, address and email details supplied at purchase. Purchase identification is still required.

  1. No online account yet? Register at microcenter.com with the email you gave at checkout, then use Orders as below.
  2. Recover an account receipt. Follow receipt-copy help: sign in using the checkout email, open Orders, locate the purchase, choose View Receipt, then Resend Receipt. Advanced widens the default three-month search.
  3. Add a missing purchase when you have its details. Follow Add An Order instructions: Order History → Add An Order, then enter the receipt reference number and total. Confirm the purchase appears; receipt details are required.

Card-only or ID lookup, discretionary refunds and no-proof credit are unpublished. Current gift-receipt and gift-refund rules are also unpublished. If neither the checkout-email account route nor the receipt details recover the purchase, the policy gives no documented alternative; ask the store before making the trip.

How to Return to Micro Center

Store purchases return in person; shipped orders can use authorized mail returns. Gather included materials, purchase proof and original payment.

Returning a store purchase in person

Micro Center accepts eligible returns at any store, except same-day returns or exchanges at a different location. Local sales-tax differences may slightly change the refund.

  1. Choose the location with the Store Locator. For a same-day return, use the purchase store.
  2. Prepare the complete item and original payment card. Check cables, accessories and documentation against the packaging; remove installed parts first to avoid possible service charges.
  3. Bring the merchandise to the counter within its window. Check-in alone is not described as completing a return; the physical handover is still necessary.

Micro Center’s older, archived check-in article describes Orders/Returns → Return generating a QR code for the counter. Current screens and QR generation are unverified; do not rely on historical check-in to preserve a deadline.

How do you get an RMA for a shipped order?

Micro Center’s shipped-order help directs customers to website live chat for a return merchandise authorization, or RMA.

  1. Request authorization through Help Center live chat. Confirm that your shipped order qualifies; do not mail without authorization.
  2. Read the follow-up email. Check for the RMA number, instructions and destination; do not guess an address.
  3. Pack the complete return with dated proof. Include the invoice or packing slip; check that documentation is inside before sealing.
  4. Put the RMA number on the shipping label. Check before dispatch; improper labeling can trigger noncompliance remedies.
  5. Prepay postage, insurance and other return costs. Follow the email and keep the shipment record. The online terms assign transit risk to you and do not refund these costs.
  6. Watch for completion confirmation by email. Micro Center says RMA processing can take up to two weeks; the precise starting event is unpublished.

Micro Center does not publish whether requesting, dispatching, scanning or receiving the parcel meets the deadline, or an RMA validity period. Carrier, label-price and geographic exceptions are unpublished. Request authorization and ship well inside the applicable window.

General guidance invites any-store returns; confirm with chat before bringing a shipped order. Comparing an online component purchase elsewhere? See Amazon’s return process.

Products damaged in shipping

Micro Center’s shipping-damage guidance says live chat can arrange a FedEx claim and pickup. Contact chat upon unpacking damage. Micro Center does not publish a reporting deadline, photo requirements or who pays return shipping for other faults; get chat’s instructions before you ship anything yourself.

Return Fees, Shipping Costs and the $60 Charge

Micro Center says it charges no restocking fees.

Charges that can apply to a Micro Center return

Charge When Amount Source
Restocking Standard eligible return None Detailed policy
Component removal Staff uninstalls parts Service fee; amount/basis unpublished Detailed policy
Return postage and insurance Mail return Customer prepays; not refunded Online terms
Original delivery Online-sale return Shipping charges not refunded Online terms
Noncompliant mail return Unauthorized, late, improperly labeled or packed Discretionary refusal, retail-price charge plus $60 collection/handling; possible collection/legal costs and account inactivation Online terms

The discretionary $60 remedy has no published billing basis.

The Help Center’s Member Pricing banner says returns are free, while the online terms require prepaid, nonrefundable shipping. Budget for mail-return postage and follow the RMA email for your order; do not assume a prepaid label.

When Will You Get Your Micro Center Refund?

Micro Center estimates credit-card refunds typically take 3–7 business days and checks up to 14 business days, but those figures mix its own processing with your bank’s posting, and a mail RMA can take up to two weeks to process first.

Micro Center refunds the original payment method, including Visa, Mastercard and Amex gift or virtual cards. Keep the card available.

Micro Center refund timing in three stages

Stage Published timing Limitation
1. Return window 15/30 calendar days; eligible PriorityCare+ doubles these Mail milestone: Not published
2. Micro Center processing Store: Not published. Mail RMA: up to two weeks RMA trigger and “weeks” definition: Not published
3. Bank or card-provider posting Not published separately Combined estimates below

Micro Center’s refund estimates by payment type (processing and posting combined)

Payment type Combined estimate
Credit card Typically 3–7 business days; issuer may take longer (detailed policy)
Debit Detailed policy: 1–5 business days for debit or bank transfers; return-policy page: about 14 business days for debit
Check Up to 14 business days (detailed policy)
Cash or split tender Not published

The detailed help article and return-policy page give different debit estimates. Allow up to 14 business days before chasing; ask the store or live chat about your refund. StoreReturners shows both figures rather than picking one (how we verify policies).

The RMA estimate and combined payment estimates do not define an end-to-end timeline. Do not add them into a guaranteed maximum. No fallback for a lost, expired or closed card is published; contact support before returning.

Exchanges and Defective Items

Micro Center permits eligible exchanges within the window: cheaper replacements mean a difference refund to original payment; pricier ones require paying the difference.

Example: Assume an eligible $120 item is exchanged for a $90 replacement with no tax or other adjustments. Micro Center refunds the $30 difference to original payment.

For defective goods within the window, remedies include repair, identical-product exchange or original-payment refund, subject to stock and category rules. Earbuds retain the exchange-only restriction; customer-caused damage is excluded. The defective-bundle-part exception does not authorize individual-component refunds. If you’re unsure whether your item is faulty, use Micro Center’s free consultation, which is separate from the paid component-removal service.

Mail-exchange terms are unpublished; ask chat about postage and replacement timing. After the return window, warranty terms become a separate question.

Open-Box Items, Protection Plans and PriorityCare+ Refunds

  • Open-box: Same return period as the new equivalent; standard return conditions apply. The Ubiquiti open-box 90-day warranty is warranty coverage, not a 90-day return window.
  • Protection plan: Request a refund before expiry at a store with the covered item, receipt and original payment method. After the first 60 days, refunds are prorated under remaining-term and plan conditions.
  • PriorityCare+ membership: Under the membership terms, request within 30 days of initial purchase if no discounted products or free services were used. Dedicated-line priority alone does not count as use. Refunds go to original payment and end benefits immediately.

Your Federal Rights Beyond the Store Policy

The FTC Cooling-Off Rule gives no general three-day cancellation right for purchases made entirely online, by mail or phone or at permanent store premises.

For covered online, mail or phone orders, the FTC shipment rule requires notice of shipping delays and a choice to accept the delay or cancel for a full refund. Unshipped orders require money back, not merely store credit; that protection is separate from returning delivered goods.

Warranty and service-contract remedies also differ from voluntary returns. The FTC advises contacting the seller, then manufacturer; repair may precede a refund. State protections vary, so no uniform state refund entitlement follows here.

Public sources cannot settle SKU disputes, private screens or store discretion. Consult your receipt or order and live chat.

Micro Center Return Policy Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming a laptop or standalone CPU gets 30 days without a qualifying extension.
  • Treating online check-in or an RMA request as proof the deadline was met.
  • Seeking a refund for only one bundle component.
  • Mailing without authorization or the RMA number on the label, risking noncompliance remedies.
  • Expecting free postage or refunded original shipping.
  • Relying on the old free-account extension or last season’s holiday dates.

FAQ

Can I mail back something I bought in a Micro Center store?

No. Micro Center requires store purchases to return in person at a Micro Center location. The mail RMA route applies to shipped orders. If traveling is difficult, contact the store or live chat before the deadline; the published policy does not provide a mail exception for store purchases.

Can I return an item to a different Micro Center store?

Yes, except for same-day returns or exchanges at a different location. Micro Center also warns that local sales-tax differences can slightly change the refund. For a same-day return, use the original store; otherwise choose a location using the locator. Bring the complete item and original payment method.

Do graphics cards get 15 or 30 days at Micro Center?

Eligible graphics cards get the standard 30 calendar days because GPUs appear on none of the published 15-day category lists. Exclusions and condition rules still apply. Check the period on your receipt or order, especially if another item in the same purchase belongs to a shortened-window category.

Can I return a Micro Center gift without the buyer’s receipt?

Micro Center does not publish current gift-receipt and gift-refund rules in the reviewed policy. Account-linked proof or a receipt resent by the buyer is the documented purchase-recovery route, not a guaranteed gift remedy. Ask the store what proof it needs and where any refund would go before visiting.

Will Micro Center refund to the Visa or Amex gift card I paid with?

Yes. Micro Center’s shipped-order guidance includes Visa, Mastercard and Amex gift or virtual cards in its original-payment refund rule. Keep the card details until the refund is resolved. An alternative destination when the original card is lost, expired or closed is unpublished; contact support in that situation.
