Ross Return Policy: 30 Days, No-Receipt Credit and Refund Rules

Under the return policy for Ross Dress for Less, US in-store purchases are refunded to the original payment method within 30 days of purchase with the original receipt, if unused, unworn and unaltered. An older receipt gets an exchange or store credit; with no receipt, valid picture ID gets store credit or an exchange at the current selling price.

Ross return policy: key facts

  • Ross sells merchandise in stores; returns go through a store cashier. No mail or online merchandise return route is published.
  • Refunds within 30 days require the original receipt and unused, unworn, unaltered merchandise. The original payment card must be present for card refunds.
  • A receipt older than 30 days gets an exchange or store credit.
  • No-receipt returns require a driver’s license, state photo ID, passport or military ID and use current selling prices. Credit over $50 is mailed within 21 days to the ID address.
  • Every return undergoes verification, which can decline it. Some categories require receipts or tickets; swimwear and lingerie require the original ticket attached.

How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Ross?

Ross allows 30 days from purchase for a full refund with the original receipt and unused, unworn, unaltered merchandise. The window runs from purchase, rather than delivery, because Ross merchandise is sold in person.

Ross does not define calendar versus business days, whether purchase day counts, cutoff times or what happens if the store is closed on day 30. Complete the return at the counter a few days early. If you are returning items to Burlington on the same trip, check the Burlington return policy separately rather than assuming the same 30 days.

Do Ross cards or the 55+ Tuesday Discount extend the deadline?

Ross publishes no longer return window or other extra return privileges for Ross Mastercard, Ross Credit Card or Ross Rewards customers, or for 55+ Tuesday Discount shoppers. Use the standard rules unless Ross supplies terms saying otherwise.

Is there a Ross holiday return extension for 2026?

Ross had published no 2026 holiday return extension as of October 28, 2026, on its return policy and FAQ, homepage or sitemap. Use the standard rules, keep original receipts for gifts, and ask the cashier whether a seasonal notice applies. Dates quoted from previous seasons do not establish this year’s deadline.

Returning to Ross After 30 Days With a Receipt

Ross says merchandise with a receipt older than 30 days receives an exchange or store credit, rather than an original-payment refund. The late-return rule does not say that every return after 30 days is refused.

Ross publishes neither a final age limit nor the valuation basis for these returns. Do not assume unlimited eligibility or apply the no-receipt current-price rule to an older receipt. Ask the cashier about the amount; picture ID may be requested. Without any receipt, a different valuation rule applies.

Can You Return to Ross Without a Receipt?

Yes, eligible merchandise can receive store credit or an exchange at its current selling price with valid picture ID. The Ross no-receipt policy does not offer a refund to your original card.

Select categories require a receipt even for credit or exchange. Ross directs shoppers to the receipt front or cashier for that list; the public policy does not supply it. Every return undergoes system verification and can be declined. Ross mentions a no-receipt limit without publishing its number, reset period or appeal process.

Card lookup, receipt reprints, digital receipts, bank statements and gift-receipt treatment are unpublished; ask before relying on an alternative. For purchases split between chains, compare the Marshalls no-receipt return guidance rather than assuming identical rules.

Which IDs Ross accepts for a no-receipt return

Ross lists four valid picture-ID types:

  • Driver’s license
  • State photo ID
  • Passport
  • Military ID

ID details go into the verification system. Picture ID is mandatory without a receipt; Ross says ID may be required for refunds generally.

Why your no-receipt credit may arrive by mail

For approved no-receipt store credit over $50, Ross mails the voucher within 21 days of the return to the address on your ID. Check that address before proceeding. Mailing within 21 days does not promise delivery within 21 days; Ross does not define calendar versus business days.

Exactly $50 does not exceed the threshold. Ross does not publish issuance arrangements for $50 or less, so ask the cashier rather than expecting immediate credit.

Example: Assume direct Ross purchases, unused merchandise in an eligible category, valid ID and approved verification. An unworn top bought for $25 but currently selling for $15 has a $15 no-receipt value basis. A separate approved $60 no-receipt credit triggers mailing; neither example calculates tax or promises arrival.

Items With Extra Return Rules at Ross

Ross’s public policy names a few item-specific conditions and sends shoppers to the receipt front or cashier for the rest. Specific final-sale, clearance, jewelry/watch, mattress, cosmetic/perfume, food and hygiene-liner rules are unpublished there; check before buying or removing tickets.

Swimwear and lingerie

Ross requires the original ticket attached for swimwear and lingerie returns or exchanges. Ross does not list them as excluded; preserve the ticket and meet the other applicable return conditions.

Opened and defective software

Ross gives no refund for opened software. Defective software is exchangeable for like merchandise only.

Ross gift cards and store credit

Ross replaces lost or stolen gift cards only for the remaining balance when you present the original register receipt. Ross’s FAQ says gift cards and store credit have no expiration; that statement does not cover promotional Reward Certificates.

Purchased gift-card refundability is unpublished, so ask Ross before buying. Ross separately offers online orders for mailed gift cards, but accessible terms do not establish their cancellation, return workflow or shipping-refund rules. Ask through the official contact form rather than applying merchandise rules to them.

Can You Return Worn or Used Items to Ross?

No. Under its general voluntary policy, Ross gives no refund, store credit or exchange for used, worn or altered merchandise.

Universal packaging, accessory and all-tags-attached requirements beyond the named categories are unpublished. Keep tags and bring everything supplied with the item as a precaution. Defective-item and warranty questions need separate consideration; see the defects section below.

How to Return an Item to a Ross Store

Take the merchandise and applicable proof to a Ross cashier. Use the official return policy/contact form when preparing your visit.

  1. Match your situation to the table. Check receipt, purchase age and category. Confirm the likely remedy; missing the receipt changes both proof and valuation.
  2. Gather the item and payment proof. Pack the original receipt and original payment card for a card refund. Check swimwear and lingerie tickets are still attached. Ross requires the original card to be present for a card refund.
  3. Bring valid picture ID. Check you have one of the four listed types. ID is compulsory without a receipt and may be requested otherwise; do not rely on a bank statement as an established substitute.
  4. Visit a Ross cashier. Find a store with the Ross store locator; if it is not the purchase store, ask that store before you travel, because Ross does not publish whether other branches accept returns.
  5. Allow for verification. Meeting the basic conditions does not guarantee approval. If the return is declined, ask the cashier or use the contact form (Customer Service → Merchandise Return or Exchange). It asks for the purchase store’s city and state and, if you have the receipt, its number and date. Do not include credit/debit card numbers, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers or banking information in the message.
  6. Keep the return receipt. Confirm the remedy and any mailing instructions. For no-receipt credit over $50, watch mail at the ID address; do not mistake the mailing deadline for an arrival promise.

Can you return Ross items to a different store?

Ross does not publish whether another branch or state accepts the return. Use the purchase store as a precaution, or ask the intended store’s cashier before relying on it.

Can you mail a return to Ross?

Ross publishes no mail, carrier, label or collection route for store merchandise, and no return-shipping cost. Plan an in-store return. If you need a mail-back option for off-price clothing, the Nordstrom Rack return policy guide covers that retailer’s own methods.

When Will You Get Your Ross Refund?

Ross publishes a 5-day wait only for cash refunds on check-paid purchases, and mailing within 21 days for no-receipt credit over $50. Its refund policy gives no general processing or bank-posting estimate.

Ross refund timeline: three clocks

Stage What Ross publishes

Clock 2: no-receipt credit over $50 Voucher mailed within 21 days of return; day unit: Not published

Clock 3: card issuer posting Not published
Clock 3: voucher postal delivery Not published

Refunds to cards, cash and checks

Ross uses the original payment form for eligible receipted refunds within 30 days. Credit/debit refunds go to the same card, which must be physically present; cash refunds on check purchases have the separate wait above. For inquiries about check payments and the authorized one-time electronic fund transfer, Ross gives 1-800-767-7457.

Split payments, gift-card/store-credit payments, mobile wallets and missing-card handling are unpublished. Bring the exact card used; if lost, ask the cashier about handling before assuming cash or another card is available.

Exchanges at Ross

Ross explicitly permits eligible exchanges, including after 30 days with a receipt and at current selling prices without one. A previous no-receipt exchange remains non-receipted; swapping merchandise does not create original-receipt status later.

Direct-swap versus refund-and-repurchase mechanics, charges, price differences, stock guarantees and window resets are unpublished. Ask the cashier before selecting a replacement.

What If a Ross Item Is Defective or Recalled?

Ross publishes no general defect procedure beyond its defective-software like-item exchange. Contact the store or Ross contact form, keeping the receipt and warranty. The voluntary used-item exclusion does not by itself settle warranty or state-law rights.

The FTC’s warranty guidance recommends contacting the seller first, then the manufacturer if unresolved. Written warranties and state-law implied warranties depend on the product and applicable law; repair may precede refund. The FTC three-day Cooling-Off Rule does not cover ordinary permanent-store purchases.

For recalls, consult Ross Legal Notices & Recalled Products and follow the product-specific government notice. No single recall remedy applies across that index.

This guide cannot establish Ross’s full category list, numeric no-receipt limit or a particular store’s defect handling from unpublished details. Read how we check retailer policies for the evidence approach, then ask Ross about your item.

How Returns Affect Ross Card Rewards and Offers

Ross’s introductory-offer terms say the one-time 10% credit-card offer is not reissued after a return or refund. Returning the purchase does not restore that offer.

The accessible, undated common Ross Rewards terms on the issuer’s site calculate earnings net of returns. A return can reduce Reward Dollars or create a negative balance that must be earned back. Reward Certificate value used on returned merchandise is forfeited under that version.

The card-specific terms Ross links to were inaccessible, so check your account’s terms before relying on these clauses.

Mistakes to Avoid With the Return Policy for Ross

  • Leaving the original card at home: Ross requires it for a same-card refund.
  • Expecting immediate no-receipt credit: over $50 triggers mailing to the ID address; an outdated address can send the voucher to the wrong place.
  • Removing swimwear or lingerie tickets: Ross requires the original ticket attached for return or exchange.
  • Opening software you might return: opened software has no refund route; defective software gets like-item exchange only.
  • Relying on seasonal dates or general “5-day refunds”: no 2026 extension is published, and five days concerns check-paid cash refunds only.
  • Treating a no-receipt exchange as receipted later: Ross retains its non-receipted status.

FAQ

Does Ross charge a restocking fee?

Ross does not publish a return or restocking-fee schedule in its public policy. Silence does not establish that every return is free. Ask the cashier whether a charge applies to your item before proceeding, especially when checking a category whose restrictions appear on the receipt.

Can Ross look up my purchase with my card if I lost the receipt?

Ross does not publish card-based receipt lookup as an alternative to the original register receipt. Ask the cashier whether help is available, but prepare for the no-receipt route: valid picture ID, current-selling-price credit or exchange, category restrictions and system verification.

Can I return a Ross item I received as a gift?

Ross does not publish how gift receipts are treated. Ask the giver for the original purchase receipt if possible. Without that original receipt, prepare for the picture-ID route, which offers current-price credit or exchange for eligible merchandise, subject to category restrictions and verification.

Is there a limit on no-receipt returns at Ross?

Ross says its verification system limits no-receipt refunds, but publishes no numeric allowance or reset period. The system can decline a return even when you bring ID. Keep original receipts and ask the cashier about a declined transaction; a formal appeal process is not published.

Can I return an item bought from an online reseller to Ross?

Ross sells its merchandise only in stores and does not publish return eligibility for items bought from independent online resellers. Ask the seller about its own return terms before buying or sending anything back. A Ross-related listing does not establish that Ross will accept the item at its counter.
