How Long Do You Have to Return Items to Charles Tyrwhitt?
Charles Tyrwhitt gives you six months, including sale purchases. The start date needs care because its official pages word the guarantee differently. If you’re comparing premium shirt and tailoring retailers, see Reiss’s return window and exclusions.
Six Months From Dispatch or From Delivery?
Charles Tyrwhitt’s help page says six months without naming a start event. Its UK terms, section 8.1, count from dispatch; some promotional wording instead says “182 days” after receipt. The safe approach is to count six months from dispatch, check the date in your dispatch email or order history, and ask Customer Services if you’re unsure. The statutory cancellation period runs from receipt and is separate, as explained below.
What Has to Happen Before the Six Months End?
Charles Tyrwhitt does not publish whether registration, posting, first scan or arrival meets the deadline. Register and post in the same week, well before expiry, and keep proof of postage.
Labels last 28 days from issue; that is label validity, with no published guarantee extension. The store-purchase start event is also unpublished: count from your receipt’s purchase date.
Is There a Christmas 2026 Returns Extension?
Charles Tyrwhitt has not published a Christmas 2026 extension in the reviewed sources. That does not establish that none will appear; check the guarantee page in December. The ordinary six-month window already spans Christmas for eligible November and December gifts.
Does Charles Tyrwhitt Charge for Returns?
Charles Tyrwhitt provides free portal postage but deducts £3.95 per postal refund parcel, under its guarantee and terms 8.2(a). Its unqualified “free online returns” promotional wording differs: prepaid postage and fee exemptions explain how some returns are free, but do not make postal refunds universally free. Expect the deduction; check the portal or Customer Services for your order.
Example: Assume one eligible, non-faulty £80 item after discounts, returned alone through Royal Mail outside statutory cancellation, with no other adjustments. £80 − £3.95 = £76.05, excluding original delivery charges. Two separate qualifying refund parcels cost £7.90.
A separate restocking fee is not listed. Original delivery refunds on voluntary returns, mixed parcels containing refunds, exchanges or faulty items, combined orders and Bletchley drop-off fees are not published: ask before combining items or calculating your refund. If you’re comparing high-street menswear, see how Next’s return costs and window compare.
When the £3.95 Fee Doesn’t Apply
Charles Tyrwhitt exempts:
- Eligible exchanges, with free postage both ways.
- Eligible UK store returns.
- Faulty items; the terms also refund original delivery and return costs.
How the £3.95 applies during a statutory 14-day cancellation is not explained; see the rights section below.
Can You Return Washed Shirts or Items Without Tags?
Yes. Charles Tyrwhitt accepts eligible items after washing or removing swing tags, within the guarantee; Custom and altered-item exclusions remain. Original packaging is unnecessary: pack securely, include correspondence and cover old address details with the new label.
Proof can be a receipt, order-confirmation email or order number, including in store. Returns without proof and card lookup are not covered by the published policy, so find the confirmation email before choosing a route; gifts are covered in the FAQ.
How to Return a Charles Tyrwhitt Order
Charles Tyrwhitt requires no advance call for a normal return. Contact Customer Services first for a wrong item, fault or return outside the guarantee, under its paperwork guidance.
Royal Mail Through the Returns Portal
Charles Tyrwhitt lists Royal Mail for UK orders:
- Open the returns portal with JavaScript enabled; enter your case-sensitive order reference exactly.
- Select Royal Mail; the instructions say the label and tracking arrive by email.
- Attach the label, or use QR printing at a selected drop-off location; keep proof of postage.
Postage is prepaid; a refund parcel attracts £3.95 unless exempt. Only one label can be used per order. With several orders in one parcel, the scanned-label order is processed straight away; others wait for warehouse arrival, according to the instructions.
Jersey Post for Jersey and Guernsey
Charles Tyrwhitt lists Jersey Post for Jersey and Guernsey:
- Open the portal and enter the order reference exactly.
- Select Jersey Post; print and attach the emailed label.
- Keep proof of postage and tracking.
The same postal fee and exemptions apply; the parcel enters standard processing.
Returning to a UK Charles Tyrwhitt Store
Charles Tyrwhitt accepts eligible GBP orders at UK stores, excluding Belfast:
- Check the store locator.
- Bring the items and receipt, confirmation email or order number.
- Request a refund; store purchases can also be exchanged, subject to stock.
Eligible store returns are free. Concession purchases cannot go here. Store refund timing is unpublished; ask the store when to expect the credit.
Dropping a Parcel at the Bletchley Returns Address
Charles Tyrwhitt permits personal parcel drop-off:
- Pack securely and include the relevant correspondence.
- Deliver to Charles Tyrwhitt, James Way, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, MK1 1SU.
Drop-off fee treatment is unpublished: confirm before travelling. The drop-off guidance says refunds and exchanges are processed later as standard returns, with no counter transaction.
Returning From Outside the UK
A UK-site purchase returned from abroad cannot use the UK online service; you pay postage. Global-e international orders have a separate three-month guarantee; for UK purchases, the right route depends on where you bought, as the table below shows.
Refund or Exchange: Which Route Fits Your Purchase?
| Where you bought | Want a refund | Want an exchange |
|---|---|---|
| Online/telephone | Portal post: £3.95 unless exempt; eligible UK store: free | Online returns service, free |
| Charles Tyrwhitt store | Store, or warehouse by post; cash posted back becomes a voucher | Store only; check stock first |
| Department-store concession | Contact the concession seller; Charles Tyrwhitt stores and warehouse can’t accept it | Contact the concession seller; Charles Tyrwhitt stores and warehouse can’t accept it |
The official instructions distinguish these routes. Shoppers also buying formal shirts can check M&S’s store return and exchange rules.
Can You Exchange an Online Order in a Charles Tyrwhitt Store?
No. Charles Tyrwhitt stores refund online and telephone purchases; eligible exchanges must be requested through the online returns service. Store purchases are exchanged in store; posting them to the warehouse gives a refund only.
How Exchange Price Differences Work
Charles Tyrwhitt’s terms provide free replacement postage and packaging and allow promotional pricing to be honoured. Cheaper replacements produce a difference refund; dearer ones are charged to the original card if available; if it can’t be charged, Charles Tyrwhitt asks you to contact it to pay the difference. Unavailable replacements lead to an original-payment refund.
No fixed exchange limit applies, but apparent misuse is monitored and future returns, exchanges or orders may be refused.
How Long Do Charles Tyrwhitt Refunds Take?
Charles Tyrwhitt’s help centre allows up to 10 working days to process refunds and exchanges, without publishing the clock’s start event. Its terms separately promise a voluntary-return refund as soon as possible and within 30 days of your cancellation notice. Do not add these periods together.
| Stage | What Charles Tyrwhitt says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Return window | Six months; dispatch/receipt wording differs | Guarantee / terms |
| Retailer processing | Up to 10 working days; terms separately state within 30 days | Processing help / terms 8.2(a) |
| Bank/card/PayPal posting | Not published | Processing / refund help |
| Store refunds | Not published | Store-return instructions |
For defects, the terms describe inspection, entitlement notification, then processing within 30 days of confirmation. These contract statements do not replace statutory 14-day refund rules below. Ask Customer Services about delays rather than assuming a bank-credit date.
Where Does a Charles Tyrwhitt Refund Go?
Charles Tyrwhitt normally refunds the original payment method. Its voucher policy says that, if impossible, a gift voucher is issued if an email address is held; confirmation typically arrives within 48 hours, with no stated start event.
Voucher-funded online orders receive replacement vouchers, which cannot be cashed. Cash store purchases posted to the warehouse receive vouchers. Statutory refunds use the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise; discounts can also affect the amount.
Multi-Buy and Discount Voucher Refunds
Charles Tyrwhitt’s terms 12.4 calculate a multi-buy return as the item’s full price less the total offer discount. Exchanging outside that multi-buy costs the discounted-to-full-price difference; terms 13.4 deduct the money-off voucher value used from full price for a refund.
Allocation across repeated or partial returns is unpublished: ask Customer Services to check the order breakdown instead of calculating a bundle refund.
What Can’t You Return to Charles Tyrwhitt?
Charles Tyrwhitt excludes Custom, personalised and altered goods and face masks from ordinary returns, under its guarantee and terms:
- Custom shirts, suits and jackets. The help permits a Custom shirt return or exchange for a manufacturing defect; ordinary items in the same order retain the guarantee.
- Monogrammed or personalised items.
- Altered items, including shortened sleeves or tails, added pockets and trouser or jacket alterations, by Charles Tyrwhitt or a third-party tailor. Contact support about a possible replacement for a manufacturing defect.
- Face masks, excluded for hygiene reasons.
- Concession purchases at Charles Tyrwhitt stores or warehouse.
Separate underwear, shoe or accessory rules are unpublished: ask before assuming eligibility conditions. Statutory faulty-goods rights still apply to excluded items, through the route below.
Faulty Items and Your UK Consumer Rights
Charles Tyrwhitt asks you to contact Customer Services on 0344 482 4000 or website chat before sending faulty or wrong items. Within six months its faulty-item help offers a checked replacement or full refund. The terms refund original delivery and return costs, with no £3.95 deduction under the help policy. After six months, contact first: the retailer promises to try to resolve matters, without guaranteeing a refund.
Separately, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally gives a 30-day short-term right to reject qualifying faulty or misdescribed goods, beginning the day after delivery and transfer of ownership and possession are complete. Repair or replacement, and potentially a later price reduction or final rejection, remain available subject to statutory conditions. For relevant repair or replacement remedies, faults arising within six months of delivery are presumed present then unless rebutted or incompatible with the goods or fault.
A section 20 rejection refund is due without undue delay, within 14 days of agreeing entitlement, with no refund fee; the trader bears reasonable return costs. GOV.UK says statutory proof can include a bank statement; that does not establish a voluntary no-receipt route. Statutory rights do not simply expire with the guarantee; distance cancellation has separate deadlines.
Cancelling an Online Order Within 14 Days
Eligible Charles Tyrwhitt distance purchases have a separate cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013:
- Notify cancellation within 14 days after receipt, normally the last item for split deliveries. A clear statement suffices; the model form is optional.
- Send back without undue delay, within 14 days after notification.
- Reimbursement is due without undue delay, within 14 days after return receipt or earlier proof of sending back.
Whole-order cancellation refunds standard outbound delivery, excluding premium-delivery excess. Personalised or made-to-specification goods, including Custom, are excluded from change-of-mind cancellation. The retailer’s terms ask for written notice and immediate return at your cost; the Regulations allow a clear statement and the separate 14-day send-back period. The Regulations bar any fee for reimbursing a cancellation, although disclosed direct return costs can fall to you unless the trader agreed to pay them, and qualifying deductions for reduced value have separate conditions. Charles Tyrwhitt does not explain how its £3.95 fits these rules, so ask Customer Services before sending.
This guide covers UK direct purchases; order-specific portal screens or carrier choices cannot be confirmed without a live order. For unpublished details, ask Customer Services for your order’s answer; see how StoreReturners checks policies against official pages.
Charles Tyrwhitt Returns Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money
- Posting a size swap as a refund: a qualifying refund parcel loses £3.95; request an eligible exchange instead.
- Seeking an online-order store exchange: stores refund those orders; use the online service to exchange.
- Packing several orders under one label: only the scanned order is processed straight away; register each order and attach its own label.
- Leaving a label past 28 days: validity expires; arrange return promptly, without treating label life as extra guarantee time.
- Posting a cash store purchase expecting cash: the warehouse issues a voucher; consider returning in store.
- Trusting “180 days from purchase” or universal “free returns”: count six months from dispatch for safety and expect the postal refund deduction.
Charles Tyrwhitt Returns FAQ
Can I cancel a Charles Tyrwhitt order before it’s dispatched?
Possibly. Charles Tyrwhitt’s cancellation help says to contact Customer Services promptly by website chat or on 0344 482 4000; an order that has not yet left may be stopped or changed. Stopping it is not guaranteed. If it has already shipped, use the return routes or your 14-day cancellation right.
What if my return label has expired or I’ve lost it?
Charles Tyrwhitt return labels last 28 days from issue. The published help does not explain lost-label regeneration, so revisit the official portal or contact Customer Services for instructions. Selected Royal Mail locations offer QR printing, but that does not establish that an expired label remains valid.
Can I return a gift without the buyer’s order details?
Charles Tyrwhitt accepts a receipt, confirmation email or order number as proof. A gift-recipient procedure without those details, gift-receipt treatment and purchaser notification are unpublished. Ask the buyer for the order number, or contact Customer Services before posting; do not assume you can choose gift credit.
Does a student or youth discount change the returns rules?
No special student or youth return window or fee waiver, and no loyalty or referral return benefit, was found in the reviewed public sources; check your offer terms or ask Customer Services. Use the standard policy rather than assuming a longer deadline. The terms adjust money-off-voucher refunds by the voucher value used.
Can I return a department-store concession purchase?
Not to Charles Tyrwhitt. Its stores and warehouse cannot accept concession purchases, and website or store purchases cannot go back to a concession. Charles Tyrwhitt does not publish the concession’s own return window or procedure, so contact the department store that sold it, and check the seller named on your receipt before travelling.
