Bath & Body Works Return Policy: 90 Days, Receipts & Refunds

Bath & Body Works accepts new, gently used or defective products bought directly from its US stores, website or app. Under the Bath and Body return policy, original-receipt returns of paid purchases within 90 days of purchase get original-payment refunds; online gift-card payments get a new e-gift card. Late, gift-receipt, no-receipt and Reward-item returns get merchandise credit.

Key facts

  • The 90 days run from purchase/order date; no final cutoff for late credit is published.
  • Mailed website returns need facility processing by day 90; starting or mailing earlier does not preserve a refund.
  • Store/BOPIS purchases return in stores. Website/app orders can return in stores or by customer-paid, insured, trackable mail; no prepaid label is provided.
  • No-receipt credit uses the lowest selling price. Select stores apply ID checks and a $250 non-receipted limit per 90 days; defective merchandise is exempt from the limit.
  • Amazon and TikTok purchases go to the seller first. Authorized-seller fallback requests have a 90-day deadline; direct social-shop eligibility remains unclear.

The Bath and Body return policy branches by purchase channel; browse more US store return guides for other retailers.

*Original tender covers cash, card, debit and PayPal payments; online orders paid by gift card are refunded to a new emailed e-gift card. Gift-receipt, no-receipt and Reward-item rows show what that proof gets instead; a shipping confirmation email counts as a receipt for website orders.

The store policy, website policy and authorized-seller policy set these routes.

How Long Do You Have to Return to Bath & Body Works?

With an original receipt, Bath & Body Works refunds paid purchases to the original payment within 90 days of purchase, subject to payment-specific rules. The online refund help calls this the order date, rather than shipment or delivery.

Calendar versus business days, purchase-day counting, cutoff time and time zone are not published. Aim to finish the return a few days before day 90.

What happens after 90 days?

Eligible Bath & Body Works returns receive merchandise credit after 90 days. For online orders, refund help specifies an emailed e-gift card; the form, online usability, transferability and expiry of store-issued credit are not published.

No outer age limit for late credit is published. Condition requirements still apply; return early.

Which step has to happen by day 90?

Mailed website returns need facility processing within 90 days; website returns taken to a store must be received there within 90 days; the authorized-seller fallback needs the request submitted within 90 days. The website policy makes an early portal start insufficient.

Route Required within 90 days What does not secure eligibility If late
Website → store Store receives return (it must also be processed for a refund) Portal start Merchandise credit
Website → mail Return facility processes return Portal start, postmark or carrier delivery alone Merchandise credit
Authorized-seller fallback Submit Customer Care Return Request Seller contact alone Late-request route not published

Example: Start a mail return on day 80; facility processing happens 92 days after purchase. Assumption: day 92 falls outside the applicable 90-day count. The published result is merchandise credit despite the earlier start.

Near the deadline, take a website order to a store. The fallback’s post-authorization mailing deadline is not published; follow Customer Care’s instructions promptly.

Is there a 2026 holiday return extension?

As of October 28, 2026, Bath & Body Works had not published a 2026 holiday return extension, qualifying purchase range or extended deadline in the official pages checked. That does not establish whether Bath & Body Works will announce one.

Use the ordinary purchase-date rules and recheck the official policy hub before relying on an extension. Gifts returned with a gift receipt get merchandise credit, not a refund to the buyer’s payment.

Can You Return Used Bath & Body Works Products?

Yes. Bath & Body Works accepts gently used products and products defective in materials or craftsmanship, subject to its assessment. The policy excludes excessively worn or significantly used products and intentionally defaced labels; Bath & Body Works/White Barn decides compliance.

For candles, lotion and fragrance, no numerical remaining-product percentage, candle-burn count, universal packaging requirement or special hygiene exclusion is published. Keep labels intact and bring products back promptly.

Returning Without a Receipt or With a Gift Receipt

Without a receipt, Bath & Body Works issues merchandise credit at the item’s lowest selling price after applicable promotions, discounts, offers, qualifying free items and coupons. That can be less than you paid or the current ticket price, under the no-receipt policy.

A shipping confirmation email counts as a receipt. Card, phone, Rewards-account or email lookups, and an order-confirmation email alone, are not published substitutes; locate the shipping confirmation first.

A gift receipt produces credit at the stated purchase price, adjusted for offers and excluding shipping/handling. Website-order gift returns happen only in stores. For a beauty-retailer comparison, see how Ulta handles returns without a receipt.

The $250 limit and ID checks at select stores

Select US Bath & Body Works stores limit non-receipted returns/exchanges to $250 per 90-day period. Defective merchandise is exempt. Select stores also require government-issued ID and electronically scan or manually collect its information to monitor returns/exchanges.

The policy does not identify which stores apply these rules. Bring government-issued ID to any return without a receipt.

How to Return a Bath & Body Works Order

Website/app orders have two routes: store or mail. Store and Buy Online Pick Up In Store purchases have one: store. For an original-payment refund, a store return must be made within 90 days of purchase, and a mailed return must be processed at the facility by then.

Return a store or BOPIS purchase in store

  1. Use the official store locator to find a Bath & Body Works or White Barn store in the purchase country.
  2. Bring the item and receipt or applicable shipping confirmation.
  3. Ask for the return under the store purchase policy. The policy posted at the return store governs.

Return it within 90 days of purchase for an original-payment refund; store and BOPIS purchases cannot be mailed back. Instacart purchases with a receipt receive merchandise credit at the price paid; without one, no-receipt credit or exchange rules apply.

Take a website or app order to a store

  1. Open the official Narvar returns portal.
  2. Select the items and Visit a Store.
  3. Bring the products and digital or printed return slip to the store.

The checkpoint is the store receiving the return within 90 days; the portal date does not count. Complete the transaction at the counter so it is processed.

Mail a website or app order back

  1. Open the returns portal, select items and choose Ship it Back.
  2. Pack securely with the portal packing slip; use its return address. Give each order its own package and return label, with no more than 24 items per box.
  3. Choose a carrier and pay for insured, trackable shipping. Tell the carrier about flammable liquids or aerosols, including fragrance mists or sprays, for shipping guidance.
  4. Keep tracking. Bath & Body Works sends a Return Order Confirmation email after processing.

The mail instructions provide no prepaid label; pickup and printerless options are not published. Facility processing by day 90 is the refund checkpoint, so avoid assuming carrier delivery is enough.

Packing limits: 24 items and one order per box

Bath & Body Works says packages exceeding 24 items are discarded without processing, replacement or refund. Different orders combined in one box cannot be processed even below that cap; ineligible mailed items also face discard without refund.

The website policy does not explain splitting one order exceeding 24 items across boxes. Ask Customer Care before shipping.

Who Pays Return Shipping, and Are There Fees?

The shopper pays mail-return postage. Bath & Body Works supplies no prepaid label and publishes no fixed deduction or postage amount; choose insured, trackable shipping under its website policy. Older guides still quote a fixed deduction or free prepaid labels; neither appears in the current policy.

Charge What Bath & Body Works publishes
Mail postage/insurance Customer-paid; no fixed cost
Restocking or in-store return fee No fee listed; universal fee-free guarantee not published
Original shipping/handling Excluded from standard refunds/credit
Damaged/wrong-item replacement delivery Free standard shipping, if a replacement is available
Damaged/wrong-item original delivery or return postage Reimbursement not published

For damaged or wrong goods, ask support about shipping before paying a carrier. Free replacement delivery does not mean postage is reimbursed.

When Will You Get Your Bath & Body Works Refund?

Bath & Body Works allows up to 14 business days to process and issue a direct mail-return refund, but does not name the event starting that allowance.

Three clocks

Stage Store purchase return Website order → store Website order → mail
Return window Within 90 days of purchase for original tender Received in store within 90 days Facility processing within 90 days
Retailer processing/issuance Not published Not published Up to 14 business days; start event not published
Bank/provider posting Not published Online help: allow up to 30 days, particularly PayPal/Apple Pay Online help: allow up to 30 days, particularly PayPal/Apple Pay

The refund help page separately gives 3–5 business days for original-payment refunds within 90 days of order, without defining the countdown trigger. An email follows issuance. Do not add this estimate to the 14-business-day allowance as a guaranteed total. If posting has not occurred after the stated 30-day allowance, contact Customer Care.

Where the money goes

Payment/proof Destination
Card, debit or PayPal; original receipt, within 90 days Original tender
Cash store purchase; original receipt, within 90 days Original tender
Online gift-card/e-gift-card payment New e-gift card by email
Online return after 90 days Emailed e-gift card
Store return after 90 days Merchandise credit; form not published
Gift receipt/no receipt Merchandise credit
Reward-redeemed item, with or without receipt In-store merchandise credit at lowest selling price, or exchange
Authorized-seller fallback Check or e-gift card after processing

The policies prorate promotions, coupons and qualifying free items into refund value and exclude original shipping/handling.

Exchanges at Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works’ store exchange test is the same product type and the same ticket price, rather than the sale price paid. Website-order exchanges happen only in stores; online exchanges are unavailable, so the retailer suggests returning and placing a new order.

Example: A sale-bought three-wick candle is exchanged for another fragrance. Assumption: both candles have the same ticket price and the replacement is available. That meets the published exchange test.

Pay-the-difference swaps, holds, exchange fees and guaranteed stock are not published. Price adjustments are separate: one time within 14 days of purchase, with no cross-channel matching. Compare Sephora’s return rules if choosing between beauty retailers.

How Returns Affect Bath & Body Works Rewards Points

Bath & Body Works returns, refunds and adjustments deduct eligible spend or points and can create a negative balance offset by later earnings. If a return breaks an offer’s qualifying requirement, all associated bonus points are removed.

Hype Lab Drops cannot be bought with Rewards.

Can you exchange an item you got with a Reward?

With a receipt, Bath & Body Works allows an in-store exchange for another Reward-eligible item. With or without a receipt, you can instead ask for in-store merchandise credit at the lowest selling price after relevant promotions; without a receipt, normal exchange conditions apply, according to Reward-item return help.

The loyalty terms say used Rewards are not reissued.

Damaged, Wrong or Faulty Items

Bath & Body Works directs shipped-order problems to chat and BOPIS problems to Customer Care:

  • Damaged shipped item: Open chat, enter damage and follow the damage-help prompts. Available replacements ship free by standard shipping to the same address; alternatively, refunds use original payment, or a new emailed e-gift card for gift-card payments.
  • Wrong shipped item: Chat with the order number for verification. Available replacements use free standard shipping to the same address; refund destinations follow the same payment rules.
  • Damaged or missing BOPIS item: Contact Customer Care to resolve the order problem; a specific remedy is not published there.
  • Materials/craftsmanship defect: The general policy permits return, credit or exchange. Defective merchandise is exempt from the select-store $250 non-receipted limit.

A separate reporting deadline, universal direct-purchase photo requirement, broken-glass disposal instructions and automatic fee waivers are not published. Report promptly; keep the item and packaging pending support instructions, and ask support how to handle broken glass.

What if a Wallflowers plug stops working?

A Wallflowers plug disabled by its overheating safety mechanism can be taken to any Bath & Body Works store for replacement, subject to the return policy. The Wallflowers guidance covers this shutdown. Other plug defects fall under the general materials-or-craftsmanship rule.

What Bath & Body Works Won’t Take Back

Bath & Body Works excludes these products or routes:

  • Physical/electronic gift cards: No returns or exchanges; no cash redemption except where applicable law requires it.
  • Products identified as made-on-demand: The Terms of Use exclude returns/exchanges unless goods arrive damaged or incorrect through retailer error; contact support for that exception.
  • Excessively worn, significantly used or intentionally label-defaced products: These fail the condition rules.
  • Social-shop/authorized-seller purchases through standard returns: Start with the seller instead.

Drops limited releases are returnable under the general policy. No blanket final-sale, clearance, Semi-Annual Sale, outlet-only restriction or separate subscription window is published. Flash Sales, promotions of 48 hours or less, Candle Day and email-offer exclusions concern price adjustments, not return exclusions.

Amazon, TikTok and Other Sellers: The Authorized-Seller Route

Amazon and TikTok purchases go back to the seller under its policy; standard Bath & Body Works store/online returns do not accept them. Start with Amazon’s return process for an Amazon purchase.

The authorized-seller fallback covers original US end-user purchasers of new, gently used or defective products unable to return them after contacting an authorized seller:

  1. Contact the seller and keep proof of the attempted return.
  2. Submit the Authorized Seller Return Request to Customer Care within 90 days of purchase. Include seller name, receipt showing place/price/date, reason, attempted-return evidence, product photo and anything else requested. Incomplete requests are denied.
  3. Follow the retailer’s mailing instructions and pay shipping. The product must be received, inspected and fully processed.
  4. After processing, refund processing takes approximately 21–28 business days by check or 7–10 business days by e-gift card, for the original purchase price.

Inspection duration, check delivery and bank clearing are not published. Unauthorized sellers are excluded unless law prohibits the exclusion; Customer Care can confirm authorization.

Can you return a TikTok purchase to Bath & Body Works?

Not through standard store or online returns: the store and website policies direct social-shop purchases to the seller. The authorized-seller policy words it differently, excluding direct social shops from its fallback while directing direct buyers back to those standard policies.

Start the shop’s return process immediately and keep order records and seller messages. If refused, contact Customer Care well before day 90 for the binding route for your order; neither the fallback nor a store return is assured.

Bath and Body Return Policy Mistakes to Avoid

  • Counting from delivery: This risks missing the refund threshold; count from purchase/order date.
  • Mailing near day 90: A postmark cannot preserve original-payment eligibility; take it to a store instead.
  • Combining orders or packing 25+ items: Combined orders cannot be processed; over-cap packages face discard without refund. Keep orders separate and ask support about large orders.
  • Expecting prepaid postage: Arrange and pay for insured, trackable shipping.
  • Expecting receipt-free credit at the price paid: Credit uses the lowest selling price; find the shipping confirmation first.
  • Choosing an unlike exchange: Match product type and ticket price; ask before expecting another arrangement.

FAQ

Can I return Semi-Annual Sale items to Bath & Body Works?

Bath & Body Works publishes no blanket Semi-Annual Sale return exclusion in its general policy. Standard condition, proof and timing rules still apply. A receipted refund reflects promotions rather than full ticket price, so a sale purchase does not produce a refund above its adjusted purchase value.

Will a coupon or free item reduce my refund?

Bath & Body Works prorates coupons, discounts, promotions and qualifying free items when calculating refunds or gift-receipt credit under its policy. Expect the adjusted purchase value rather than the shelf price. Without a receipt, merchandise credit instead uses the lowest selling price after applicable offers and coupons.

Can I use Bath & Body Works merchandise credit online?

Bath & Body Works specifies an emailed e-gift card for late online returns in its refund help. The published policies do not define online redemption, transferability or expiry for every store-issued merchandise-credit instrument. Ask the issuing store about your credit before assuming it works on the website or app.

Can I return a Bath & Body Works purchase in another country?

No. Bath & Body Works requires returns, exchanges and price adjustments in the country where you purchased the product, according to its store policy. For a US purchase, plan a US return. The availability of a store in another country does not establish eligibility to return a US order there.

Does a federal three-day cancellation rule cover my order?

No, for an ordinary wholly online or permanent-store purchase. The FTC Cooling-Off Rule excludes those channels, so it does not create a general three-day cancellation right for this order. The Bath and Body return policy’s 90-day original-payment threshold is the retailer’s own offer, subject to its conditions.
