Selfridges Returns Policy: Deadlines, Free Returns and Refunds

The Selfridges returns policy gives UK online shoppers 14 days from delivery or Click & Collect pickup to notify Selfridges, then a further 14 days to return eligible goods using free approved routes. Store purchases have 14 days from purchase. Voluntary returns must be unused, with packaging and tags intact; exceptions apply.

How Long Do You Have to Return to Selfridges?

Selfridges allows online shoppers 14 days to notify, then a further 14 days to return; ordinary store purchases have 14 days from purchase. The returns page and terms, clause 13.1, set out these rules. Selfridges does not say how day one is counted, whether these are calendar or working days, or what the cut-off time is, so notify well before day 14.

How does the two-stage online deadline work?

Selfridges starts the second 14-day period when you notify it, rather than automatically giving everyone the same final deadline. Notify on day 3 and the further 14 days run from day 3, so this is not 28 days from delivery.

  1. Notify or arrange your return through the official returns portal within 14 days of delivery or collection.
  2. Return the goods within a further 14 days from notification.

Notification is the first deadline; clause 13.4 says warehouse receipt within that initial period is unnecessary. Selfridges does not define whether dispatch, carrier scan or arrival satisfies the second period: drop off early and keep proof.

UK law separately counts cancellation from the day after you take possession, or after the last delivery of a split order (regulation 30), and GOV.UK confirms a further 14 days to send goods back after notifying; regulation 35 as made uses a sending or handing-over test.

Store purchases: 14 days from the purchase date

Selfridges store purchases must go back to a store within 14 days of purchase, subject to exceptions. Non-faulty goods bought in person generally have no statutory change-of-mind refund right, as GOV.UK explains. If you are choosing between department stores for a big-ticket buy, the John Lewis return policy guide sets out its window for comparison.

Are sale items treated differently?

Yes. The returns page gives discounted store purchases 14 days for exchange or gift card only, while terms 14.6 say seven days for discounted products returned in store. Return a discounted store purchase within seven days and expect exchange or gift card; confirm with Customer Services. Online sale purchases retain the usual policy, but use post because the seven-day store wording's scope is unresolved.

Is there a Selfridges Christmas 2026 returns extension?

No Christmas 2026 returns extension could be verified on Selfridges' publicly readable pages as of 29 October 2026. Its Christmas FAQ answers could not be read, so an extension may already exist or be announced later. Unless Selfridges confirms one, online gifts follow the normal rule: notify within 14 days of delivery or collection, then return within a further 14 days. Recheck the official returns page before relying on a later date.

What Condition Must a Selfridges Return Be In?

Selfridges requires voluntary returns to be unused and resalable, with original packaging and labels in good condition, tags and security seals intact, plus dust bags and authenticity labels. Proof of purchase is required under the returns terms.

Condition-related deductions may apply, with no general fixed amount. Return promotional gifts too: Selfridges may deduct their value if the return removes eligibility or the gift's condition fails. Only the price paid is refunded.

How to Return a Selfridges Order

Selfridges provides postal, collection and eligible in-person routes on its returns page. Check payment and brand restrictions before arranging transport.

By post with Royal Mail Labels to Go

The terms reserve Royal Mail for returns worth under £1,000; for higher values, use the portal's courier option or Customer Services (see Free courier collection below).

  1. Request an emailed Royal Mail Labels to Go QR code through the Selfridges returns portal.
  2. Pack the eligible goods with the completed delivery note or returns form.
  3. Take the parcel and QR code to a Post Office or Royal Mail Customer Service Point, where the label is printed.
  4. Keep proof of postage and tracking.

Check that the label has printed before you leave the counter. A replacement delivery-note route and public warehouse address are not published in the general guidance: ask Customer Services for help rather than using an address found elsewhere.

Free courier collection

The returns page lists Royal Mail collection for orders £101–£999 and DPD for orders £201+. The terms instead use returned-product value: below £1,000 Royal Mail; over £1,000 and under £5,000 portal courier; over £5,000 Customer Services-arranged collection. Exactly £1,000 and £5,000 are omitted. Start in the portal; for returns worth £1,000 or more, confirm with Customer Services before sending. Keep the collection or tracking card as proof of handover.

Returning an online order in a Selfridges store

Take eligible goods in person with the delivery note and payment card, except for gift card, eVoucher, PayPal or Alipay+ payments, under clause 13.9. Check acceptance before travelling: travel costs are not reimbursed.

Online orders that can't be returned in store

Selfridges restricts these online store returns under its returns exceptions and terms:

  • Klarna orders: use post or authorised collection.
  • Christian Louboutin, Prada except beauty and sunglasses, and The Diamond Lab: use complimentary post or courier. (Prada beauty is still caught by the beauty exclusion below.)
  • Large technology, such as televisions and sound systems: arrange another route.
  • Cartier: official pages differ; confirm the route before visiting.
  • Listed fine jewellery brands: use their specific Wonder Room boutique or Customer Services, as detailed below.

Are Selfridges Returns Free?

Yes, Selfridges' published UK postal and authorised courier routes are free, without a membership requirement. Using your own carrier or an unapproved process puts the cost and transit risk on you under the terms.

Charge or deduction Published rule
Approved UK return postage/collection Free
Self-arranged carrier Your cost
Opened named-supplier technology Possible 20% deduction, subject to conditions below
Condition-related deduction No fixed amount published
Missing/ineligible promotional gift Gift value may be deducted

No general restocking fee or per-item or per-parcel fee basis is published; ask Customer Services about any proposed deduction. Compare the Debenhams return-cost guide if choosing between department stores.

Will Selfridges refund your delivery charge?

Yes, standard UK original delivery is refundable under terms 14.3. Premium delivery is refunded at least at the standard rate; any extra is discretionary. Partial returns from the same address get no delivery refund, and Click & Collect has no delivery charge. Contact Customer Services to claim the delivery refund.

How Long Do Selfridges Refunds Take?

Selfridges' refunds page says card refunds are issued within five days of receipt, with providers taking up to 14 days to credit. The terms instead give 14 days from receipt or proof of sending, then appearance within five days depending on the issuer. Allow for the longer readings—14 days for Selfridges and up to 14 for the provider—before chasing Customer Services; these are not a guaranteed combined total.

Card-provider posting Refunds page: up to 14 days; terms: within five days depending on issuer

Day units are not expressly calendar or working days. Watch for the refund-confirmation email.

The refunds page warns that goods lost or damaged in transit cannot be refunded, but its scope for authorised labels is unclear; the terms explicitly assign risk for unapproved processes. Use approved labels or collection and retain tracking.

PayPal, Alipay+, Klarna and Clearpay refunds

PayPal/Alipay+ postal or courier refunds return to the same account. For store returns, the refunds page says exchange or gift card only; the terms also describe forwarding goods to the delivery centre for an original-account refund, potentially taking up to 10 days. Use post or courier for account repayment; ask staff which route applies before handing goods over.

Klarna and Clearpay adjust schedules or refund overpayments. Provider posting times and Clearpay store eligibility are not published: confirm before travelling. Only Klarna has an express store ban.

Gift card, eVoucher and split payments

The refunds page and terms 14.2(c) say gift card and eVoucher payments return as a gift card in store or an eVoucher by post or courier; clause 8.17 instead says eVoucher-funded returns receive eVouchers. Ask staff which medium you will get before handing goods over. Clause 8.17 says physical refund gift cards expire two years after the return. Mixed payments refund the card first, up to its original contribution, under clause 14.2(d).

Example: Assume a £150 item is fully returned without deductions, paid with £100 by card and £50 by gift card. The refund is £100 to the card and £50 as a gift card in store or an eVoucher by post or courier (eVoucher-paid amounts may come back as an eVoucher in store; see above).

Can You Exchange an Item at Selfridges?

Yes, eligible exchanges happen only in store at Click & Collect, never by post or courier, according to the exchange instructions. Klarna and brand restrictions apply. Exchange fees, price differences and stock holds are not published: confirm before travelling. Alternatively, return and reorder; check M&S exchange and exclusion rules when comparing another department-store range.

Can You Return to Selfridges Without a Receipt?

Selfridges requires proof of purchase, rather than specifying an original till receipt as the only proof. Online returns use the delivery note or returns form; online orders returned in a store also need the payment card, with the exceptions above, under clause 13.9.

Gift-receipt rules, gift-recipient refunds and card lookups are not published: ask the buyer for order paperwork. GOV.UK's bank-statement or packaging alternatives concern legal rights, not a confirmed Selfridges voluntary-return lookup.

Items Selfridges Won't Take Back

Selfridges' voluntary exclusions cover:

  • Bespoke, altered, personalised and made-to-order goods.
  • Pre-loved or vintage goods, except RESELFRIDGES leather goods.
  • Newspapers, periodicals and magazines; event tickets.
  • Hampers, food, drinks, flowers and perishables.
  • Face coverings; beauty, fragrance, toiletries and cosmetics.
  • Underwear: briefs, boxers, bodysuits, shapewear, hosiery and stick-on bras.
  • Swimwear without its hygiene seal; pierced jewellery.
  • Gift cards and eVouchers; unsealed electronics.

These retailer exclusions do not replace statutory rights.

Can you return unopened perfume or beauty to Selfridges?

Do not count on a voluntary return: Selfridges lists beauty and fragrance without an unopened exception. Ask Customer Services before sending. Statutory cancellation exclusions are different: regulation 28 covers hygiene-sealed goods unsealed after delivery; sealed beauty is not a blanket exclusion, although individual eligibility needs assessment.

Fine jewellery, watches and the Wonder Room

Selfridges' exceptions page limits fine jewellery and watches bought in any Selfridges store to exchange or credit note, not a money refund; statutory rights remain. Wonder Room purchases must return to the Wonder Room; for other in-store fine-jewellery counters, confirm the arrangement with Customer Services. Online Boucheron, Bulgari, Chanel, Chanel Fine Jewellery & Watches, Chaumet, Chopard, De Beers, Messika, Tiffany & Co and Van Cleef & Arpels purchases use their respective boutique or Customer Services-arranged complimentary return.

For Cartier, the exceptions page includes boutique returns, while terms 13.10/13.12 require courier and prohibit store returns. Contact Customer Services before visiting.

Technology and named third-party suppliers

Selfridges' supplier terms require delivery-note instructions for B & O Play Headphones, Smartech, CompuB, Samsung, Conran Shop, Roxanne First, Monica Vinader, Alkemistry, Ladurée, Eversfield and Rachel Jackson. Other technology, furniture and luxury brands may have their own policies: ask Customer Services.

Opened technology from the four named technology suppliers may be considered with all packaging, accessories and manuals, with a possible 20% deduction. Example: Assume an accepted £200 opened product from a named technology supplier has all required parts and the deduction applies. Selfridges deducts £40, refunding £160. Opening electronics alone does not automatically justify that deduction under statutory cancellation rules. Under regulation 28, sealed audio or video recordings and sealed computer software lose the statutory cancellation right once unsealed after delivery. Opening an electronics box is not the same as breaking that seal, and fault rights are unaffected.

Selfridges+, Unlocked and Frequent Returns

Selfridges publishes no extended merchandise window or preferential refund terms for Plus or Unlocked members, so the ordinary window for the purchase applies.

An unused Plus subscription itself can be cancelled through Customer Services within 30 days of purchase if no deliveries were ordered; cancellation cannot be completed online; this is a subscription rule, not a returns window. The general terms also allow discretionary account closure for repeated returns, with no numerical threshold published; statutory remedies remain separate.

Faulty Items and Your UK Consumer Rights

Selfridges directs damaged or poor-quality goods to Customer Services or +44 (0)20 7160 6222. Under clause 15.3, poor-quality deliveries can be reported for a full refund within 30 days of delivery, or for repair or replacement; photo requirements and inspection time are not published.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally provides a 30-day short-term right to reject, starting the day after ownership or possession, delivery and any required installation; later statutory remedies remain, and short-life perishables can have a shorter reasonable period. Section 20 requires reasonable return costs to be covered, except personal returns to where possession was taken; refunds are due within 14 days of agreeing entitlement, using the same payment method unless agreed otherwise, without a fee.

Repair or replacement rights require reasonable time, no significant inconvenience and retailer-funded costs; impossible or disproportionate remedies may be refused. Citizens Advice explains fault rights for new and second-hand goods; sale goods retain statutory rights.

Regulation 34 includes basic delivery; handling beyond necessary inspection permits diminished-value deductions, subject to required information. Refunds use original payment unless agreed otherwise, without fees: without offered collection, within 14 days of receipt or earlier sending proof; otherwise, within 14 days of notice.

This guide cannot see order-specific portal options: ask Customer Services to confirm your route where official pages differ.

Damaged or wilting flowers

Named suppliers The Real Flower Company, Moyses Stevens, Your London Florist, Canopy Plants, The Urban Botanist and Aoyama Flower Market offer a five-day bouquet guarantee from delivery if care instructions are followed. The flower terms request transit-damage reports within 24 hours; retain the flowers for possible replacement or full refund.

Selfridges Returns Policy Mistakes That Cost You Money

  • Waiting to notify: online returns require notice within 14 days, then return within a further 14.
  • Choosing your own courier: unapproved processes put cost and transit risk on you.
  • Returning half an order and expecting original delivery back: partial returns from the same address do not qualify.
  • Taking Klarna, Louboutin or restricted Prada orders to a store: check routing first.
  • Keeping a promotional gift: its value may be deducted.
  • Expecting a money refund for an in-store sale purchase: the voluntary offer is exchange or gift card.

Questions shoppers ask

Do I need a Selfridges membership to get free returns?

No membership is stated as necessary for Selfridges' free UK postal or authorised courier routes. Use the retailer's portal and approved process; choosing your own carrier puts transport costs and transit risk on you. Store returns cost no postage, but travel costs are not reimbursed.

What happens to my Unlocked keys when I return something?

Selfridges adjusts your Unlocked key balance after online or store returns, according to its membership terms. Do not assume keys from a returned purchase remain available. Membership does not create a published longer returns window, so arrange any eligible return within the ordinary deadline for that purchase.

Can I post my return straight to a Selfridges store?

No. Selfridges' terms say online parcels posted directly to stores cannot be refunded through that route. Eligible store returns must be taken in person, with the required paperwork and payment card where applicable. For a postal return, use the official portal's label rather than addressing the parcel to a store.

How do I return an item over £5,000?

Contact Selfridges Customer Services to arrange an authorised collection for returned goods worth over £5,000. Do not select a carrier yourself. The terms omit exactly £5,000, so confirm that boundary too. Keep the completed delivery note with the goods and retain the collection or tracking card as handover evidence.

Who handles returns of store purchases delivered with Selfridges+?

Selfridges directs these returns to StoreReturns@Selfridges.co.uk in its Plus terms. Contact that team directly for the appropriate arrangement rather than assuming delivery turns a store purchase into an online order. The ordinary 14-day store-purchase window and category exclusions still apply.
