How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Aldi?
Aldi UK gives ordinary store purchases 60 days, with the item brought back into store. Aldi does not define the starting event, calendar versus working days, whether purchase day counts or the exact cut-off time, so return well before the boundary.
Aldi does not say that calling or messaging customer service stops the clock; only bringing the item into store is stated. Before travelling, check the item's condition and any category exception.
What Condition Does an Aldi Return Need to Be In?
Aldi requires change-of-mind returns to be resaleable, with original packaging and a receipt, subject to the receipt alternatives below. Faulty items are expressly exempt from the resaleability requirement.
The general FAQ publishes no universal unopened-only rule, tag requirement or clearance exclusion. Packaging instructions under the voluntary policy should not be treated as a prerequisite for a statutory faulty-goods remedy.
Returning Petrol-Powered Tools and Multi-Piece Sets
Aldi requires every part of a multi-piece set to be returned. Check the contents before packing rather than taking back only the unwanted component.
Safety: for petrol-powered equipment, empty the fuel tank and air the equipment for 24 hours before bringing it into store, as instructed in Aldi's store returns FAQ.
Does Aldi Extend Returns for Christmas 2026?
As of 29 October 2026, no Christmas 2026 return extension, eligible purchase dates or extended deadline had been verified in the official sources checked. Plan around the published 60-day rule rather than assuming an overseas Aldi extension applies.
Gift buyers should keep the receipt because gift refunds go to the purchaser.
How to Return an Item to Aldi in Store
Aldi's published general route is an in-store return. Follow these steps, using the category-specific instructions where they differ:
- Check the category. Chilled food, school uniform and Deliveroo orders have separate rules below.
- Gather the evidence and contents. Bring the receipt or supported statement alternative, original packaging and every part of a set.
- Choose the store. Use Aldi's Store Finder. For ordinary returns, use the purchase store or ask first about another branch; only the uniform terms expressly promise any-store returns.
- Bring the item back within 60 days for an ordinary return, well before the end of the window.
- Ask before travelling if eligibility is unclear. Use Aldi's product help/contact form, especially for an uncertain proof or condition issue.
Aldi does not publish an ordinary return fee. To compare other retailers' rules, browse more UK store guides.
Can You Return Aldi Items by Post?
Aldi UK publishes no general merchandise postal return route, prepaid label or return address. Its website terms also state that Click & Collect has been discontinued.
Uniform terms mention online returns but give no operational instructions: use a store or contact Aldi. For household items bought elsewhere online, consult our Argos returns guide for that retailer's process.
Exchanges at Aldi
Aldi does not publish a general exchange entitlement. The uniform guarantee is refund-only; gift-card terms referring to lower-value exchanges do not establish a universal right to swap goods.
Can You Return to Aldi Without a Receipt?
Often, Aldi provides another evidence route, but the route depends on the product and complaint. Packaging alone is a grocery-complaint alternative, not a general substitute for a non-food receipt.
| Situation | What to bring | Source FAQ or terms |
|---|---|---|
| Non-food complaint | Copy or digital bank statement so the manager can find the receipt | See Aldi's non-food complaint guidance. |
| Grocery complaint | Packaging; if both receipt and packaging are missing, a bank statement for manager lookup | See Aldi's grocery complaint guidance. |
| Chilled/frozen quality problem | Receipt; this specific FAQ gives no alternative | See Aldi's chilled and frozen FAQ. |
| Uniform guarantee | Proof of purchase | See Aldi's uniform terms. |
Aldi does not publish an ID-only, gift-receipt, card-number-only or no-proof approval route, or automatic store credit. Separately, GOV.UK recognises bank statements or packaging as possible statutory proof; see faulty goods and legal rights. Food complaints need particular care because the category can change both the evidence and the return action.
Aldi Food Returns: Chilled, Frozen and Fresh Produce
Aldi's food rules distinguish unwanted chilled or frozen products from quality complaints and unsatisfactory produce.
Can You Return Chilled or Frozen Food to Aldi?
No, Aldi does not accept chilled or frozen food simply because you changed your mind, because Aldi says it cannot verify the cold chain for safe resale. For a quality problem, Aldi asks you to bring the receipt into store for a refund; the FAQ asks for the receipt, not the food itself.
Aldi's Fresh Guarantee on Fruit and Vegetables
Aldi's Fresh Guarantee promises a full refund for unsatisfactory fruit and vegetables when returned. That page gives no separate deadline or proof rule; the grocery complaint FAQ supplies 60-day guidance and packaging or statement alternatives.
The statutory rejection period can be shorter than 30 days for perishables; it is not a freshness promise lasting a month. Compare our Tesco return policy guide and Sainsbury's return policy guide for other supermarket purchases. Aldi school clothing has a different, longer guarantee.
Aldi School Uniform Guarantee: 12 Months
Aldi's Back to School guarantee offers a 12-month full refund for faulty or non-faulty named clothing, with proof of purchase, at any store. Exchanges are unavailable under this guarantee.
The covered items are:
- Children’s Shirts 3 Pack
- Children’s Polo Shirt 2 Pack
- Children’s Trousers
- Classic Pinafore 2 Pack
- Pleated Skirt
- White T-Shirt 2 Pack
- Jersey Skirt
- Jersey Pinafore 2 Pack
- Children’s Sweatshirt
- Children’s Cargo Shorts
- Children’s Cardigan
- Children’s Tights
- Children’s Socks
Stationery, backpacks and lunchboxes are excluded. Aldi does not specify the exact start event or final cut-off, or guarantee-specific worn, washed, packaging or tag conditions. The terms mention online returns but give no instructions, so use a store.
Example: assume a Classic Pinafore 2 Pack and a backpack were bought six months ago, and the receipt is available. Six months is within the pinafore's 12-month guarantee; the backpack is excluded from that guarantee. If the purchase was a gift, the purchaser rule also matters.
Can You Return a Gift Someone Bought You at Aldi?
Aldi says it can refund only the person who bought the gift, so the recipient should ask the buyer. Aldi's gift FAQ publishes no gift-recipient store-credit exception or gift-receipt route.
Aldi Gift Cards and Vouchers
Aldi's physical and digital gift cards cannot themselves be returned or refunded except under legal rights. Under the gift-card terms, refunds owed for goods bought with a physical card may go to its balance and/or equivalent paper gift vouchers. The digital-card refund destination is not published; ask Aldi before relying on a particular payment route.
Purchases through vouchers.aldi.co.uk have separate terms, applying to vouchers only:
- Cancel for a change of mind within 14 days beginning the day after delivery.
- Contact 0800 042 0800 or vouchers@aldi.co.uk to arrange collection or return.
- Aldi pays return costs for faulty or misdescribed vouchers and certain Aldi-related cancellation reasons listed in the terms; otherwise the customer pays. Tampering or customer-impeded returns can cause deductions; amounts are unpublished.
- Refunds may be held until vouchers or proof of sending arrive. Aldi emails when processed; account posting can take up to three working days. Refunds typically use the original payment method.
These are the voucher-site cancellation and refund terms, not ordinary store rules or the Deliveroo process below.
Aldi Deliveroo Orders: Returns and Refunds
Aldi describes a Deliveroo trial in participating UK stores: a rider shops and pays using a Deliveroo-issued prepaid card. For a physical return, start through the Deliveroo app, then take the product to Aldi; that refund follows only after an Aldi employee accepts it.
Aldi says items that are unavailable are refunded automatically.
For missing or incorrect items, delivery problems or refunds, use Account → Orders → your order → Order Help. Aldi's Deliveroo order-help FAQ says its help team cannot see those orders. General support is under Account → Help; recalled Deliveroo purchases also go through Order Help.
Aldi does not publish the Deliveroo return window, fees, refund destination or refund timings, or say whether Aldi or Deliveroo is the seller for these orders. Check Order Help for your order before relying on a timing.
When Will You Get Your Aldi Refund?
Aldi UK does not publish ordinary store-return refund timings or the ordinary cash/card refund destination, split-payment allocation or original-card requirement. If it matters where the money goes (for example, the card you paid with has been closed), ask the store before you travel. Older guides quote fixed waiting periods that Aldi's UK FAQs do not support.
| Route | Return window | Aldi processing | Bank/provider posting | Refund destination |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary store return | 60 days | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Deliveroo: physical item return | Not published | Refund only after Aldi staff acceptance; duration not published | Not published | Not published |
| vouchers.aldi.co.uk | 14 days from day after delivery | May await vouchers/proof of sending; email when processed; duration not published | Up to 3 working days after processing | Typically original payment method |
| Goods bought with physical gift card | 60 days ordinarily | Not published | Not applicable | Card balance and/or paper vouchers |
| Statutory rejection: law, not voluntary policy | Generally 30 days to tell the trader you reject the goods, from the day after transfer/delivery and any required installation; perishables can be shorter | Refund within 14 days beginning when trader agrees entitlement | Not published | Same payment means unless expressly agreed otherwise; no refund fee |
Keep the receipt and statement until the refund appears. The legal refund deadline has its own trigger, explained next.
Faulty Aldi Products, Warranties and Your Legal Rights
Aldi's voluntary return policy, a product warranty and statutory remedies are separate routes. A fault after 60 days does not automatically end your rights against the seller.
Does an Aldi Warranty Replace Your Legal Rights?
No. Aldi's warranty FAQ directs warranty claims to the warranty company, using details on the card, packaging or product; otherwise try Aldi's Warranties & Manuals page.
Statutory seller remedies can continue after a warranty expires. The warranty referral does not make manufacturer contact compulsory for every faulty-goods claim.
Your Rights Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 generally gives qualifying faulty goods a 30-day short-term rejection period, counted from the first day after transfer, delivery and any required trader installation are complete. Section 22 allows a shorter reasonable lifespan for perishables.
To use this right, clearly tell the seller within that period that you are rejecting the goods and want a refund, keep a record of it, then return the goods or make them available for collection as agreed.
After that, repair or replacement can apply within a reasonable time, without significant inconvenience and at the trader's necessary cost, subject to impossibility or disproportionate cost. A price reduction or final rejection may follow an unsuccessful attempt, unavailable remedies or failure to meet those requirements; a later full refund is not unconditional.
Under section 20, an agreed rejection refund must be given without undue delay and within 14 days beginning when the trader agrees entitlement. The trader bears reasonable return costs except your costs of returning in person to where you took possession.
GOV.UK's returns guidance recognises alternative purchase evidence, confirms sale goods retain statutory rights and distinguishes in-store change of mind from legal fault remedies. Ordinary in-store purchases have no automatic legal change-of-mind refund. Original packaging is not a blanket statutory prerequisite.
For qualifying distance purchases, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give a separate 14-day cancellation period that normally ends 14 days after the day you receive the goods. GOV.UK says you must tell the seller within that period and then have a further 14 days to send the goods back. Exceptions include rapidly perishable and unsealed hygiene goods, and this rule does not automatically apply to Deliveroo orders.
This guide cannot predict a manager's decision on a borderline item, a cash purchase without proof or day 60: Aldi does not publish those rules. How StoreReturners checks policies explains the evidence behind this guide.
Aldi Return Policy Mistakes That Cost UK Shoppers
Use the return policy Aldi publishes for UK stores when preparing a return:
- Relying on overseas guides: some guides quote Aldi's US or Australian rules, such as a 90-day window or a double guarantee; Aldi UK publishes 60 days and a refund.
- Returning unwanted chilled food: the change-of-mind exclusion still applies within 60 days.
- Discarding packaging or set pieces: ordinary returns require original packaging and complete sets.
- Taking in petrol equipment with fuel: empty the tank and allow 24 hours' airing first.
- Expecting a gift-recipient cash refund: Aldi directs refunds to the purchaser.
- Claiming a backpack under the uniform guarantee: only the named clothing qualifies.
- Asking Aldi's help team about Deliveroo: use Deliveroo Order Help instead.
Questions shoppers ask
Does Aldi charge a fee to return items?
Aldi does not publish an ordinary store-return or restocking fee, so a universal fee-free promise is unsupported. Voucher-site return costs depend on the cancellation reason: Aldi pays for faulty or misdescribed vouchers and listed Aldi-related reasons; otherwise the customer pays. Ask the relevant team before arranging a return.
Can I return something to a different Aldi store?
Aldi's general returns FAQ says to bring the item into store but does not explicitly promise every UK branch will accept it. The school-uniform guarantee expressly allows any store. For an ordinary item, use the purchase branch or ask Aldi before making a trip to another location.
Can I return a Specialbuy to Aldi?
Aldi publishes no separate Specialbuy return deadline in the verified sources. An ordinary UK store purchase follows the 60-day FAQ and its conditions, subject to category exceptions. For faults, check the warranty route as well as statutory rights against the seller; the voluntary period does not replace those rights.
Can I return a Too Good To Go bag from Aldi?
Aldi identifies Too Good To Go as a partner, but its partner FAQs do not publish a return or refund rule for surprise bags. Do not assume the ordinary store policy applies. Check the terms attached to your purchase and ask through that purchase route before taking a bag back.
Does the myALDI app give longer returns or store receipts?
Aldi's verified sources do not establish a myALDI receipt-storage entitlement, return-window extension or loyalty return benefit. Do not rely on an app account as your only purchase evidence. Keep the receipt or supported statement evidence and use the category rules above when following the Aldi return policy.
