Costco Price Match Policy: Competitors, 30-Day Adjustments & Limits

Costco's price match policy does not cover other retailers in the US; Costco says it does not price match with them. Its price match form is really a price adjustment: if Costco.com lowers its own price on an eligible item within 30 days of purchase, you can request the difference online. Warehouse purchases go to the original warehouse's Returns counter.

Key facts

  • Costco does not match Amazon, Walmart, Sam's Club or any other retailer.
  • Eligible Costco.com price drops within 30 days of purchase may qualify; dated-sale requests must also arrive during the promotion.
  • Costco.com orders use the sign-in request form; warehouse purchases go to the original warehouse's Returns counter.
  • Approved online credits return to the original payment method, typically 5–10 business days after approval.
  • Precious metals and resale purchases do not qualify, promotional quantity limits apply, and Costco may deny any request.

The adjustment conditions come from Costco's Costco.com price match policy, and the route depends on where you bought.

Does Costco Price Match Other Retailers?

No. Costco's competitor-matching answer says, “we do not price match with other retailers.” An identical model elsewhere does not change that rule; there is no qualifying competitor list or distance test.

The FTC's online-shopping advice treats price matching and later-sale refunds as questions for the seller's own policy, not a legal entitlement.

Does Costco Match Amazon, Walmart or Sam's Club?

Costco does not match Amazon, Walmart or Sam's Club, online or in stores. Guides suggesting otherwise contradict Costco's blanket rule. Readers comparing warehouse clubs can check Sam's Club's return policy separately; Costco's own later price reductions use the adjustment rules below.

How Costco's 30-Day Price Adjustment Works

Costco's detailed policy covers Costco.com orders: an eligible item whose Costco.com price drops within 30 days of purchase may qualify for the difference. Resale purchases are excluded, Costco may deny requests at its discretion, and future restrictions may appear at purchase.

The comparison concerns the item you bought. Costco does not publish a detailed model/SKU, size, color, stock or unopened-condition checklist for adjustments. Before requesting money back, use Costco's instructions to check whether the promotional price was already deducted.

When Does the 30-Day Clock Start?

Costco's adjustment clock starts at purchase. Costco does not specify calendar versus business days, day-zero counting, cutoff time or timezone, so request promptly rather than relying on a calculated final day. The separate 90-day return clock for listed electronics starts at receipt.

Can You Claim a Sale Price After the Sale Ends?

For dated promotions, Costco requires submission during the promotion and within 30 days of purchase; requests after the sale ends may be denied. For ordinary reductions without sale dates, Costco publishes no separate final submission cutoff that guarantees a later request qualifies. Submit as soon as you see the eligible lower price, using the route for your purchase.

How to Request a Costco Price Adjustment

Costco provides two routes: the online form for Costco.com orders and the original warehouse's Returns counter for warehouse purchases. Costco does not list a request fee.

Costco.com Orders: the Online Request Form

  1. Check eligibility and dates. Compare the item bought with the lower Costco.com price, the 30-day purchase window and any promotion dates. A live sale alone is insufficient if the purchase falls outside the window.
  2. Check the existing discount. Follow Costco's promotional-price check before assuming the order missed a promotion.
  3. Sign in and submit. Complete the Request a price match form. Follow the instructions displayed after sign-in; the public policy does not expose the current form fields.
  4. Wait for approval. Approved credits go to the original payment method; Costco's 5–10 business-day estimate starts at approval, not at submission.

Warehouse Purchases: the Original Warehouse's Returns Counter

Costco directs warehouse adjustment inquiries to the Returns counter where you bought the item, rather than any warehouse. Use the warehouse locator to find that location.

Costco publishes no separate warehouse window or payout timing, so ask soon after the drop.

What Proof Should You Have Ready?

Costco does not publish an adjustment-specific proof list. The online form requires sign-in, and public instructions do not specify receipt, screenshot or attachment requirements. Warehouse receipt, ID, payment-card and physical-item requirements are also unpublished.

As a practical precaution, keep your order number or receipt and a record of the lower Costco price and the date you saw it. These are preparation tips, not Costco requirements or a promise of receipt-free adjustments.

For help, Costco lists 1-800-955-2292 for online orders and 1-800-774-2678 for membership and warehouse inquiries; its Contact Us page lists chat hours. Costco does not promise filing by phone, chat or app.

Will Costco Match Its Own Warehouse or Online Price?

Costco.com orders cannot use a warehouse's lower price. Costco publishes no guarantee for the reverse comparison—a warehouse purchase against Costco.com—so ask the original warehouse rather than assuming eligibility.

For differences between warehouses, Costco's warehouse-pricing explanation directs shoppers to a local manager. Inventory, supplier pricing and local competition can affect prices; the referral is not a guaranteed adjustment.

Costco's online-versus-warehouse pricing guidance explains that online prices can reflect shipping and warehouse prices can reflect warehouse promotions. Separately, CostcoGrocery's FAQ rejects matching warehouse non-delivery prices. Adjustment rights for partner sellers, Instacart/Same-Day and Business Delivery are not published; check with Costco before extending the online rules to those purchases.

What Costco Won't Adjust: Exclusions and Limits

Costco excludes precious metals and resale purchases, and applies promotional quantity caps. The adjustment policy also has category-specific provisions. If Costco does not list a type of price either way, that does not mean it qualifies.

Price or purchase type Costco's rule Status What to do instead
Precious metals No adjustments or promotions Confirmed Do not count on a later credit
Resale purchase Ineligible Confirmed Buy during valid promotional dates
Units above an offer's limit Adjustment limited to promotional quantity Confirmed Check the offer's cap
Request after a dated sale ends May be denied Confirmed Submit while the offer is active
Other retailer's price No match Confirmed Compare prices before buying
Outside retailer/manufacturer coupon Not accepted, except manufacturer coupons Costco distributes; general purchase rule Confirmed Check Costco's own offer
Warehouse price for online order No match Confirmed Compare eligible Costco.com prices
Partner sellers, Same-Day or Business Delivery Adjustment rights unstated Not published Ask customer service
Clearance, open-box/refurbished, bundles, financing, gifts or doorbusters Costco does not list these either way Not published Check the specific offer

The coupon restriction comes from Costco's membership payment terms, rather than a comprehensive adjustment-stacking rule.

Tires, Wheels and Installed Home Projects

Costco says tires and wheels may qualify subject to other conditions; use the channel where you purchased. Special Order Kiosk and Home Improvement Installed Products promotions instead depend on qualifying products, signed contract date and/or pre-tax price.

The installed-project provisions include extra Costco Shop Card exceptions for 14 days before or after promotion dates, handled through the authorized dealer. These Shop Card promotions cannot be combined with another manufacturer consumer promotion or incentive. This concerns additional Shop Card value, not a universal cash price-drop refund.

Is There a Limit on How Many Adjustments You Can Get?

Costco applies each promotion's quantity cap to adjustments. Costco publishes no universal numeric cap, one-adjustment-only rule or repeat-request rule after another drop, and retains discretion to deny requests. Ask about a second reduction rather than treating the absence of a repeat limit as approval.

How Costco Refunds the Price Difference

Costco says approved Costco.com credits go to the original payment method, typically 5–10 business days after approval. That estimate measures credit issuance, not the full time from submission to money appearing at your bank.

Stage Costco.com Warehouse
Request timing 30-day purchase window; dated sales also require submission during promotion; ordinary-drop final cutoff Not published Ask at original warehouse; timing Not published
Approval turnaround Not published Not published
Credit issued Typically 5–10 business days after approval Not published
Separate bank posting Not published Not published

Costco does not publish adjustment formulas for tax, shipping or nonmember surcharges, or handling for split payments and expired cards. Ask customer service about those details for your order.

Costco's general Terms of Sale allow an alternative refund method such as a Shop Card at Costco's discretion. The adjustment-specific article names original payment, so a Shop Card payout should not be assumed.

Costco Holiday Savings 2026 and Dated Sales

As published on October 29, 2026, Costco's 2026 Holiday Savings schedule runs October 30–November 30, 2026. The event banner is a sale schedule, not an extended adjustment guarantee or a promise that every item runs for the entire event.

Published sections cover October 30–November 15; November 16–30; November 26; November 27–30; and November 30, all in 2026. Some item listings show October 23 starts. Check the item's own listing for dates and channel.

The Holiday Savings page labels its displayed prices as warehouse pricing, and Costco notes online prices may be higher, so compare a Costco.com order with the item's own Costco.com price. The November 26 offers shown are online-only, and warehouses are closed that day for Thanksgiving, so plan any Returns-counter visit for a day warehouses are open.

The holiday terms specify:

  • Active membership for warehouse purchases.
  • Stated item limits per household and availability while supplies last.
  • No combining with other savings or promotional events.
  • Online-only offers apply online.
  • Business Centers are excluded; Puerto Rico promotions differ.

Holiday price requests must meet the item's promotion dates and the 30-day purchase condition. Costco publishes neither a blanket Black Friday/doorbuster ban nor automatic eligibility for every holiday offer.

Example: Assume an eligible, non-resale Costco.com purchase costs $100 on November 5, 2026, and the purchased item's listing offers an $80 price during November 16–30, 2026. A November 20 request is within both periods, making the $20 merchandise difference a candidate adjustment. A December 1 request is after that promotion ends and may be denied even though it remains within 30 days of purchase. Tax and shipping treatment is unpublished, so $20 is not a promised final credit. Costco may deny the request.

Is There a 2026 Costco Holiday Price Guarantee?

Costco has not published a separate 2026 holiday price-match guarantee, extended eligible-purchase range or later claim deadline in the cited policy and sale notice. Use the item's own dates and the ordinary adjustment conditions rather than assuming holiday or membership benefits extend them.

Does Membership Level or a Citi Card Change the Rules?

Costco publishes no extra matching rights or longer window for Executive, Gold Star or Business members. Resale activity matters: resellers must purchase during promotional dates to receive the promotional price.

The public Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi benefits page and its consumer and business protection guides list no price-protection benefit or Costco adjustment extension. Listed shopping protection addresses damage/theft, a different benefit. A payment card does not establish an extra adjustment right in these published materials.

Price Adjustments and Costco's Return Policy

Costco price adjustments and returns are separate policies with different clocks and locations. The 30-day Costco.com adjustment clock runs from purchase, and warehouse adjustment inquiries go to the original warehouse.

Under Costco's return policy, eligible warehouse purchases can be returned to any warehouse, and Costco.com purchases can use a warehouse or the online return process. Listed electronics have 90 days from receipt for returns; that does not create 90-day price protection.

Our Costco return policy guide covers the satisfaction guarantee without a fixed deadline for most merchandise, the 90-day electronics and appliance list, returns without a receipt, exclusions and refund timing.

Can You Return and Rebuy at the Lower Price?

Costco does not publish return-and-rebuy as a guaranteed route to a lower price. Its no-match answer points dissatisfied shoppers toward returns, subject to exclusions; that creates no matching entitlement.

Costco also does not publish how a later return is refunded after an adjustment, whether earlier credits are deducted or whether a return clock resets. Use the adjustment route promptly when eligible, and ask Costco before assuming a combined refund or fresh deadline.

Costco Price Match Policy Mistakes to Avoid

Most mistakes come from confusing the seller, the channel or the deadline:

  • Asking Costco to match another retailer.
  • Requesting a holiday price after the item's promotion ends.
  • Treating the online 30-day rule as a warehouse guarantee.
  • Asking Costco.com to honor a warehouse price.
  • Using the electronics 90-day return period as an adjustment window.
  • Expecting every unit adjusted despite an offer's quantity cap.

Costco decides each request, may deny it and may show future restrictions at purchase. See how StoreReturners checks policies for the source-based approach behind this guide; more US store guides cover other retailers' rules.

Questions shoppers ask

Does Costco charge a fee to request a price adjustment?

Costco does not list a separate request fee in its adjustment instructions. That omission does not establish that every request is free. Use the online form for Costco.com purchases or the original warehouse's Returns counter for warehouse purchases, and ask Costco if your order raises a charge question.

Can nonmembers get a Costco.com price adjustment?

Costco's membership terms allow certain online merchandise purchases at 5% above member prices. The adjustment policy does not explain nonmember eligibility or recalculation of that surcharge. Contact Costco.com customer service for your order's treatment before assuming that access to a nonmember purchase includes the same adjustment rights.

Does a price adjustment affect my Executive 2% Reward?

Costco's Executive Reward terms calculate the reward on qualifying pre-tax purchases less refunds. Those terms do not separately explain how adjustment credits are reconciled. Ask Costco about your reward calculation rather than assuming that a price adjustment leaves the reward unchanged or reduces it by a particular amount.

Can Costco deny a price adjustment request?

Yes. Costco reserves discretion to deny a request, and requests submitted after a dated promotion ends may be denied. An eligible price drop is therefore a reason to apply, rather than a guarantee of payment. Submit promptly and check the item's promotion dates, quantity limits and any purchase restrictions.

Is Costco required by law to match prices?

The FTC guidance cited here treats matching and later-sale refunds as seller-policy questions; it does not establish a legal right to a Costco match. This guide does not survey every state's pricing laws. For the Costco price match policy, rely on Costco's published adjustment conditions rather than assuming a matching mandate.
