Home Depot Price Match Policy: Competitors, 30 Days and Exclusions

The Home Depot price match policy in the US matches a lower price on an identical, in-stock item sold and fulfilled by a qualifying competitor like Lowe's, Amazon or Walmart, not a marketplace seller. Within 30 days of purchase, it can refund the difference if its own or a matched competitor's price drops. Clearance and Black Friday deals are excluded.

Key facts

  • Home Depot names Lowe's, Menards, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target as online examples; eBay, Wayfair, Costco and Sam's Club are excluded.
  • Brand, model, size, color, finish and specifications must match, with stock available at both retailers.
  • Price drops after you buy: ask within 30 days of purchase, not delivery; clearance, special orders and promotional-event purchases are excluded.
  • Ask before paying in store, or through Live Chat or 1-800-430-3376 before ordering online; later adjustments use phone, chat or a store.
  • Competitor delivery and service fees, contractor prices and Home Depot coupons on top of a match aren't covered.

Home Depot's Price Match Guarantee & Price Inquiries page sets these rules; compare retailer policies through our US store policy guides.

Does Home Depot Match Competitors' Prices?

Yes. Home Depot matches eligible competitors' lower product prices in stores and on homedepot.com. The offer must meet four conditions:

  • The product is identical.
  • Both retailers have it in stock.
  • An online offer is purchasable now and deliverable to you.
  • The seller and offer qualify under Home Depot's rules.

Home Depot's current US policy states no extra percentage off. Older guides mention a 10% beat, but the current guarantee makes no such promise. If Lowe's is cheaper and you'd rather buy there, check Lowe's return rules first.

Which competitors does Home Depot price match?

Home Depot accepts nearby physical retailers selling the same item under similar terms, plus online retailers including Lowe's, Menards, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target. The six names are examples, not an exhaustive list.

The competitor must operate in, sell to or ship to your area. Home Depot publishes no mileage radius, so bring proof that the retailer serves your location.

Amazon, Walmart and Other Sites: Sold and Fulfilled by the Retailer

Home Depot requires two checks for Lowe's, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target: the retailer must both sell and fulfill the item. An outside merchant's Amazon listing fails even if Amazon ships it. On Amazon, check that both the Sold by and Ships from lines on the offer you picked say Amazon. Competitor marketplace and third-party offers don't qualify.

Menards has no matching footnote, but the general direct-retailer rule still applies. Home Depot's Amazon instructions allow screenshot proof. If you choose Amazon instead, review Amazon's return rules for direct and third-party purchases.

Why eBay, Wayfair, Costco and Sam's Club Don't Count

Home Depot excludes auction, marketplace and membership-based sites, naming eBay, Wayfair, Costco and Sam's Club. Home Depot doesn't publish separate price-match rights for third-party sellers on homedepot.com itself; ask Customer Solutions before ordering such an item.

Does a different finish or model number qualify?

No. Home Depot requires the exact brand, model number, size, color, finish and specifications. Similar appearance doesn't establish an identical product.

Home Depot publishes no separate new-condition rule or express treatment of open-box, used and refurbished listings. Compare new, identical items and ask first; for an item already purchased, the adjustment rules below apply.

Home Depot Price Adjustments Within 30 Days of Purchase

Home Depot can refund an eligible difference if homedepot.com or a matched competitor's website lowers its price within 30 days of purchase. The adjustment section covers store and online purchases, subject to exclusions and the channel conflict below.

The clock starts at purchase, not delivery. Home Depot doesn't specify calendar versus business days, whether purchase day counts, cutoff time, time zone or weekend extensions. Request the adjustment promptly, well inside 30 days.

Example: Assume an eligible homedepot.com purchase cost $300 on October 5, 2026, outside a promotional event, and its ordinary website price falls to $260 on October 12, 2026. Seven days is well inside the window: ask for the $40 difference with your order number and proof of $260. Approval and payment treatment still require verification.

Does a store purchase get the lower homedepot.com price?

Home Depot's pages word this differently, so don't count on it. The price-match page offers eligible later website reductions on store or online purchases but rejects deliberately different store and website prices; About Shopping Online says Home Depot doesn't match between those channels.

Before paying, compare channels and buy where the price is lower. After purchase, ask Customer Service whether the drop qualifies as an adjustment; its decision on your order is the binding answer. Local prices can vary, and Home Depot publishes no store-to-store matching guarantee.

Which purchases can't get an adjustment?

Home Depot excludes clearance items, special orders and products purchased during promotional events. The promotional exclusion concerns the original purchase: a later ordinary price doesn't remove it.

How to Ask Home Depot for a Price Match

Home Depot has three routes: in store before payment, online before ordering, and after purchase. Start with an identical, currently available offer you can prove. Review the price-match instructions, use the Customer Service Center for Live Chat, or find a location through the Store Locator, entering a US ZIP code.

In a Home Depot Store, Before You Pay

  1. Before completing checkout, ask the cashier or Customer Service desk to verify and apply the match.
  2. Show the competitor's ad, printout or website link identifying the lower offer.
  3. Confirm the verified price before paying. A different model or a local competitor that doesn't serve your area can prevent approval.

On homedepot.com, Before You Order

  1. Before ordering, contact Customer Solutions through Live Chat or 1-800-430-3376. The Customer Service Center lists phone availability seven days a week, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. ET.
  2. Have Home Depot's SKU or Internet number, the competitor's name and its SKU, item, model or part number; share the listing link or, for Lowe's, a screenshot.
  3. Get the agent's decision before checkout. Home Depot publishes no self-service checkout, app or dedicated text claim workflow; use the listed routes.

After You've Bought: Asking for an Adjustment

  1. Within 30 days of purchase, call, use Live Chat or visit a Home Depot store.
  2. Provide your order number, receipt or other purchase proof, plus a screenshot or link showing the reduction.
  3. Have Customer Service verify eligibility and retain the decision. Promotional-event purchases, clearance and special orders can fail even within the window.

Home Depot lists no charge for a price-match request; a fee rule is unpublished.

What proof should you bring?

Home Depot requires evidence of the lower offer and, for an adjustment, evidence of your purchase. The channel determines the supporting details:

Proof When used Note
Ad, printout, website link, or screenshot for Amazon Before buying in store Identify the current offer
Home Depot SKU/Internet number and competitor identifier/link, or screenshot for Lowe's Before ordering online Let the agent compare exact products
Order number/receipt and screenshot/link After purchase Show purchase and price reduction

Once you've submitted a request, Home Depot honors the offer as it stood then, even if the price later changes. An older screenshot doesn't lock a price before you ask. Receipt lookup may help recover proof, but isn't promised for adjustments and doesn't extend eligibility.

What Home Depot Won't Price Match

Home Depot's general policy distinguishes exclusions from offer types it doesn't address:

Offer or item Home Depot's rule Source status
eBay, Wayfair, Costco, Sam's Club; auction, marketplace and membership sites Excluded Confirmed
Competitor third-party sellers; named retailers not both selling and fulfilling Excluded Confirmed
Special/custom orders or items outside regular stock Excluded; kitchen caveat below Confirmed
Clearance, closeout, deeply discounted or discontinued goods Excluded Confirmed
Black Friday, flash sales, special limited-time/holiday promotions Excluded Confirmed
Bulk/volume or contractor/professional prices Excluded Confirmed
Home Depot coupon or promo code plus match Choose one Confirmed
Competitor shipping, delivery, installation or service fees Not matched; product price only Confirmed
Deliberately different store/website prices Not matched; adjustment conflict above Confirmed
Adjustments on clearance, special orders, promotional-event purchases Excluded Confirmed
Open-box, used or refurbished goods Not published Not specified
Bundles, gifts with purchase, competitor gift-card incentives Not published Not specified
Competitor rebates, coupon-dependent or loyalty/member-only prices at eligible retailers Not published Not specified
Financing/credit terms or stand-alone limited-quantity offers Not published Not specified

For unpublished cases, ask before buying and bring the full offer terms. Don't assume either approval or exclusion.

Are Black Friday deals and doorbusters excluded?

Home Depot excludes Black Friday pricing, flash sales and other special limited-time or holiday promotions, covering doorbuster-style Black Friday deals. Home Depot doesn't separately define doorbusters or publish blackout dates; ask about the particular offer rather than guessing a calendar.

An ordinary competitor sale outside excluded events can qualify. Home Depot publishes no test distinguishing every ordinary sale from a special limited-time promotion.

Does Home Depot have a 2026 holiday price guarantee?

Not as of October 29, 2026: Home Depot hadn't published a 2026 holiday price guarantee. Home Depot's 2026 holiday announcement starts gift savings October 29, 2026, without extending price protection or publishing protection dates.

The ordinary 30-day purchase-based rule applies. This guide will be updated if Home Depot publishes one.

Coupons, Card Offers, Pro Xtra and Military Discounts

Home Depot coupons and promo codes can't combine with a match under the price-match policy. Choose whichever gives the lower price.

Home Depot's new-account card coupon can't combine with other discounts or apply to past purchases. Home Depot publishes no extended adjustment window for cardholders; eligible 365-day card returns are a separate rule.

Home Depot's Pro Xtra terms prohibit combining program offers with another offer. Preferred Pricing can't combine with another promotion or coupon or apply to past purchases. Home Depot publishes no wider competitor list or extended adjustment window for Pro Xtra members. Adjustment credit for Pro Xtra Dollars is unpublished; ask how it would be issued.

Home Depot's military terms exclude combining the discount with other promotions and manager-discretion price adjustments. That wording doesn't make every policy match discretionary.

HVAC and Kitchen Projects Follow Separate Terms

Home Depot's general guarantee covers merchandise prices, excluding competitor installation and service fees. HVAC has a separate pre-installation quote match.

Submit a licensed and insured competitor's written or emailed quote to the authorized service provider before installation. Home Depot requires a like-for-like job, a quote dated within 30 days of its original quote, and the same customer, address and application. Like-for-like means the quote covers the same permits and code updates, equivalent capacity, efficiency and tier, accessories and installation components, and comparable product and labor warranties and service terms. The provider decides; no stacking, one adjustment per order and possible market restrictions apply.

HVAC excludes late, verbal or ad-only quotes, unlicensed contractors, post-installation requests, noncomparable products and financing/credit terms unavailable through Home Depot. These are HVAC limits, not universal merchandise limits.

Home Depot's general policy excludes special/custom orders and shipping/service matching. A separate, undated Kitchen Remodel Guarantee document words it differently, covering identical special-order cabinets, custom countertops and shipping; Home Depot doesn't show whether it remains current. Ask the kitchen designer for current written terms before signing; those project terms establish the applicable answer. The undated document is listed under Official sources.

How Does Home Depot Refund the Price Difference?

Home Depot generally refunds approved differences to the original payment method, with exceptions. Its refund policy sends card payments back to the card, cash purchases typically to cash and online payments usually to the original tender.

Stage What happens Published rule
Request window Submit eligible adjustment 30 days from purchase
Approval and issuance Home Depot verifies and issues credit Not published
Card posting Approved adjustment reaches card A few business days
Other payment posting Credit reaches other tender Not published

Home Depot's price-match payment answer says gift-card purchases receive Store Credit, and its refund policy agrees. Another paragraph on the price-match page refers to the original gift card. Ask which form the credit will take before leaving the counter or chat, and retain the approval or transcript confirming that answer.

Return-processing tables aren't adjustment deadlines.

What if an approved refund doesn't arrive?

Home Depot advises retaining the approval record or chat transcript, checking which payment method was credited and allowing the stated few business days for card adjustments. Then contact Customer Service with approval details rather than filing a new price claim. Keep those records if you later return the item.

Price Matching and Your Home Depot Return Window

Home Depot handles returns and adjustments separately; its pages publish no rule extending either clock because of the other. Eligible card purchases' 365-day return period doesn't extend the 30-day adjustment window.

Home Depot doesn't say whether an adjustment changes later return eligibility, resets the deadline or changes the refund amount. Keep the receipt and adjustment together; don't expect the original, unadjusted price back. The published lower-price route is an adjustment, with no return-and-rebuy procedure described.

The refund policy permits attempted receipt lookup within 90 days for credit/debit/check purchases or 365 days for specified Home Depot credit accounts, but that's a return-proof rule. Pro Xtra Dollars returns receive Store Credit; adjustment treatment remains unpublished.

Our Home Depot return guide covers standard and shorter category windows, eligible card returns, missing receipts, return fees and refund timing.

Mistakes to Avoid With the Price Match Policy Home Depot Publishes

  • Using a third-party Amazon or Walmart listing because the retailer ships it.
  • Expecting free shipping or a lower delivered total to be matched.
  • Counting 30 days from delivery instead of purchase.
  • Seeking adjustments on clearance, special orders or promotional-event purchases.
  • Adding a Home Depot coupon to a match.
  • Assuming a store purchase qualifies for a lower homedepot.com price.

The Home Depot price match policy requires identical items from qualifying direct sellers that sell and fulfill them. Ask within 30 days of purchase for eligible later reductions. Choose the request route by channel and purchase timing. Home Depot had published no 2026 holiday guarantee as of October 29, 2026.

Home Depot verifies requests, its pages word gift-card and store/website adjustments differently, and several offer types remain unaddressed. Read how we check retailer policies for the source-based approach behind this guide.

Questions shoppers ask

Does Home Depot beat a competitor's price by 10%?

Home Depot's current US policy publishes no extra percentage: expect a match to an eligible lower product price. Older guides' 10% claims and supposed removal dates aren't supported by the current policy page. Home Depot also publishes no general effective date establishing when such a change occurred.

Will one Home Depot store match another store's lower price?

Home Depot says local store prices can vary but publishes no guarantee requiring one location to honor another's lower price. Ask the store before paying and show the exact offer. Don't treat a price displayed at another Home Depot location as automatic approval at yours.

Does a Home Depot credit card or Pro Xtra give longer price protection?

Home Depot publishes no longer adjustment window or expanded competitor list for cardholders or Pro Xtra members in the reviewed material. Eligible card purchases' 365-day period concerns returns. Use the 30-day adjustment window from purchase and ask about any account-specific terms before relying on extra protection.

Is there a limit on how many items Home Depot will price match?

Home Depot publishes no numeric merchandise claim cap or repeat-adjustment limit. Its general terms reserve order-quantity limits, while bulk and contractor pricing are excluded from matching. Ask about your quantity before purchasing; the HVAC guarantee's one-adjustment limit belongs to that service alone.

What happens if the competitor's price changes after I ask?

Home Depot says the offer at the time of a submitted request is honored if the price changes afterward. Keep evidence of submission and the qualifying offer. A screenshot taken earlier, without submitting a request, doesn't preserve that earlier price under the published rule.
