Walmart Price Match Policy: What Walmart Matches and What It Won't

The Walmart price match policy excludes competitors such as Amazon or Target. Walmart U.S. stores outside Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico match an identical, in-stock item sold by Walmart on Walmart.com when you ask at checkout, excluding Marketplace sellers, Rollback, clearance and event prices. Walmart.com orders get no price matching, even if the price drops later.

Key facts

  • Walmart does not match any competitor's online or in-store price.
  • Walmart's only published match is at a U.S. store checkout against an identical, currently in-stock item sold by Walmart on Walmart.com.
  • Walmart.com purchases receive no matching, including later Walmart.com price drops.
  • Walmart.com Rollback, clearance, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and other limited-time prices are excluded.
  • Walmart reserves the right to limit matches to one per customer, per item, per day; in New Mexico, that limit applies only to resale purchases. Store matching is unavailable in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The detailed Walmart price-match policy sets these conditions.

Does Walmart Price Match Competitors Like Amazon or Target?

Walmart does not match Amazon, Target, Best Buy or other competitors, online or in stores. Walmart's corporate policy excludes “Competitor's online or in-store prices.”

There is no qualifying competitor list or local-radius test. Older guides still list competitors, but those lists do not establish eligibility under Walmart's published policy.

The FTC's comparison-shopping guidance recommends checking a seller's matching promises, later sale-price credits and required records. That guidance does not itself create a Walmart price-match right. If later price drops are your main worry, check whether the store you buy from publishes its own price-adjustment policy. If the item is cheaper on Amazon and you buy it there instead, our Amazon return policy guide explains what happens if you need to send it back.

What Walmart does match is its own website.

How Walmart's Store-to-Walmart.com Price Match Works

Walmart's published match runs in one direction: a purchase at a Walmart U.S. store checkout can match an eligible Walmart.com offer.

Walmart's store-versus-online explanation confirms the store benefit and the absence of matching for website orders. The help summary's store-price exclusion concerns the comparison source: Walmart won't match another store's price, but an eligible store purchase can match Walmart.com.

Walmart's online terms, Section 8, allow website, store and app prices to differ. A difference alone does not qualify; seller and offer restrictions still apply. Walmart publishes no list of eligible product categories, and the return policy's category exceptions don't carry over to matching; ask about your item.

Identical item, in stock, sold by Walmart

Walmart requires the same size, model, quantity, brand and color, with the Walmart.com item currently in stock and available to purchase. A similar model or different pack size fails the identity test.

The seller must be Walmart. Marketplace prices fail even on Walmart.com. Walmart publishes no rain checks, so the offer must be buyable when you ask, and it doesn't address open-box or refurbished condition (see the FAQ).

Raise the request during checkout.

How to Ask for a Price Match at Walmart Checkout

Ask the associate about the Walmart.com price at checkout, before paying. Walmart's checkout conditions allow validation and possible supervisor approval; the store manager on duty makes the final decision.

  1. Check the location. Confirm the store is outside Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Stores there don't match, however good the online offer.
  2. Check the offer. Find the identical item, sold by Walmart, currently purchasable and outside excluded promotions. Compare model, size, quantity, brand and color; matching only the product name misses differences.
  3. Tell the associate before paying. Identify the Walmart.com price during checkout. Have the request considered before completing the purchase; don't assume a later refund process exists.
  4. Show the live listing (our suggestion). Open the Walmart.com offer so the associate can check seller, stock and price; Walmart sets no proof format (see below).
  5. Allow validation. Wait for the associate's decision and any supervisor review. Confirm the approved price before paying; don't treat an apparent match as approved before the store completes its checks.

Example: Assume a store outside Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico charges $80, the identical item is sold by Walmart on Walmart.com for $70, is in stock, has no excluded offer, and the manager approves a checkout request. The potential saving is $10 before tax. Walmart does not publish the shipping or tax comparison method. If $70 is a Rollback or Marketplace price, the match fails.

What proof should you bring?

Walmart does not publish an accepted proof format or say whether screenshots, printouts, receipts or app listings are sufficient or required. Our preparation tip is to have the live Walmart.com listing open, showing seller, price and stock, because Walmart may validate the offer and requires current availability.

Price matching in the app, by chat or by phone

Walmart publishes no standalone app submission, automatic Scan & Go match, or chat/phone price-match or difference-refund process. The app can help you examine the Walmart.com offer; the published request remains at checkout.

For policy questions, use Walmart Help Center chat or the general customer-service number, 1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART), on Walmart's contact page. These are help routes, not published matching channels. Wherever you find a listing, check its seller next.

Do Walmart.com Marketplace Seller Prices Qualify?

Walmart excludes Marketplace and third-party seller prices even when the listing appears on Walmart.com. Who sells the item matters more than the website address.

Walmart.com orders themselves receive no matching against stores, Neighborhood Markets, competitors or Marketplace prices. Neither a Walmart-hosted listing nor purchasing online creates the store-checkout benefit.

Walmart's pricing and availability terms also reserve cancellation for online pricing or availability errors. Our advice is not to rely on an obviously mistaken price as a match basis. Even a correctly priced, direct Walmart offer must clear the exclusions below.

What Walmart Won't Price Match

Walmart expressly excludes several prices and offer structures. Other details are not published, which means Walmart hasn't said, not that the request is allowed.

Offer or item Walmart's rule Status
Rollback; clearance Neither price qualifies. Excluded in policy
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, other limited-time prices Event prices cannot supply the match. Excluded in policy
Bundles; instant rebates; mail-in offers These offer structures do not qualify. Excluded in policy
Financing; purchase-conditioned gift-card ads These offers do not qualify. Excluded in policy
Percentage-off offers; buy-one-get-one-free ads without a specified price These advertising formats do not qualify. Excluded in policy
Other Walmart stores; Neighborhood Markets Physical-store prices cannot supply the match. Excluded in policy
Marketplace sellers; competitors These sellers' prices do not qualify. Excluded in policy
Open-box, used, refurbished or damaged items No separate condition rule; ask about the exact comparison. Not published
Doorbusters; limited-quantity labels No standalone rule; event exclusions still apply. Ask before paying. Not published
Walmart+ or other member-only prices No distinct category rule; ask before relying on the offer. Not published
Coupon stacking; coupon-reduced comparison prices No matching procedure; confirm before checkout. Not published
Shipping, handling, delivery fees, tax No comparison calculation; confirm the total before paying. Not published
Non-gift-card free gifts No separate rule; ask rather than extending the gift-card exclusion. Not published
Rain checks No entitlement stated; current availability is required. Not published

A refused match doesn't stop you buying the Walmart.com offer itself. Our suggestion: if an excluded Rollback, clearance or event price is lower, order it on Walmart.com while it's in stock, after checking the final total and how you'll receive it; that order then gets no later price matching.

Quantity limits, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico

Walmart reserves the right to limit matches to one per customer, per item, per day. In New Mexico, that quantity limitation applies only to purchases for resale. Store matching is unavailable in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

Example: Assume you buy three units of one item, each $5 cheaper on Walmart.com, at an otherwise eligible store outside New Mexico that applies its limit. The match may cover one unit, saving $5 rather than $15. This is a per-item limit, not one product total per day. Timing creates a separate restriction once you've paid.

Does Walmart Adjust the Price If It Drops After You Buy?

Walmart.com orders: no. Walmart expressly refuses matching to a lower Walmart.com price appearing after purchase, so there is no online adjustment window to count. Store purchases: Walmart publishes matching at checkout, with no later adjustment entitlement, window, payout method or posting time.

The store benefit changes the checkout price; it is not a later refund of the difference. Check Walmart.com before paying rather than assuming a return window gives you time to request an adjustment.

Example: Assume you order an item on Walmart.com for $120 on November 2, 2026, and the same listing falls to $100 on November 3, 2026. Walmart won't refund the $20 under its price-match policy. Returning is a separate decision, and repurchasing at the lower price isn't guaranteed. No holiday exception appears in the Walmart pages reviewed.

Is there a 2026 holiday price guarantee at Walmart?

As of October 29, 2026, no 2026 holiday price-match guarantee appeared in Walmart's price-match policy, help article, terms or October 26, 2026 holiday announcement. Walmart.com Black Friday, Cyber Monday and other limited-time prices remain excluded from store matching.

Walmart's 2026 holiday announcement lists sale dates:

  • Early Black Friday Deals: November 12–15, 2026.
  • Black Friday Deals: November 23–29, 2026.
  • Cyber Monday: November 30–December 2, 2026.

Online events start at 12:01 a.m. ET. Stores start the early event November 12 and the main Black Friday event November 27, both at 6 a.m. local time.

Walmart+ offers 24-hour early access to select online deal drops on November 12 and November 23, with general access to remaining drops November 13 and November 24, while supplies last. Early access is not price protection. We'll update this guide if Walmart publishes one.

Do Walmart+ or OnePay Cards Add Price Protection?

The reviewed Walmart+ terms and OnePay materials publish no additional price-match or price-protection right. Walmart's general matching policy states no membership prerequisite; reviewed membership terms provide no matching exception for paid, trial or bundled members.

The Walmart+ terms describe limited-time offers and return-pickup benefits, but member-only prices have no separate published matching rule. For shoppers with Walmart+ bundled with Sam's Club Plus, our Sam's Club return policy guide covers the other store's return rules.

Under the OnePay Rewards Terms, purchases made with the OnePay CashRewards Card earn OnePay Points net of returns, refunds and adjustments, so returned spending reduces rewards. Those rewards terms do not establish price protection. Check your cardholder agreement for benefits; the reviewed materials do not rule out every possible issuer benefit.

Price Matching and Walmart's Return Window

A price match changes what you pay at checkout; Walmart publishes no match-specific new return window, clock reset or refund formula. Walmart does not say whether a returned matched item refunds at the matched or shelf price, so ask about that amount before proceeding.

Under Walmart's return policy, the normal window is 90 days after purchase or receipt, with exceptions including consumer electronics at 30 days, most wireless phones at 14 days and major appliances, with returns normally initiated within two days of accepted delivery (up to 30 days after delivery if unopened, uninstalled, undamaged and in original factory-sealed packaging). Marketplace sellers' policies may differ. These are return windows, never adjustment windows.

Walmart describes extended holiday returns for most purchases made October 1–December 31 until January 31, with exceptions including wireless phones, protection plans, major appliances, Dyson products and select seasonal/luxury goods. That paragraph does not state the year. The extension concerns returns, not prices.

Our Walmart return policy guide covers category windows, receipt and no-receipt returns, refunds and holiday returns. Use Walmart's returns landing page to check your return options.

Can you return an item and buy it back at the lower price?

Walmart does not guarantee return-and-rebuy approval, immediate resale of the returned unit or a replacement at a lower price. A return must independently meet current rules, and stock and prices can change.

Walmart may limit or refuse returns for suspected excessive, repetitive or abusive patterns; a single eligible return is not automatically abuse. Online pricing errors may also lead to cancellation. Returning and purchasing again is your decision, not a published Walmart savings program.

Walmart Price Match Policy Mistakes to Avoid

Walmart price match policy requests can fail because the seller, offer or timing falls outside the published rules. Avoid these assumptions:

  • Amazon or Target prices qualify: competitor matching is excluded.
  • Every Walmart.com listing qualifies: Marketplace sellers are excluded.
  • Rollback or Black Friday prices qualify: these offers are excluded even when Walmart sells the item.
  • Paying first preserves the match: store matching is published at checkout only.
  • Walmart.com refunds later drops: the online refusal is explicit.
  • Holiday sales or multiple units expand eligibility: no 2026 guarantee was located, and Walmart reserves its per-customer, per-item, per-day limit, qualified in New Mexico.

Our analysis uses Walmart's public pages; store decisions rest with the manager on duty, and Walmart may change the policy. Read how we check retailer policies or browse more US store guides when comparing another retailer.

Questions shoppers ask

Does Walmart match a lower price at another Walmart store?

No. Walmart excludes prices from other Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets. The eligible comparison runs from an identical, in-stock item sold by Walmart on Walmart.com to a participating store checkout. A shelf label from another branch does not replace that website offer, even for the same product.

Does a Walmart price match include shipping or sales tax?

Walmart does not publish whether shipping, handling, delivery fees or sales tax enter the comparison. Compare the identical item's price and ask the associate how the final total will be calculated before paying. Do not assume Walmart will match a delivered total or waive any charge.

Can you use a manufacturer coupon on a price-matched item?

Walmart's price-match provisions do not specify whether manufacturer coupons can be combined with an approved match or whether a coupon-reduced price can supply the comparison. Ask before paying, identifying both the coupon and the Walmart.com offer. Separate coupon acceptance does not establish permission to combine the two benefits.

Will Walmart match an open-box or refurbished price?

Walmart does not separately address open-box, used, refurbished or damaged goods in the reviewed matching rules. The product must still be identical in size, model, quantity, brand and color. Our analysis is that condition differences could undermine the comparison; ask about the specific listing before relying on it.

Who decides a match, and can customer service overrule it?

The store manager on duty makes the final decision, and some transactions require supervisor approval. Walmart provides chat and phone help for questions, but publishes no remote matching process or customer-service override. The Walmart price match policy therefore gives you a checkout request, not a promised escalation outcome.
