How Long Do You Have to Return to ASOS?

ASOS gives 28 days from delivery or availability for collection for eligible unwanted items. Both creating the return and sending it back must happen within that period, according to the US return instructions.

ASOS doesn't publish whether these are calendar days, which day counts as day one, the cutoff time or time zone. A carrier-scan/postmark test and warehouse-arrival cutoff are also unpublished. Create and drop off a few days early; keep the receipt.

Late unwanted returns aren't accepted and may be sent back at your cost. If a valid reason prevents an on-time return, contact ASOS Customer Care; any exception is discretionary.

When Does the 28-Day Clock Start on a Split Shipment?

The final package starts the 28-day period for split ASOS shipments. Partner-shipped parcels follow the brand's own policy.

Example: Assume one ASOS-shipped order arrives in two packages on different dates. The window runs from the second package's delivery or collection availability; registering a return still doesn't replace sending it.

Is There a 2026 Holiday Return Extension at ASOS US?

ASOS had published no 2026 US holiday extension, purchase-date range or extended deadline on its US policy and help pages as of October 29, 2026. A later announcement remains possible. Assume the standard 28 days for gifts and recheck the US policy before relying on extra time.

Which ASOS Return Route Applies to Your Order?

Your checkout type and the “Shipped by” line in the confirmation email determine the route. A Brand Partner can sell an item that ASOS ships, so the seller's name alone isn't enough.

Route How to identify it Where it goes Cost Combine orders?
Account Purchase in My Orders ASOS Free if qualifying; Fair Use applies Yes, subject to combining-screen limits
Guest Order number + purchase email ASOS $4.95 deducted No
Partner-sold, ASOS-shipped Email says ASOS shipped it ASOS Partner items stated free; guest overlap unresolved Eligible ASOS items can share a parcel
Partner-shipped Email names brand as shipper Brand Stated free; guest overlap unresolved Follow brand instructions
Deactivated account Closure email Follow email instructions Shopper pays return costs Follow email instructions

The US terms provide the closure-email route for valid returns after account deactivation. For another online fashion return process, see the Princess Polly US return guide.

How to Return an ASOS Order in the US

ASOS separates account and guest returns in its US instructions. Check the shipping party before registering a parcel.

Returning With an ASOS Account

Account holders start from My Orders:

  1. Open My Account → My Orders and select Create Return on the order.
  2. Choose the items and reasons, then an available drop-off point.
  3. Retrieve the emailed QR code or printable label; account holders can also find it in My Returns.
  4. Remove or cover the old delivery label, then pack and drop off the registered parcel, keeping proof of postage.

Register each parcel separately. Eligible orders can share one registered parcel, but the combining screen lists prior orders delivered within the last 14 days. Eligible orders delivered 14–28 days ago need their own order return entry; the screen doesn't shorten the return window.

Example: Assume otherwise eligible goods arrived 20 days ago and aren't on the combining screen. Start from that order instead of treating the missing entry as a refusal.

Returning a Guest Order

Guest shoppers use the guest return portal:

  1. Enter the order number/ID and matching purchase email in the order lookup.
  2. Register that order's items and follow the available return instructions.
  3. Send each guest order separately and keep proof of postage; expect the $4.95 refund deduction.

Don't combine different guest order numbers. The portal's generic help mentions exchanges, pickup and combined orders, but ASOS doesn't publish these as US guest options.

Packing, Drop-Off and Proof of Postage

Carrier and drop-off choices depend on location and appear in the return flow. ASOS's US return instructions name UPS for QR returns, but some methods require printing. Home pickup, pickup charges and a full carrier list aren't published. If your chosen drop-off point is inconvenient, ASOS says you can use another drop-off for the same carrier.

Pack securely: you remain responsible until ASOS receives the parcel. Shipping outside ASOS's process is at your expense; retain proof of postage. If you change your mind before sending, ASOS says you can simply keep the items.

Does ASOS Charge for Returns?

ASOS offers free returns for account holders on qualifying orders, subject to Fair Use; guests pay $4.95 through a refund deduction. Its US pages don't list a separate restocking fee or an exhaustive charge list. Original delivery and handling aren't refunded on ordinary unwanted returns under the main policy.

To compare return costs elsewhere, consult the Zara US return policy guide.

The $4.95 Guest Return Fee

ASOS automatically deducts $4.95 from guest refunds; guest purchases sit outside return-rate tracking. The fee basis for multiple parcels or partial returns from one order isn't published, so don't assume one deduction covers every shipment.

The US terms charge all guest returns, while Fair Use says faulty/wrong-item returns remain free and Brand Partner help says partner-item returns are free. Neither resolves the guest overlap. Prepare for a deduction, check the refund email and query a disputed fee with Customer Care; no waiver is guaranteed.

Example: Assume one ordinary ASOS-sold guest return has $40 of refundable goods and no other adjustments. The refund is $40 − $4.95 = $35.05.

How the ASOS Fair Use Policy Works

The Fair Use Policy assesses return value, not the number of items returned.

Non-Premier group Trigger over 12 months Charge Keep-value exemption
Higher return rate 70% or more; 3+ orders Possible $4.95 per returned parcel Keep more than $50 of that order
Highest return rate 80% or more; 5+ orders Same parcel deduction plus $4.95 handling on orders, separate from delivery More than $50 exempts the parcel deduction, not handling

Return rate is value returned ÷ value ordered over 12 months. ASOS updates it with new orders, with a 30-day delay before status changes. Affected accounts receive notices and checkout/return-flow reminders; a lower rate can restore free returns and remove handling charges. State sales tax may be added to deductions; rates aren't published.

Example: Assume an assessed non-Premier account returns one ordinary parcel. Keeping exactly $50 leaves the deduction possible; keeping $50.01 meets the parcel exemption. This isn't a reason to buy extra items.

Example: Assume two assessed account parcels, no qualifying kept value, and no tax or other adjustment. Parcel deductions total 2 × $4.95 = $9.90, excluding any handling fee. This calculation doesn't apply to guests.

Does ASOS Premier Stop Fair Use Deductions?

No. Premier members with a return rate above 70% over 3+ orders cannot purchase or renew Premier. Existing benefits continue until expiry, but parcel deductions may apply unless more than $50 is kept.

Premier's wording is “above 70%”; the non-Premier trigger is “70% or more.” ASOS publishes no longer return window for Premier members.

What Condition Must ASOS Returns Be In?

ASOS requires unwanted items to be unworn and unused, in original packaging, with tags and labels attached; trying on is allowed. The US terms also require attached security devices, original footwear boxes and supplied shoe/dust bags. ASOS asks shoppers to try shoes on carpet.

Returns are inspected. ASOS may discretionarily reduce a refund for unsuitable condition or send rejected goods back at your expense; a reduced refund isn't an entitlement.

Items ASOS Won't Take Back

ASOS's exclusions cover:

  • Opened, used or unsealed Face + Body products.
  • Underwear/swimwear with broken hygiene seals or labels.
  • Pierced jewelry and face coverings with broken or tampered seals.
  • Opened, used or unsealed Sexual Wellness products, specified in the US terms.
  • Final Sale items, marked at checkout, except exceptional circumstances; statutory rights remain unaffected.

ASOS's cancellation help offers a 30-minute route to cancel a purchased E-Gift Card. After that, Customer Care may help only if the card hasn't been used or locked to an account. The US terms say guest orders, including gift vouchers, can't be canceled once placed. A custom/personalized-goods rule isn't published: ask before assuming eligibility, and check the partner route for partner shipments.

ASOS Brand Partner Returns

ASOS's Brand Partner instructions distinguish the seller from the shipper. The partner, rather than ASOS US Sales LLC, is the seller for partner goods; check “Shipped by” in your confirmation email.

Partner-shipped: Return directly to the brand using its instructions or label. ASOS's help page gives Dippin Daisys as an example; Customer Care can supply replacement labels. The brand's physical store can't accept these returns, and sending them to ASOS delays refunds. Each brand sets its window; no universal partner deadline is published. Partner returns can't be tracked through ASOS; contact the brand to confirm receipt, while ASOS says it will notify you once processing is complete. ASOS's US return options give a target of processing by the brand within 14 calendar days, without a stated start event. Bank posting is separate, as explained below.

ASOS-shipped: ASOS policy and return options apply; eligible partner items can share a parcel with other ASOS items. Partner returns are stated free, but other items can still attract fees. For guests, that free wording conflicts with the all-guest $4.95 rule: budget for the deduction and check the refund email, then query discrepancies.

When Will You Get Your ASOS Refund?

ASOS's main policy aims to refund within 14 days after warehouse receipt. ASOS's refund help page words it differently: up to 14 calendar days starting the day after drop-off, including transit and processing. These aren't one guaranteed total.

Bank/provider posting Card: up to 10 business days after processing. E-Gift: account balance, ready to spend once ASOS processes the refund. Other providers below Refund help

Keep proof of postage. If no processing email arrives 14 calendar days after drop-off day, check tracking in My Returns (account) or through your drop-off confirmation email (guest). When the applicable timeframe passes, or the amount looks wrong, contact Customer Care with that proof. The processing email confirms the actual refund; promo-code discounts reduce the refundable amount.

ASOS Refunds by Payment Method

ASOS's refund help sets these destinations:

  • Card: Original card account only; no redirection. A canceled card still routes to its underlying account if open.
  • E-Gift Card: ASOS account balance, ready to spend once credited. Refund help says replacement cards retain the original expiry; US terms separately say US gift vouchers don't expire. Ask Customer Care about a disputed expiry.
  • Mixed payment: Other payment method first, then ASOS balance.
  • Klarna: Invoice adjusted; overpayments refunded within 10 business days.
  • PayPal Pay in 4: Remaining installments adjusted or excess refunded.
  • Afterpay: Invoice updated within 24 hours after processing; any owed refund within 10 business days.

Example: Assume $30 card + $20 E-Gift payment and an approved $40 refund after adjustments. ASOS returns $30 to the card and $10 to account balance. A replacement purchase is a separate transaction.

Can You Exchange an Item at ASOS US?

No. ASOS US requires a return for refund and a new order, according to its US policy. Price matching, retaining discounts, reserved stock and free redelivery aren't published; check the new order's total.

For scarce stock, ordering before the refund arrives means accepting overlapping payments. Generic non-US ASOS exchange wording differs, so don't use it for US orders. Shopping on ASOS's UK site? The UK rules, currency and exchange options differ, so see our ASOS UK returns guide.

Faulty, Damaged or Wrong ASOS Items

ASOS's faulty-item help directs returns within 28 days of delivery or collection availability: select Faulty/Faulty-Broken or Incorrect Item Received. For suspected wrong sizes, check size-conversion labels first.

Fair Use keeps genuine faulty/wrong-item returns free, but false reasons can trigger deductions. Ordinary items in the same parcel can still trigger the parcel deduction: pack faulty items separately.

If creation is blocked, the item is non-returnable or the fault appears after 28 days, contact Customer Care with a photo. No later remedy or outer deadline is published; wear and tear or incorrect care may be refused.

For guests, the terms' $4.95 rule conflicts with Fair Use's free-return wording. If deducted, query it with your photo and order details; the refund email confirms the amount, without a guaranteed waiver.

ASOS's main policy doesn't refund original delivery on unwanted returns. For faulty items, its refund help says delivery charges can be refunded; how this applies to a partial order isn't published. If a faulty-item refund leaves delivery out, use Customer Care's incorrect-refund route.

ASOS.WORLD Points, Tiers and Your Return Rate

Returns reduce ASOS.WORLD points and can lower your tier. The US terms require Icon and A-Lister members to keep return rates below 70%; leaving and rejoining doesn't reset the rate. ASOS publishes no longer return window for any tier or for students.

ASOS Return Policy Mistakes to Avoid

These mistakes can cost money:

  • Checking out as a guest expecting free ordinary returns.
  • Creating a return on day 28 but shipping afterward.
  • Mixing ordinary returns into a faulty-item parcel.
  • Sending partner-shipped goods to ASOS.
  • Assuming keeping exactly $50 clears Fair Use deductions.
  • Expecting original delivery back on unwanted returns.

ASOS publishes no US walk-in route, offers no direct exchanges and gives no outer deadline for later faults. The FTC Cooling-Off Rule excludes entirely online purchases, so it adds no three-day cancellation period here. See how StoreReturners checks retailer policies.

Questions shoppers ask

Can I return to ASOS without a receipt?

ASOS doesn't publish a mandatory paper-receipt or packing-slip requirement. Account shoppers identify purchases through My Orders; guests need their order number and purchase email. Recovery without an order number, bank-statement/ID lookup and gift-recipient returns aren't published. Contact Customer Care if you cannot identify the purchase.

Can I put several ASOS orders in one return parcel?

Account holders can combine eligible orders, but the combining screen only lists prior orders delivered within 14 days. Eligible 14–28-day orders need their own return entry. Guest orders must stay separate. Eligible ASOS-shipped partner goods can share an ASOS parcel; register each parcel separately and follow the shipping-party instructions.

Do I need a printer to return to ASOS?

ASOS offers a QR-code route and names UPS for QR returns, but some methods require a printed label. Available carriers and drop-off points depend on your location and appear during return creation. Check the selected method before packing; a printer-free option isn't guaranteed for every order or location.

What happens if my ASOS return arrives late?

ASOS requires you to create and send the return within 28 days but doesn't publish a warehouse-arrival cutoff. Unwanted returns sent late aren't accepted and may be sent back at your cost. Keep proof of postage and contact Customer Care if an on-time shipment is questioned or creation was blocked.

Does ASOS charge a restocking fee?

The ASOS return policy pages reviewed don't list a separate restocking fee. Published charges include the $4.95 guest deduction, Fair Use parcel deductions and the higher group's handling fee; state sales tax may be added to a deduction. Check account notices and the refund email for the charges applied.
