How Long Do You Have to Return Something to Decathlon?
365 days for eligible members and 30 days for non-members, from purchase, apply to direct purchases. Legal rights are separate. The return-period help confirms these windows.
Decathlon does not define calendar versus business days, whether purchase day counts, or whether a parcel must be registered, posted, scanned or received before expiry. Return early and keep posting proof. If you are comparing sports retailers' return windows, see how Sports Direct handles returns.
Who counts as a Decathlon member for 365-day returns?
Decathlon requires membership linked at purchase for the extended window; a missed till scan does not qualify. Membership is free for qualifying UK residents aged 18 or over; organisations and B2B purchases are excluded.
The membership returns help presents purchase-linked membership as qualifying, while the updated membership terms describe a discretionary benefit potentially requiring separate activation. These pages word it differently. Log in or scan membership, check purchase history, and confirm eligibility with customer service before 30 days pass if relying on 365 days for expensive goods. Joining afterwards does not establish eligibility.
When does the 30 days start for a guest online order?
Decathlon's general policy counts from purchase, but its guest-checkout help counts from receipt. Count from the order date to be safe, and confirm your deadline with customer service.
Is there a Decathlon Christmas return extension for 2026?
Decathlon had not published a Christmas 2026 return extension as of 29 October 2026. Use the normal 365/30-day rules, subject to membership and seller; do not assume January eligibility. Decathlon does not publish gift-receipt or gift-recipient refund rules. Check the returns policy before returning.
How to Return a Decathlon Order
First check who sold the goods (the seller named on the product page or order email, not just the brand) and whether you bought in store or online.
Returning to a Decathlon store
Stores accept direct store and online purchases.
- Use the UK store locator to choose a shop.
- Bring the goods and receipt or membership card used at purchase. Online buyers need their email and GB order number, without a printed invoice.
- Cancel any open online return request before visiting, then request a refund or exchange.
Stores cannot accept Marketplace goods. Decathlon's store-return instructions distinguish the proof requirements.
Returning by post with a Royal Mail label
Direct online buyers can use Decathlon's prepaid Royal Mail route.
- Register the return in My Account > My Purchases > Make a Return: select the items and reason, then validate.
- Create the prepaid Royal Mail label through step 2 of Decathlon's postal help, choosing Decathlon UK as the retailer.
- Print the label free at home, or use the Post Office QR code for free printing.
- Put your name and GB order number (not the GBFF number) inside, post the parcel with the issued label to Decathlon's Northampton warehouse and keep proof of posting.
Returning through ASDA ToYou
Decathlon offers free ASDA ToYou returns for direct online parcels up to 60 × 60 × 90 cm and 25 kg.
- Follow the ASDA return instructions to obtain a label or QR code.
- Put the order number inside the parcel and hand it over through ToYou.
- Keep the ASDA handover receipt.
Guest checkout and app returns
Guest buyers can start through Decathlon's public order-tracking form.
- Enter your email and order number, choose Start Return, supply the reason and validate.
- Use the emailed return label and include the GB order number inside.
- Alternatively, app users select My account > My purchases > Return, following the app-return instructions.
Register every item; a label does not prove warehouse receipt.
Sending several orders or items in one parcel
Combined direct returns need separate registration and enclosed return information for each order. See the online return-registration instructions before packing.
Are Decathlon Returns Free?
The authorised Royal Mail label and ASDA ToYou route are free for direct online returns. Decathlon publishes no universal restocking/admin fee schedule, but retains original delivery charges on ordinary voluntary returns.
The postal help offers prepaid labels; the Terms of Supply instead put cancellation return cost and risk on the shopper. These pages word it differently: use the authorised free label and ask customer service before arranging another method. Reimbursement of self-paid postage and large direct change-of-mind collections are not published. Eligible full statutory cancellation includes standard delivery reimbursement; see legal rights below.
Can You Return to Decathlon Without a Receipt?
Yes, with a supported alternative: the membership card used for a direct store purchase, or email plus GB order number for a direct online return in store. Decathlon's proof-of-purchase instructions support those alternatives; electronic receipts require membership linked at purchase.
Decathlon does not publish payment-card lookup, bank-statement-only or ID-only voluntary returns, or no-proof credit. For faulty-goods claims, GOV.UK's proof guidance allows other evidence such as a bank statement; that does not promise acceptance for change of mind.
Which Items Can't You Return to Decathlon?
Decathlon's voluntary return exclusions cover the following goods or reasons; statutory faulty-goods rights remain separate:
- Personalised goods.
- Food, drink and other perishables.
- Gas canisters and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Misuse, deliberate damage, poor maintenance and normal wear.
Unwanted goods must be unused, clean and in original packaging. Outdoor trials are not promised.
Separate universal tag, accessory and hygiene-seal rules are not published: send everything supplied. Blanket UK clearance/final-sale or underwear exclusions, and gift-card purchase refunds, are unpublished; ask first.
Can you return a bike, a Cycle to Work bike or a Second Life item?
Ordinary postal bike returns require secure packing in the original box. Cycle to Work rules instead prohibit returns during the hire period unless there is a warranty issue; contact the online team or store. Bike buyers comparing retailers can read Halfords' returns policy.
Decathlon's Second Life page gives members 365 days in its benefits section, but its returns FAQ gives 30 days without a membership qualifier. Treat 30 days as the deadline unless customer service confirms otherwise for your order. How unused/original-packaging conditions apply to pre-owned goods is not published; confirm condition requirements before returning.
How Long Do Decathlon Refunds Take?
Decathlon's main policy says refunds arrive within 12 business days of warehouse receipt; its refund help instead gives cards 3–5 business days and PayPal 48 hours, without stating their start events. These pages word it differently: do not add the clocks together or rely on the shortest.
| Stage | Direct Decathlon goods | Marketplace goods |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Return window | Eligible members 365 days; non-members 30; guest start wording differs | 30 days; universal start and deadline milestone not published |
| 2. Retailer processing | Confirmation email within 2 business days of warehouse receipt | Up to 10 working days; receipt/inspection trigger wording differs |
| 3. Money arriving | Main policy: within 12 business days of warehouse receipt. Help: card 3–5 business days / PayPal 48 hours, start not published. Separate bank posting: Not published | Separate bank/provider posting: Not published |
If no refund has arrived 12 business days after the warehouse received your parcel, contact the Help Centre with the order number and your tracking or proof of posting. The confirmation email shows receipt has happened; if the receipt date is unclear, ask customer service to confirm it.
| Payment/route | Refund destination |
|---|---|
| Card | Same card |
| PayPal | PayPal |
| Online gift-card payment | New emailed gift card |
| Klarna | Remaining payments cancelled; amounts taken refunded through Klarna |
| Store refund | Original method, including cash or gift-card balance where applicable |
An online order paid at a store till goes to the finance team and may take longer; no timing is published. Bank-arrival timing for store refunds is not published.
Gift cards, split payments, Klarna and membership points
Decathlon refunds the gift-card share first, then the card share. The main policy's split-payment wording gives 7 business days for the non-gift-card remainder, alongside the differing estimates above.
Example: Assume £55 of direct Decathlon goods, paid with a £20 gift card and £35 debit card, is accepted for a full refund without deductions. Decathlon's payment-method rules return £20 as a new emailed gift card first, then £35 to the debit card; no separate bank-arrival date is published.
Refunds remove the related membership points, and Decathlon does not confirm how long the emailed gift card lasts; the FAQ below covers both.
Can You Exchange an Item at Decathlon?
Direct exchanges happen only in Decathlon stores. Online/postal returns are refunds: return and reorder. The store-return help describes exchanges; fees, price-difference rules and Marketplace exchanges are not published. For a faulty item, use the faulty-goods route below instead of an exchange.
Returning a Decathlon Marketplace Order
Marketplace partner goods have a 30-day voluntary policy, with seller-specific conditions, and cannot return to Decathlon stores—even when store staff placed the order. The Marketplace policy help says all sellers now provide free returns through their authorised arrangements.
Start in Purchases > Return Request or guest order tracking, following the Marketplace return process. Standard parcels must be unused, in original packaging, under 20 kg and smaller than 61 × 46 × 46 cm. Check seller terms via the seller name on the product page or post-purchase email: original-delivery refunds depend on those terms and the reason. Universal start, counting and deadline milestones are unpublished; ask the seller and post early.
The Marketplace refund guidance gives up to 10 working days after receipt and inspection, but also describes receipt, inspection and processing together within 10 working days. Count from seller receipt for follow-up purposes and contact Marketplace customer service after 10 working days to confirm timing. For faulty, wrong or over-30-day cases, contact that team immediately with seller/order details; late acceptance is not guaranteed.
For another outdoor retailer that also sells partner goods, see Mountain Warehouse's returns policy.
Large or heavy Marketplace items
For goods over 20 kg or over 61 cm, do not post: contact Marketplace customer service through the Help Centre with order number and seller. The seller arranges working-day collection without a guaranteed time. Disassemble and box safely. Exact 20 kg/size boundaries are not published, so ask first.
Faulty Decathlon Products, Warranties and Your Legal Rights
For faulty direct goods, Decathlon requests store assessment or customer-service contact with photos/videos. Its manufacturing-fault policy offers a full refund within 30 days of purchase with proof; afterwards, repair, then exchange if repair fails, then refund if no equivalent exists.
This guide is based on Decathlon's published UK pages, which cannot show your own order's account screens or an individual Marketplace seller's terms (see how StoreReturners checks official policies). Decathlon's assessment, the product's terms and your legal rights decide the remedy. Follow the faulty-goods help before sending goods.
What if your online order arrived damaged or defective?
Send customer service photos and the order number, stating whether you prefer a refund or resend. The defective-delivery instructions offer free Royal Mail/ASDA labels below 5 kg; larger items can have weekday collection and need disassembling and packing. Exactly 5 kg is not addressed: ask first. Customer service decides the solution.
Domyos fitness machines
Start with Decathlon Technical Support. The Domyos help directs unrepairable cases to Customer Loyalty for refund/possible replacement; DCUK order-number goods retain warranty cover but cannot be replaced. No-spares cases may be refunded.
Does your legal right end when the Decathlon warranty does?
No: statutory rights can survive warranty expiry. The faulty-goods help says no exchange/refund outside warranty, while membership terms, supply terms and GOV.UK guidance preserve legal rights. Ask customer service to assess a legal claim separately from warranty service.
Decathlon's main returns policy broadly describes two-year own-brand/one-year other-brand warranties; its warranty page specifies members and membership terms say eligible products. Non-member eligibility is unclear. Link membership at purchase, keep proof and confirm product cover with customer service.
| Advertised member warranty | Eligible goods; product terms apply |
|---|---|
| 1 year | Partner brands sold by Decathlon |
| 2 years | Decathlon own brands |
| 5 years | Eligible fitness machines, inflatable tents, carbon frames |
| 10 years | Specified backpacks and tables |
| Limited lifetime | Eligible metal bike components; purchase recorded on membership or registered within one month; original owner only, not second-hand purchases |
Decathlon's warranty page starts two-year cover at purchase; the updated membership terms instead say purchase or later delivery. Treat the purchase date as the start and ask customer service to confirm your product's warranty dates. Second Life goods retain their statutory rights.
Warranty periods are not return windows. Sale goods retain statutory rights; for repair/replacement, faults arising within six months generally place the evidential burden on the retailer, while later proof may fall to the shopper. This does not guarantee a six-month refund.
Your rights under UK consumer law
UK law generally gives no change-of-mind refund right for ordinary in-store purchases; Decathlon's voluntary offer is additional. For eligible online purchases, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give 14 days after receipt to notify cancellation, then 14 days after notification to dispatch or hand over goods, unless the trader collects.
Eligible full cancellation includes standard delivery, not the premium upgrade. Unless collecting, the trader must reimburse within 14 days after receiving goods or earlier proof of dispatch, using the same payment means unless expressly agreed otherwise. For collection, normally 14 days after cancellation notice. Shop-like inspection is allowed; excessive handling can reduce reimbursement. Return costs fall to you unless the trader agreed to pay or failed to disclose them; exclusions can include personalised, perishable and unsealed hygiene goods.
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 normally provides a 30-day short-term right to reject faulty goods, starting after possession/delivery and any required installation conditions are met. Repair or replacement must be at seller cost, within reasonable time and without significant inconvenience, subject to impossibility/disproportionate cost. Failed or unavailable remedies, delay or inconvenience can lead to price reduction or final rejection; later deductions for use may apply.
Qualifying rejection refunds are due within 14 days of agreed entitlement, through original means unless agreed otherwise, without a fee. The trader pays reasonable return costs, except personal return costs to where possession was taken. Consult GOV.UK's returns guidance or Citizens Advice's England faulty-goods guidance, which links nation-specific advice, when deciding which remedy to request.
Decathlon Return Policy Mistakes That Cost Shoppers Money
- Missing the membership scan: that purchase does not qualify for 365 days.
- Taking Marketplace goods to a store: shops cannot accept them, including staff-assisted orders.
- Requesting a postal exchange: direct exchanges require a store; otherwise return and reorder.
- Buying your own postage: Decathlon's Royal Mail and ASDA labels are free for direct online orders, and it does not publish reimbursement of postage you pay yourself.
- Omitting the GB number or using GBFF: the parcel lacks the requested order reference.
- Chasing a refund too early: the main policy's 12-business-day estimate starts at warehouse receipt. Use tracking to establish that date; if unclear, ask customer service to confirm it.
Compare more UK store return guides when choosing where to buy; the Decathlon return policy requires checking seller, membership and route.
Questions shoppers ask
Can I return Decathlon gear I've used outdoors?
Decathlon requires unwanted goods to be unused, clean and in original packaging. Handling needed for inspection is allowed, but an outdoor trial is not promised, and Decathlon can refuse a return. If the gear failed, follow the faulty-goods route. For used, working gear, check Decathlon's Buy Back trade-in: a separate offer made after store inspection, not a refund.
Do I lose my membership points when I return something?
Yes. Decathlon removes points corresponding to the refunded amount, including on a partial refund, under its membership programme terms. The adjustment can leave a negative points balance. Check the points associated with the refunded purchase rather than assuming that previously credited points remain yours after the refund.
Can I return a Decathlon item bought in another country?
Decathlon's UK sources do not publish general acceptance of foreign purchases or overseas returns of UK purchases. Ask customer service before travelling or posting, with the purchase country and order or receipt details. The UK policy alone does not establish cross-border eligibility or a shared international return route.
Can I use an ASDA label for a Marketplace parcel?
Decathlon describes ASDA ToYou for its direct online orders; Marketplace goods use the seller's authorised route. Start through Purchases > Return Request or guest order tracking and follow the seller's instructions. Do not apply ASDA's parcel allowance to partner goods or assume an ASDA label is valid for that seller.
How long is a Decathlon return card valid?
Decathlon's card-validity help says return cards last one year, while ordinary gift cards last two years from activation. For Decathlon return policy refunds, the help does not clarify whether a new emailed gift card counts as a return card. Check its stated expiry rather than assuming the longer period.
